3 Days WILD CAMPING & HIKING In the Lake District

So in today's video I'm going to spend three days wild camping and hiking
in the Lake District with none other than Bushman and Blue.
Just look at that sunset, it's so pretty.
All right, let's get going.
Yeah!
Al organized everything for this adventure,
so I started off with pretty much no knowledge of where we were hiking
and sleeping for the two nights and three days that we were away,
which made for a really exciting adventure.
This trip is also the first time I've been in the Lake District
when it wasn't surrounded by clouds,
so it genuinely felt like it was the first time I'd ever experienced these insane landscapes.
We're making slow and steady progress, getting up the hill pretty well.
Proper sweating, but it's going to be worth it.
It's going to be an epic adventure, I can just tell.
It's so good to be outside, it's so good to be in the fresh air again.
It's going to be windy at the top, mate.
What a day though, look at that.
How clear that is.
Yeah, it's nuts.
It's beautiful here, man.
Super beautiful out here.
The weather's a bit so-so, it's quite windy,
but I think we're going to be able to get through it.
As you can tell, my backpack's a bit heavier than usual,
that's because I've packed for all three days of the trip.
I've got enough food for three days
and we're going to sample some water on the mountain as well.
Al said that we can use his water pump, which is going to be a new experience for me too.
So lucky to be out here, we're so lucky that this is in the UK.
Yeah, I'm having a really good time.
My favourite thing about this area is that you can only get here by foot.
There's no backed up motorways or huge car parks that spoil the views.
It is completely wild.
And the only people you meet here are other hikers,
campers and outdoor enthusiasts like us.
It's an amazing place where you can just escape to
and fully switch off your brain from everyday stresses.
We're on Scarfell now.
Is it Scarfell now or is it Scarfell Pike?
All right, so you may have noticed that I'm doing a bit more voiceover than normal.
That's because my GoPro decided to die on this trip,
which as I'm sure you can imagine was insanely frustrating as I got home.
But I've still got a banging video for you.
I've managed to save a lot of the audio, but a lot of it's also lost.
So do expect to hear a lot of me in this video.
I hope you enjoy.
Nothing like it.
Let's get out of the wind, eh?
You've got to hold the handle.
So we're just filtering some water now from a source
that Al spotted last time he was here.
And yeah, it's going to be for dinner tonight.
Can't lie, I'm getting hungry now.
I'm looking forward to cooking up something.
But this is going to be my first time using a water filter.
This Sawyer Squeeze water filter is an amazing piece of kit.
You can use it in loads of different situations.
We sampled water from, you know, beginning sources like these,
but we also got it from running rivers and even tans or pools
that you find in mountain locations like these.
I'm definitely going to buy one myself ASAP.
Simple, eh?
Slow, hey?
Lord's Rake.
And that is that gully section there.
Okay, that looks steep.
And then from that point, we're going to flip left.
Yes.
And go up through the sort of crags.
Brilliant.
That's called the West Wall Traverse, I think.
Okay.
So yeah, it's good scrabble.
Yeah, it's going to be hard.
So the following is a great example of how difficult routes
can sometimes give you the best views.
All right, I'm just taking it slow.
You just have to work a little bit harder for them.
This is pretty special, isn't it?
This is great.
He does moments have a lot of pain sometimes.
Yeah.
It's going to be a lot of scrambling,
but we're going to just get stuck in,
go really slow and just, you know, take it one foot at a time.
I feel really confident with Al here.
He's done this loads of times.
And this feels a little bit resonant on the bottom.
So obviously this part is a little bit sketchy.
You have a lot of loose rocks and a huge incline,
but our best strategy was just to go super slow,
take our time and let each other know which side we were walking up.
We would deliberately stay on different sides
or at least closely behind each other
so that if a rock did get loose and full,
it wouldn't hit either one of us.
I think this section would be a lot harder in big groups.
So I'd only recommend doing it if you're a duo or a trio like us.
So we've just completed that section.
We're now off onto a secret path up to the top of our next mountain.
These scrambling sections, you've got to be super careful in them,
but the risk is worth the reward sometimes.
We're making really good time.
Really enjoying ourselves.
We're now heading up another secret path up to the top of Scarfell.
