In this video you will learn how to create a simple reflection on a coordinate plane.

In this video I would like to talk about reflection on a coordinate plane.
A reflection is when an object is moved across the
line of axis. It is like a mirror image, and the axis is the line of symmetry.
Steps for setting up a reflection
1st Identify each ordered pair.
2nd Identify which axis you are reflecting over.
If you reflect across the x axis, the y coordinate changes!
If you reflect across the y axis, the x coordinate changes!
3rd Look at the ordered pairs and determine which number will become its opposite and which one stays the same.
4th Plot the new ordered pairs
5th Connect the points to create a REFLECTION or Mirror IMAGE.
Let’s look at an example of creating a reflection.
Let’s set up this first reflection and I already have the shape drawn in.
The coordinates are 2,-1 4,-1 5 -4, 1 -4 and I'm going to reflect over the x axis.
Therefore the x axis will stay the same and the y axis will change.
I will rewrite the coordinates and then we will plot them.
Since we are reflecting over the x it will remain the same so we will have 2,4 4 1 1 4 and 5 4
Now all I have to do is plot the numbers.
I will go 2 positive 1 the x is always first.
Then 4 positive 1
Then 1, 4, and finally 5 4 and then connect the dots.
You will see a nice reflection.
This is reflecting over the x, x stays the same and y changes.
Now what if we switch it up and reflect across the y axis?
We have a simple reflection.
We have 1, 2 and this time the y stays the same.
-1, 2, and then -1 and 4, and finally -3 and 3
Now we will graph these so now we have negative 1 and 2
Negative 1 and 4, and negative 3 and 3
I will connect the dots and you will see it is a reflection of that shape.
I'm reflecting over the y and the y coordinates stay the same, and the x coordinates change, and here is a reflection on the coordinate plane.
