This herbal tea relieves flu, cold and cough symptoms.
First, wash fresh ginger thoroughly to remove any dirt and peel it with a knife.
Now cut 1 inch of ginger root into thin slices.
It does not have to be precise, but you want plenty of surface area to steep and release as much juices as possible while making the tea.
With 1 inch of ginger root, you will easily be able to make 8-10 thin ginger slices.
Now in a glass bowl, add ginger slices, heat 1 cup of water and when it starts to boil, immediately add boiling water to the bowl.
You need the water at rolling boil, not just hot, for the ginger to steep properly.
Now cover the bowl with lid, let it sit for 10 minutes and you should get a lovely, pale, gold colored, slightly cloudy tea.
At this point, you can strain out the bits of ginger if you like, but I generally prefer to leave them in.
Once it comes down to room temperature, it's time to add honey.
As per Ayurveda, you should never add honey to hot fluids as honey becomes toxic for the body.
So add honey only when the ginger water is lukewarm.
Once done, roll a lemon for quick vitamin C and then squeeze the juice into the tea.
You can also add one entire lemon if you like.
Now stir the drink well and drink it immediately.
As long as you have peeled the ginger, everything should sit at the bottom of the bowl.
So you can drink it directly without filtering it without too much trouble.
This quick simple recipe of ginger tea is not only delicious but also warming and great for dealing with sore throats, cold and nasal congestion.