And yeah, we're going to pitch a tent up there,
have a couple of beers, cook some dinner
and just have a lovely evening.
I think we deserve it after all this.
He's a legend, complete legend.
Good on him for just taking this on
and just having to offer you whatsoever.
Just bashing it on, does that lad?
Yes, absolutely yes.
Here we go.
We just made our way up this crevice all the way up to the mountain
and now we're going to get to the top.
I can't wait.
There you go there, mate.
We made it.
We did it, we did it.
The summit's actually up there, mate,
Still, we've done the hard bit, haven't we?
Yeah, we can do that tomorrow.
This has been a true adventure.
We just scrambled up a gully.
I'll put the name of it on screen now.
It is like known as a super sketchy gully.
Looking back down to where we've just come up,
you can see down there how,
yeah, it's a bit of a crazy one, is that?
It really is.
We just took our time and we just helped each other out
and we summited.
So really positive vibes.
It's been an epic day so far
and I think we're going to pitch up our tent soon.
So yeah, very happy days.
So the original plan was to pitch up our tents on top of Scarfell.
We were going to watch the sunset,
drink a beer and pray for an amazing sunrise.
But the longer we stayed, the more we realised
that the vicious wind was going to stop us
from getting any quality sleep.
So as the sun was coming down,
we had to make a quick decision.
So we picked up our half unpacked gear
and trekked down Scarfell to a place called Fox's Tarn.
It's one of the smallest and highest named tarns
in the Lake District
and that night we would make it our home.
So we are going to set up the tent now.
Here we go.
Okay.
Hey Blue, how you doing bud?
You okay?
Good boy.
He's a sweet dog.
Is it one man or a two man?
Oh nice.
Does the job.
Yeah, off and away.
Getting those last few pegs and guide ropes in now.
Probably going to put a rock on each one as well
if I can find one.
Ah, keep the tent looking strong.
Yeah, it was definitely a struggle getting this tent up
and I think this is probably going to be the last time
this tent's ever used to be honest.
I think this has been a very illuminating trip.
Hopefully it won't be windy all night long.
It might just have to be a job for headphones
and putting the hat over my eyes.
We'll see.
But yeah, everything's set up
and it's time just for dinner now.
So I think let's get on with that
and chill basically.
And I'm feeling pretty good.
I slept pretty decently.
My tent did withstand the wind thankfully
and yeah, I've just had a coffee.
That's why I'm able to talk
and now I'm making some porridge
and then after that I'm going to go check it out outside,
have a look at the weather.
It looks, I mean from the inside of the tent,
it looks beautiful.
It's super bright in here.
My Rab sleeping bag kept me super warm
and this Rab jacket kept me super warm
all the way through the night.
And yeah, I guess I'm just really excited for today.
I think it's going to be really a fun day.
We've got like a five mile hike
and we're going over like several different mountains.
It's going to be action-packed as yesterday was
but a lot more chill as well
because we have so much time.
We can just take our time,
just enjoy the day really.
Oh, hey boy.
Morning to you too.
Ready boy.
What a morning.
Oh, good cat.
You want this?
Nice.
Again.
Ready.
Hey boy.
Nice one.
You're a sweet fella, aren't you?
Yeah, he's such a lovely dog.
He's good fun as well.
He loves playing ball.
Al's trained him so, so well.
Come on, one more.
Ready.
All right.
Ready.
And catch.
Has he got it?
Yeah, he caught it right before the river.
Strong performance, Blue.
Strong performance.
Very good.
Look at that view, it's incredible.
Just having a super sleepy morning this morning.
Just chilling out, unwinding,
enjoying the sounds of the river right by the tent.
Yeah, I clean up some of my stuff,
just to make sure it's all ship-shaped for today.
Hey buddy.
Not on my face, come on.
He just came over to say hi.
Yeah, it's the first time I've ever hung around with a dog for so long.
So it's all new to me, but he's super sweet.
So it's the easiest thing.
Yeah, I'm just appreciating the outdoors right now.
It's so good to be out here
and just to unwind and switch off.
Like this landscape is so rugged and just crazy.
It's just an absolute pleasure to be out here.
It really is.
Look at those blue skies.
How lucky are we?
Had a great morning playing with the dog and just chilling out.
But now it's time to pack up the camp
and think about making a move.
