I'm Richard Patterson, Master Distiller of the Dalmore Distillery.
Although our distillery goes back to 1839, our actual roots go much further.
Because it was in 1263, after the Battle of Largs, that King Alexander was out hunting.
A stag was just about to attack him when Colonel Chieftain of the Clan Mackenzie steps forward
and bravely saves the king.
The king, in gratitude, awards the emblem of the stag, which is allowed for the Mackenzie family.
When Andrew Mackenzie joined the distillery in 1867, he wanted to remember that legend.
And therefore, it appears on every bottle to this day.
Now let's taste it.
First of all, you need the right glass.
This is the Copa Capita glass.
This is the Blender's glass.
So hold it properly.
Pour a generous measure into the glass.
Keep your hand away from the glass.
Hold it at the bottom.
Swirl it around.
One.
Nose it.
Slowly.
Go back to it again.
Really get into the whisky.
Discover what it's trying to tell you.
Then, three.
Taste it.
But give it time.
First on the top of the tongue, then underneath the tongue, and then back in the middle.
The longer you keep it in the mouth, the more you extract these lovely flavours.
This is 70% Oloroso Sherry Butts, 20% American White Oak, and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon,
to give it that extra charm.
A multitude of exotic flavours, and at 44%, it really holds in these flavours.
Marmalade, spice, honey, vanilla, and that lovely smell of tangerine towards the end.
A perfect combination for drinking and enjoying with a cigar.
