crafty friends Happy eve of almost said eve of Christmas Eve I wish it was Christmas it is the eve of Thanksgiving how are we doing today hello hello hello the maker is going to learn friends I am so excited to be here with you today because first of all if you got the email I read it they thought Alicia and Lauren were going do the show today it's me it's a solo episode episode so we're hanging out just me and you today it's going to be so much fun so glad to see you all oh my goodness I did not put comments like I normally do on my computer so I'm going to pull them up on my phone so I don't have to look all the way over there um but we're so excited to be with you today it is going to be so much fun do you want to see what we're making today oh my goodness y'all this is from the Dollar Tree this is from the Dollar Tree what in the world this is from the Dollar Tree Dollar Dollar Tree $5 section um it's beautiful it's beautiful so we're going to be talking about foil today this is something that we don't use a lot of here at makers going to learn so when we do use it we really want to you know kind of share with you and talk to you guys about it so look at how good the foil looks by the way like it is beautiful the light right above me like definitely is showing it off so this is super fun this is a polyester um project or a polyester pillow rather um so it's going to be a lot a lot of fun to go through and I'm going to teach you exactly what we did to design this and have this you know be created and one thing I just want to double triple check as well is that in the description down below that you can get access to the proper files so we've linked both of the fonts that we're using today I'm going to teach you a really fun hack with this an um Angelica font so this one and then The Artsy Amy font is this one right here so I'll teach you how to do that and then we're using the winter floral frame from maker going to learn so we're literally just Dison space this is what we're working with today my friends so first of all let me share with you Dison space so let me share with you this is what we're going end up making together is this right here all right oops is this right here beautiful the Anderson family this is what we're going to end up making together together um and just bringing bringing all together everything like that um this is what it's going to look like now how we're going to get there is going to be really fun because if you saw that text box what I wanted to show you so I going to bring it over here we're going to teach you how to take this font that is textured and how to simplify it all right have to go ahead and simplify it Carrie says Tanner I had a dream last night that I guessed what the big reveal was tomorrow in my dream you were offering Custom Design services on Fiverr Carrie honey when I start doing that you got to get concerned because I'm not a graphic artist I would have to have a team to do that that is so funny I love it I love it Carol's at the campground so fun hey Carol all right so let's go ahead and talk about how're we go simplify this font that can be like step one cuz that's part of the training and it's really really really good so I love that um so what we're going to do and what we're going to do is top out Andrew properly so Andrew and they just like totally or Andrews so we could do Andrews and we have it proper right here look we'll fix it so this is when you use the font all right so when you use the font you're going to see that it's really textured so it's super simple to fix this so if you ever have like something you want to simplify something that you're like oh I don't know anything like that what you're going to do is you're going to weld it all right so I just want you to go over here to combined in the bottom right and I want you to go to weld all right so you're just welding this layer and it's not going to change the look of the layer so you're like Tanner what did you just do well when you weld it you are now able to Contour it you cannot Contour a font all right you cannot Contour a font it's just not possible so what you'll want to do is Click Contour after you've welded and I just like to click hide all Contour but then what you need to do is just kind of go back and click on the things you actually do want all right so the a we want the in we want the inner piece we want the r we want the ew want the inner piece we want the S that's all we want you see so if we had all Contour it like pretty much all goes away except the a but we want you know all the letters in the inner pieces so you just have to click on it and bring it back notice we didn't bring back all these little these little gadgets and like little dots if you try to let your cricet cut that out y'all it will mess up okay it would totally be a crap fill so now click X and look we have Andrews yay super fun so the next thing that we're going to do is just grab another text box all right and this one is Artsy Amy all right we're going to use artsy Amy so just search for that I'm just searching for artsy I've already downloaded the font if you've never downloaded a font for maker is going to learn it literally takes two seconds so it's super simple um another quick hack we not hack this is just a quick tip I love when I used to be able to like double click on the font and like the text box would automatically pop up it doesn't do that anymore so you have to like move your box over like notice how this can just move around wherever you want and then here's your box so beautiful so we're going top in the and then we can position it here the and then we can just come over here to duplicate and oops what should I do so we're just come right here and we're going to click duplicate beautiful oh I ungrouped that's what I did I'm just go undo this I clicked the wrong button so funny so under the I clicked ungroup but I meant to click duplicate okay so duplicates the second button if you're looking over at the over like the middle right here going duplicate it and then we can top in family beautiful so the Andrews family super simple love that love it love it love it and then one thing I wanted to just talk about is you want to make sure to measure you're going to make sure to measure your actual um design and your like pillow so if you're just tuning in with us this is a pillow from uh the $5 section and you just kind of want to measure and be like okay how much room do I have like okay I have you know 12 or 11 by 11 that's pretty much what we designed this to be so 11 by 11 to fit on here and that's what you're going to do when you bring in your file all right so one thing I love about makers going to learn files is that once you've uploaded it once you never have to re-upload it so I've already uploaded this once so we can search winter floral and boom look at this winter floral add to cannabis view so easy right and it's really large so we're just going to size this down to 11 by 11 pretty much how about that looks so cool I'm going grab the Andrews family kill it down and then I'm going to zoom in so we can all train together beautiful so now we can just scale this down start seeing how this looks right here it's beautiful the Andrews family look at this now this design this floral the tip is go bigger than you think all right just cuz it's going to be something you're going to weed a lot um and you just want to be careful and I'll have some tips for when you weed it okay so when you're