Sun cream is on, hat is on,
because it is blue skies today.
It is boiling hot today.
Look at this pitching spot.
This has been so awesome.
I've got to say the views are fantastic
and it's sort of like encased in this mountain,
which is just an amazing place to be.
Yeah, very happy with it.
And it wasn't windy like it would have been upon the summit.
So I think we did well, mate.
I think it's absolutely awesome.
What do you think, Blue?
Is it going to be a good day?
Yeah, we're going to have a good day.
Awesome stuff.
Let's get to hiking.
There's two climbers here and here on the face.
There's lots of loose rock,
so we're just taking our time
and yeah, just enjoying it really.
And ladies and gentlemen,
the award for the biggest fall goes to...
Watch out, watch out, watch out!
David McIntyre.
Nice one, buddy.
Just happens when you're not paying attention
or misjudge a little bit of grass.
We've just got back to where we started yesterday.
We've gone on a big circle
and next up, we're going to head up Scarfell.
I can see him lurking in the background.
Hello.
Here he is.
Yeah, it's a really good climb.
I did stumble a second ago, which was no fun.
But I mean, on a day like this,
it's hard to be negative.
It's so beautiful.
Next up, Scarfell.
And then Scarfell Pike.
Always get the names wrong.
Classic me.
I always struggle.
But yeah, next up Scarfell Pike
and then I don't know what's next.
More mountains, basically.
Yeah, plenty more.
It's been a really good trip so far.
Yeah, it is just beautiful up here.
You can get this in London.
It's always busy at the top of Scarfell,
so we didn't stick around for too long.
It was our second summit of the mountain over the weekend.
So we chilled for a little bit and then we got going.
And it was at this moment that we were hit
by the best weather of the whole trip.
It was beautiful.
We're off Scarfell Pike now.
Now making our way to the next set of mountains
we want to conquer.
Deep in a boulder section now.
Boulders, boulders, boulders.
Nothing but boulders.
Enjoying it.
But it's super warm.
It's funny, the weather goes warm to cold,
warm to cold so rapidly.
It's just so unpredictable, you know.
The next peak of the day after Scarfell Pike.
Feeling good.
Look how many people are up at Scarfell Pike behind me.
You can see their silhouette.
It's packed.
It's nice to be on a route that's a little bit more quiet, isn't it?
Definitely.
Away from the hordes.
Yeah.
Right, stunning mate.
Yeah, it is beautiful.
What a day.
I know.
You can literally see for miles and miles and miles, man.
Like, and you can see the beach, the seas behind me as well.
This is another first time summit for me.
It's another little mountain in the shadow of Scarfell Pike.
Should be super exciting.
We're smashing this.
We really are.
Crag, look at this.
Eel Crag.
Nice one, mate.
What a place though.
What a place.
Look over here as well.
This view is insane.
That's so beautiful.
Incredible, isn't it?
That's called Great Moss.
Great Moss.
Oh, mate.
Yeah, this is a good spot.
I'm glad we did this.
And the beach, you can see the sea up in the distance.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah.
And we can make out, you probably won't on camera, but...
Oh, yeah.
We've come a long way already.
Oh, what a day for it as well.
So beautiful.
All right, on to the next.
Look at these gloves, man.
Look how terribly tattered these gloves are.
These are the same gloves I wore up Mont Blanc.
I just haven't been able to let them go or replace them yet.
It's so silly.
I'm gonna have to sort that out very soon.
But anyways, it is time for lunch.
Today on the menu is the spectacular cuppa soup.
This isn't just any cuppa soup.
This is two cuppa soups.
No, I'm joking.
I don't know what I've got in the bag.
I've got a fair bit of food.
So we're gonna choose between there.
I think cuppa soup is probably the way to go.
But might also do some super noodles.
So to cook, I'm gonna be using my amazing Jetboil.
This is an amazing piece of kit that I've used on multiple hikes now.
It's never let me down.
It's just consistently amazing.
Cooks things faster than you can imagine.
And yeah, it's the best new bit of kit I've had in my pack for the last few weeks.
All right, let's get it going.
I haven't got much water left.
I've got about a litre left.
I'm gonna pour in a reasonable amount, but not too much.
And then we're gonna get it going.
And literally, it will boil so bloody quick.
