Looking for an addictive fall side dish?
I've got your new favorite way to enjoy Brussels sprouts.
Yes, you heard that right.
I actually enjoy Brussels sprouts thanks to the air fryer.
Hey guys, welcome back to my channel.
It's Taylor from The Girl on Bloor.
I'm all about showing you how to make easy,
healthy recipes that you can live your best life.
Now part of living your best life
inevitably involves eating your greens,
but don't worry because I've got you covered
with an incredibly delicious way to cook Brussels sprouts.
If you hated them as a kid,
I swear you'll be a Brussels sprouts convert
after you try these perfectly crispy ones.
The air fryer is no joke, you guys.
I swear it can make anything taste delicious.
These tasty sprouts are gonna become
your next go-to fall side.
And let's not forget my glorious honey balsamic sauce
that just adds that extra pop of flavor.
It's what makes these Brussels sprouts so amazing.
They're gonna become your new secret weapon
when it comes time to bring healthy holiday sides
to your next Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner.
But you definitely don't need an excuse like the holidays
to make these on the regular.
I swear you'll find excuses to whip them up
just about any time of the year,
but you'll especially crave them
when all fall eats are king.
Ready to learn how to make them?
Let's get started.
So first things first,
you'll want to thoroughly wash your Brussels sprouts
to get rid of any dirt.
Soak four cups of them in a large bowl of warm water
and then shake them around a bit to get them squeaky clean.
You can let them soak for up to 10 or 15 minutes
while you get the rest of the recipe going.
From here, you'll get out your olive oil,
salt and pepper, balsamic vinegar, honey, garlic,
and Parmesan cheese,
grating about a quarter cup of your parm.
Just a heads up,
if you want to make this recipe vegetarian,
then I recommend switching to a different cheese
or finding a vegetarian Parmesan
because parm on its own is not vegetarian.
Little fact I learned recently.
You don't even really need the rest of the seasonings.
Just the oil and salt and pepper will do the trick,
but I really do like to up the ante with a simple sauce
and you should have these pantry staples on hand anyway,
so why not take your sprouts to the next level
if you have everything already?
Now, before we go any further, let's preheat our air fryer.
You'll want to preheat to 400 degrees for 10 minutes
just to get it nice and hot before you add your sprouts.
The air fryer I use is the Philips XXL.
I've linked to it in the description of this video
if you want to check it out.
This is one of the largest air fryers you can get
and it's perfect for families
as it'll cook up a whole bunch of food in one go.
No need to do two batches of a recipe.
It's large as heck though,
so if you don't think you'll be using your air fryer
very often or if you've got a very small kitchen
or want to spend a little less dough on one,
I do recommend getting a smaller regular sized air fryer.
I do love having an air fryer though
because it helps you avoid heating up your house
and running up your hydro bill.
So it's not just some trendy appliance you won't ever use,
it's definitely a better alternative to the oven
and of course, no need for a deep fryer either.
I personally find that the air fryer is just better
at getting certain foods crispier than the oven
or a frying pan, such as wings, cauliflower,
Brussels sprouts, chicken nuggets, et cetera, et cetera.
Really, any veggie tastes better after it's been air fried,
so maybe that's another important point that we'll come into.
I've also linked to my air fryer archives
in the description of this video
in case you're considering getting one.
Okay, okay, I've ranted enough about the love I have
for my air fryer, getting back to the recipe.
Once your Brussels sprouts are nice and clean
and soaked through, drain and rinse them,
then cut the ends off with a sharp knife.
From here, you'll slice them in half.
Now, if you have large Brussels sprouts,
you may want to cut them in half again
just to ensure that they get extra crispy,
but the ones I'm using today are on the smaller side,
so one cut in half will do.
From here, you'll want to add your Brussels sprouts
to a large bowl along with one tablespoon of olive oil
and half a teaspoon each of salt and pepper.
Toss to combine, and then add your Brussels sprouts
to the air fryer, cooking for seven minutes.
When the cook time is up, remove and shake the basket
or toss your Brussels sprouts
so that they start to get an even fry,
then air fry for another seven minutes.
Once they've cooked that extra seven minutes,
now you'll add your seasoning.
This is totally optional,
but I love spicing my Brussels sprouts up,
and you really can do this in multiple different ways.
Feel free to experiment with different flavors.
They would be amazing tossed in some buffalo wing sauce,
dry ranch seasoning, with some fresh herbs
such as lemon and rosemary,
or with some store-bought stir fry sauce.
Seriously, there are so many ways to do these,
it's not funny.
I'm going to make a balsamic sauce,
so when you remove your Brussels sprouts a second time,
you'll want to add in one tablespoon of balsamic vinegar,
one tablespoon of honey, and two cloves of minced garlic.
Toss them all up, and then air fry one last time
for two minutes just to get the garlic cooked through
and to allow the sauce to thicken
over the crispy Brussels sprouts.
Now you are pretty much ready to serve and enjoy.
I like to toss with a little bit of Parmesan cheese
for more flavor,
so add your crispy Brussels sprouts to a bowl,
and then either sprinkle the sprouts with cheese
or toss them with the cheese to coat.
Voila, the most perfect Brussels sprouts in the world.
Yeah, I'm that confident.
They are so perfect for your next holiday potluck.
This will be the dish to impress for sure.
Now, they are best when served fresh,
but you can make them in advance
and then revive them by either air frying
another five minutes at 400 degrees,
or you can broil them on a parchment lined baking sheet
in the oven for a few minutes to make them crispy again,
so you can make them ahead
and then bring them somewhere like a holiday party
or what have you.
If you know you're going to make them in advance,
I recommend leaving the cheese off
and then tossing your Brussels sprouts fresh
with fresh cheese if possible.
This is the most quintessential fall side dish.
I even guarantee you that any picky eaters
will love these Brussels sprouts too.
Who knows, maybe you'll even convert your kids.
Serve them alongside your favorite holiday sides
and proteins and store any leftovers,
ha, yeah, right, in the fridge for up to three days.