happy you need to just go ahead select all and you can do two things since we're not making this a permanent you know we're not making this permanent I would not weld it but I'm going to attach it all right so just click on attach and boom it's now attached how about that so good the pillow Brenda looks so good we love love love the pillow so it's 11 by 10 we have used the um artsy Amy font for the family the Andrews is the Angelica um or Angelina sorry I've been calling it Angelica it's Angelina font which is Andrews and then we're just using that winter floral frame which is so fun so it's Saed it's ready to go you would cut this out using the um floral or excuse me the foil setting at Cricut all right so that's the setting you would use you would want to make sure to take care of that and make sure to do it appropriately for the r um setting that's just my only tip here do not do not do not do not um just cut this on everyday heat transfer vinyl all right please do not do that you must must must must select that it is for a foil so that it cuts with enough thickness or enough pressure all right so here's the one that I've already had we cut and weeded so this is it look at how beautiful and we just want to talk about some tips for when you're weeding this particular design okay so this particular design you are going to want to weed and instead of weeding this way you are going to weed all of these this way like you're going to weed towards you again be sure to not weed going in you want to pull out because all these things are really delicate all these are really detailed right can you tell so if we were to peel it this way it is no longer going to stay down on the adhesive right because this is just like a little attack but if you peel against it's going to stay put and you're pel up the r pieces so that was the number one tip when weeding this cutting it does take a while so if you're going to do this just know it's not something we can cut on a live stream like it's going to take probably 10 minutes or so to kind of cut through all right and notice that the larger you make it the easier you're making your actual weeding or anything like that so now let's grab our pillow and you can see we have this beautiful one and it's again 100% polyester right so when we have 100% polyester and if you're not a maker's going learn member or if you even if you are go and download you your reference guide off of the website it is under the um resource library and you can just get the Cricut reference guide okay so head over here to the easy press heat settings and then guess what you're going to want to do 100% polyester and then you want to find your material so right here you have foil heat transfer vonal and if you're using the mini easy press it says to use level two all right so level two so let that warm up but again this reference guide you get a digital copy when you become a member we have all of our functions we explain these to you it's a huge huge huge huge benefit so you can learn about exclude weld offset Contour which one to use when we kind of go in great great details so that you're able to kind of understand how that works and there's so many other good things just to be aware of our terminology is really good as well so anyway that's the reference guide you can download your free copy when you are a member all right so what we're going to do now is while that's warming up we're just go pick this up right here and we're going to lay it down and we're just go Center it up now I can't I'm going to have to hold it up a little bit I recommend just making sure you hold it up so that you are positioning it cuz like I even I couldn't tell like how it looks just looking over it and I know the camera was really close so this is kind of what you want to do like just hold it in your lap apply pressure and then just make sure it looks good that's one of my best tips for making making double sure that it's going on the proper way all right so let me go over here and I just want to read to you what it recommends so it just turned on we're going to do level two and it's medium pressure for 25 seconds give or take okay just want to make sure if there's any questions let me know I just want to show you how easy it is to use the foil like it is not hard at all all so we have level two and then we're just going to start just applying this down I'm going to start in the middle and kind of work my way out that's my idea the mini easy press right here is the only one that you can move around like I am doing you would normally have to apply firm pressure and then move it but this mini easy press is the only approved one for moving around okay so how many of you are ready for the Black Friday event foil heat transfer vyl yes you always always always mirror any heat transfer vyl there's a few printable ones that you wouldn't do that to but if it has transfer tape of course of course of course of course and notice I'm just taking my time with a pillow that's already stuffed I will tell you it takes longer and it's a more complex process just cuz you can't heat it with the firm pressure because when you push down you're like oh doesn't do the same thing as you want it to and you might just want to let it like set for a second before you start peeling all right love it love it love it yes Tara let's Skip and jump to Friday I love it love it so so fun so I'm just going through making sure we like let this cool you can see like these letters in the Middle look really down really well just these smaller pieces are your more complex ones all right let me know if you guys have any questions this is such a super super easy project does heat transfer foil come in various colors yes yes yes yes yes we love it how do you know the heat transfer vinyl has completely sealed to the pillow so Connie you can see like it's a new texture cuz it's the adhes it's adhered so with these smaller lines it's harder to tell I just like to kind of test them and see how they do and you'll just start seeing like when you start seeing bubbles on your heat transfer VL on the transfer sheet that's kind of how you know it's transferred which is pretty awesome and again because this is a pre-stuffed pillow it definitely takes more time love it so we're just going to go up here and work on this as wanting to stay on the transfer than you would think does that make sense so uh what you're going to want to do is you're going to see that um this right here is wanting to kind of um like not it normally like regular heat transfer vinyl never really stays stuck on here but even though it's adhered which you can tell from like I said the bubbling it just has a little bit more of uh it like still wants to stay stuck to this so you just want to be careful when it comes to that and then if there's ever an area which there's like looks to be like one area right here I can just leave this here and I can just hit it again for a couple of seconds so it's super super super fun Patricia I'm so sorry you're sick oh no oh no oh no oh no that is so so fun so you can see this right here and look at this we did it y'all this was probably I mean obviously we pre um we pre-cut and weeded this so if we didn't pre-cut and weed it we would be here a long time be here a very long time take it takes a while to do this project but we just love having like an awesome Christmas like idea because then you can put it on the um you know on the couch or anything like that to have that handmade