Let's get this going, my friends.
All right, it's a little bit windy.
So we'll build some natural barriers.
So the options on the menu today are super noodles, mug shot even.
We've got a coffee as well.
I might even bang a coffee, you know.
We're gonna go pasta, tomato and herb mug shots.
Probably gonna put two of them in the pan.
I've got my trusty...
Whoa, oh my god.
Look at this drone.
That's Al's drone right there.
Bloody Al.
You'll have to send me that clip, mate.
All right, water's boiled, just like that.
Now we're gonna add in the mug shot.
It's so good having a hot meal in the middle of an adventure.
Remember, leave no trace.
Always take care of your packaging.
I'm looking forward to this, guys.
It's been a real graft these last few days.
And if you're anything like me, I get super hangry.
So it's super important just to stay full up with food at all times.
Just so that you can enjoy the experience, really.
So yeah, I hope you're having a good day so far.
I hope you're enjoying the video so far.
I'm loving being out here.
We've got two more peaks we want to hit next.
And then after that, we are going to camp and chill for the rest of the evening.
I've got one more beer left in my bag.
So I'm excited to have that.
Yeah, I'm having a great time in the Lake District.
This place is so beautiful.
I didn't even realize how unbelievably vast it is.
All right, guys, the mug shot's ready.
I am starving.
So I'm so happy to have this.
So again, with this, just like you put it on, you unscrew it like that.
It comes loose and then you're ready to eat.
All right, it's a little bit crunchy, but you know what?
It does the job out here.
All right, so that's our lovely lunch wrapped up.
Next up, we're heading over to Great End.
Don't know anything about it, to be honest.
Going in completely clueless.
Got across a boulder field, it looks like, to get there.
Doing one more mountain and that's where we're going to camp for the night.
Come on, Blue.
I'm really enjoying today.
This sun on our back that we've had pretty much consistently all day
has just given me an absolute new lease of life.
Positivity and energy and everything.
So yeah, really enjoying it.
And I hope you are too.
That is incredible, isn't it?
I feel so lucky to be here.
So good.
We walked up there yesterday.
Yeah.
Down from the Styhead town, up the corridor route, which you can see all that way.
Oh, mate.
We are at the top of Great End and it is looking lush out here, guys.
It's incredible weather.
Been an incredible day, an incredible experience.
Yeah, I'm really happy to be here.
That's how much water I've got left though,
so I've got to ration that until we get to the next water source.
It's epic here, guys.
So epic.
I'm trying to catch up with Alan.
What a view.
This is it.
Look at this.
Alan Craggs?
Yes, mate.
Yet another one, mate.
Yes, my guy.
Oh, we smashed it.
All right, guys.
This is another peak.
Alan Craggs.
His mountain, his mountain.
But we're here.
That's what matters.
We're here.
Time for pitching up soon, I hope.
I'm looking forward to it, man.
Looking forward to a beer.
We are heading on to Glaramara over there.
So that is where we're going to pitch.
Yes.
Dude, I can't wait.
I'm looking forward to the sweet taste of a beer.
Happy days.
Our original plan was to pitch up at the top of Glaramara,
but we decided to leave that final summit
for our final morning in the Lake District.
He's come.
Blue's come to say hi.
Hey, buddy.
I'm coming back.
Can't lie, I'm thinking about food right now.
Blood sugar's low.
I am hungry.
So let's peg this boy.
Hey, Blue, you coming to help?
Hey.
Come on, get out of the way, dude.
He's hit me with his tail.
Look at this.
This is my little cheap and cheerful
mountain equipment Lynx 1.
I could do with one that withstands the wind a bit better,
that's for sure.
But right now, this does the job for me.
So we've done one corner.
On to the next corner.
This is so much nicer to peg in, isn't it?
Much better ground.
That went up much easier than yesterday.
Gosh.
Sleepy are you?
I've got my lovely yellow,
bright luminous yellow sleeping mat.
My wrap sleeping bag and my Amazon Prime pillow.
All of this kit, it just absolutely bangs.
I think I've got the sleeping system dialed in, to be honest.
If you want to see the equipment that I use
and all of the filming equipment,
all of the camping equipment that I have,
feel free to check out the description down below.
Everything is linked there.
It's always been linked there in every single one of my videos.
