The Arleigh Burke class of guided missile destroyers (DDGs) is a United States Navy class of destroyer built around the Aegis Combat System and the SPY-1D multi-function passive electronically scanned array radar. The class is named for Admiral Arleigh Burke, an American destroyer officer in World War II, and later Chief of Naval Operations. The lead ship, USS Arleigh Burke, was commissioned during Admiral Burke's lifetime. These warships were designed as multi-mission destroyers, able to fulfill the strategic land strike role with Tomahawk missiles; anti-aircraft warfare (AAW) role with powerful Aegis radar and surface-to-air missiles; anti-submarine warfare (ASW) with towed sonar array, anti-submarine rockets, and ASW helicopter; and anti-surface warfare (ASuW) with Harpoon missile launcher. With upgrades to their AN/SPY-1 phased radar systems and their associated missile payloads as part of the Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense System, the ships of this class have also begun to demonstrate some promise as mobile anti-ballistic missile and anti-satellite weaponry platforms, operating on 15 ships as of March 2009. Some versions of the class no longer have the towed sonar, or Harpoon missile launcher. Their hull and superstructure were designed to have a reduced radar cross-section.
The Arleigh Burke class destroyer
is one
of the most powerful destroyers in the world to date. The
weight and firepower
exceeds that of many cruisers.
Named after the
most famous destroyer officer of the World War II era, the
US Admiral
Arleigh Burke Burke class is equipped with
"Aegis". Combat Systems
and AN/SPY-1
3D Phased Array Radar
Primary mission requirements for
air defense operations of coordinated ship battle groups
First Arleigh Burke-class destroyer
commissioned July 4, 1991
to replace Spruance-class destroyer After Gu Sheng
, ships of the same class joined the U.S. Navy
to replace other older destroyer classes
and became the only active destroyer class in operation in the U.S. Navy from September 21,
2005 to May 20, 2016.
This type of destroyer was designed For multi-purpose destroyers
for air defense operations they have a powerful
Aegis combat system and standard series of anti-air missiles and
anti-submarine towed sonar torpedoes
RUM-139 Asrock anti-submarine missiles
and anti-submarine helicopters
Surface warfare has Harpoon missiles
and RIM-174 standard The six-type missile
SM-6 ERAM
can be equipped with Tomahawk cruise missiles
for ground strikes. The
US Navy originally planned to build
32 Juwart-class destroyers to
replace the Arleigh Burke-class
but only 3 were built
to replace the Ticonderoga. The
19 next-generation cruisers of the CG(X) class of cruisers were
also suspended by the US Congress. The
US Navy had no choice but to
restart the production line of
the Arleigh Burke-class, making the Burke-class the largest number of ships built by the US Navy
after World War II.
The
Burke-class combat ships have about
75% of the air defense capabilities of the Ticonderoga class. The
US Navy has
installed the Mk 41 vertical launch system longitudinally on the Burke-class
to launch SM-2 MR missiles
and Tomahawk cruise missiles,
but the Mk in the bow The 41 vertical launch system
only installs four sets of 8 launch modules
instead of the eight sets of the Ticonderoga class,
so the number of vertical launch ports
has also been
reduced from 122 of the Ticonderoga class to 90
because it pays more attention to air defense. The
Burke class is inferior to the Ticonderoga class in terms of maintaining anti-submarine capabilities. The
Burke class breaks the traditional
hull and is made of steel.
The traditional steel bottom
and aluminum upper part
are not used, but there are still aluminum masts, etc.
The reason why all parts are made of steel in order to reduce the weight
is that
the aluminum upper half was completely destroyed by the fire of the cruiser Belknap in 1975,
and the decision to make all steel was made by observing the
report of damage to the British warship in the Falklands War.
1979 Defence The scientific committee
put forward a research report on the weaknesses of warships, which
greatly affects the design of the Burke-class ships. The
Burke-class pays special attention to passive defense.
In addition to the hulls mostly made of steel materials, the
important parts also use
nearly 130 tons of Kevler armor,
which is based on stealth. Technical considerations
Burke-class ships are all inclined at the structural plane
and try to make the edge of the hull as smooth as possible.
Burke-class is also equipped with
nuclear, biological and chemical air filters to protect the
hull. The hull is designed to have an airtight effect.
The battle situation center of
the nuclear, biological and chemical pollution ship is set in the center of the hull
and surrounded by many passages
, which is different from the habit of the US Navy in the past.
The Burke class divides tactical
data into various compartments for processing. For
example, the sonar room is located in front of the battle situation center.
To avoid the Burke class
being incapacitated by an enemy strike
According to sources, the
US Department of Defense plans to extend the life of the Burke class
by 45 years. Based on
the time of the Burke class's first service in 1991,
this will make the Burke class. Delayed start of retirement
to around 2036