So anyways, now I think it's time to make some dinner.
I'm starving.
Here we go.
So guys, on the menu today,
probably my least favorite freeze-dried meal,
but it's the last one I had at home
and I just wanted to use it up.
So yeah, we'll see how it goes.
Hopefully it goes well.
It actually looks better than I thought it would.
I'm excited.
I'm not gonna lie, I'm absolutely starving.
So I've been looking forward to this
since we've been setting up the tent.
So yeah, let's do some cooking.
They're just such easy little meals that come in packets.
They're quite cheap.
They're normally about four to six pounds.
The ones I used are the big names,
but there's all different kinds of ones
on the market that you can find.
For lunch, Al had an army one.
He said it was two years old,
but it still looked better than my cup of soup.
I won't lie.
So you can literally get food from anywhere really
and it all works, you know.
All right, the big moment.
Here we go.
Yeah, it's quite good actually.
I think I've actually had that meal
for about a few months since I did the Ridgeway, I think.
Just never got around to eating it.
So yeah, it's actually decent.
Just making a wheat coffee now,
just a sip in the evening.
That dinner was so lush, really loved it.
I feel so much happier having eaten
so much more chilled and so much more positive.
I've just gone on a little walk from the campsite
just to have another look at these views
about my backpack on and oh my god,
it is unbelievably beautiful here.
It's brilliant to see wild campers
and just what outdoor enthusiasts using this space.
Oh yeah, what a day it's been.
What an absolute amazing day it's been.
This trip is coming to an end.
Tomorrow we've got one more peak to do
and it's just over there.
After that we're gonna come down the mountain
and jump in the Land Rover and head home.
Yeah, what a trip it's been.
I've had such good time.
I don't want it to end to be honest.
It's so beautiful here.
It's nothing like I've ever seen before.
I've never really taken in the Lake District
fully for what it is
and this trip has been a complete eye-opening experience
for me.
It's so good to be here, so, so good
and I would have to come back soon.
I really will.
Oh, it's so good to be outside
and in this ruggedly beautiful landscape.
It's just incredible.
I'm definitely gonna have to buy myself
one of these water fillers.
It is so peaceful.
Just coming down to the lakeside,
sampling some water,
just filling it all myself.
Such a great way to just unwind and end the day.
Now I'm gonna sit in my tent for a little bit, relax
and then shortly we're gonna have a beer,
do a bit of a Q&A for Al's video
which will be good fun.
Go for it, mate.
I've got a Brewdog Hazy Jean.
I'm gonna get that, yeah, yeah.
A little bit, yeah.
I was thinking about garden anyway.
I'm not gonna get into politics
because I'm just not.
This guy's, this guy's confident.
He's confident apparently.
I just did a quick Q&A with Al,
so if you want to see that,
make sure you go and check out his video as well.
There's gonna be a whole other angle
of this trip on his account.
But yeah, just look at that sunset.
It's so pretty.
Incredible, but you know,
even behind some of these clouds
would have picked a bit of color up.
Yeah, yep, well I think.
Morning guys, it is coffee time.
And now it's just time to break up camp
and slowly make our way down this mountain.
The weather's been so kind to us,
so kind to us
and I've had a brilliant time.
It's definitely the best wild camping trip
that I've ever gone on.
I've had so much fun.
We've got one last summit.
It's the mountain we didn't summit yesterday.
So yeah, I'm really excited to do this.
Let's get going.
A few meters away from the top.
I can't wait for this.
It's gonna be awesome.
A little walk home.
Yes, just a trek down the hill now.
You'll see a couple of clips of that,
but that is it guys.
That's the end of the video.
I really appreciate you watching
and Al, thanks for taking me out.
It's been an absolute pleasure mate.
We've had a great time.
Loads of laughs, loads of fun.
Yeah, I've really enjoyed it.
It's nice to meet you properly,
you know, like spend some time with you
and you know, a friend for life here.
Yeah, we'll have to do this again.
Nice one guys.
Make sure you check out Bushman and Blue's channel.
It's gonna be linked at the top of the description down below.
It's been an absolute pleasure.
Thanks again for watching.
All my kit is linked down in the description below as well
if you're interested in anything we use in this video.
But yeah, nice one.
I'll see you in the next one.
Cheers.
