so this is the rat a durg fort on the coast south of Mumbai and this is a real interesting place because it's a coastal Fort and it was taken over by chatrapati Shiva G he was one of the first if not the first to have uh a Navy as part of his combative forces and the main reason he started a Navy wow look at this view the main reason he started a Navy was to compete with the Portuguese who arrived between the 15 and 1600s and once they showed up with their massive ships Shiva G realized if we're going to be able to fight off these colonizers or even have a chance against them we're going to need our own ships so far what I love about the forts that I've seen in India and I haven't seen too many is how they often incorporate the natural features of the landscape that the fort is built in so with like calavant and durg you know it took advantage of that natural lookout tower with that pinnacle and they built those steps into it this cult and this Coastal Fortress has a rather unique natural feature that they also took advantage of so given that he had the most powerful navy on the subcontinent you'd think that finding forts or building forts with natural features natural ports that could accommodate the ships would be important so the interesting thing about this particular Fort is that besides the wonderful views of the coast you could see people coming for miles away besides the beautiful views that you get from this fort this for is actually built on a massive naturally occurring sea cave and it's rumored that that sea cave let you come up into the fort but I see something interesting and I wonder if they're just keeping water down there hm interesting that Gate's locked though the entire Fork complex is massive like it's going to take several hours to explore all of this so there's a little little uh snack spot right across the main entrance there I'm fueling up with my favorite snacks in India of ice cold fruity and some Masala Munch fuel this adventure first we'll start with the fruity we can't got to start with the tasty icy cold fruity mango delicious and the colors match even Masala Munch is kind of like a Cheetos but like instead of Being Cheesy they're a little spicy so it's like a non cheesy cheeto a little Masala on it little spice see it goes all the way over there I think it Incorporated most of the Headlands at one point like there's houses and stuff over there but I think all of this was at one point part of the fort I it's stretched from from here all the way back here I'm pretty sure the reason why I came to rat niri was the main one was I'm on my way south and I wanted a stop over point so I didn't have to take like a 10 hour 8 Hour train ride that was my main reason for coming and then I looked on my Google Maps and I saw I had a point pinned in Rat niri and I was like what is that I don't remember what that is and then I looked at it and I was like aha forgot my hat so I'm hoping this Leaf will provide an ounce of protection and I think literally it will just provide an ounce so much more to see though so much more to see see let's keep it moving it's you and me Leaf onward for those of you who have been longtime viewers of this channel you probably already know that my plan is to jump in here and find that secret entrance to the Fort unfortunately I met a guy up top and I'm pretty sure he's telling me the truth who told me that there were some archaeologists here several years ago who wanted to go through and and do an expedition through to the old entrance and they discovered that the cave had collapsed so it doesn't go all the way through that entrance anymore I'm still tempted to go in and see how far I can get but I got to be honest that water is not so inviting look I'd be lying if I said I wasn't disappointed I am so disappointed when I remembered why I had pinned the spot on Google Maps that there's a sea cave that leads to a secret entrance to a 500-year Old Fort I was so excited last night I was like this is what I'm talking about they do a guided trip into another cave on the opposite side of the Headland which looks pretty cool if you haven't been caving before but it looks a little kind of Rinky Dink for my liking I mean if you haven't been caving before if you don't know how to swim it looks like you can get down into a sump area where there is water um there might be one repel or something like that some tight squeezes so it's a good intro caving Adventure that's not what I was looking for I was looking for a solo Mission solo Adventure Indiana Jones style into the fort Secret cave passage how awesome does that sound but got skunked but you know rat niri some beautiful beaches here I haven't seen any yet but I hear they're very beautiful I'm going to walk around this Headlands a little more and see what else what else there is to do in Rat niri I'm only here for the rest of the day so you can see how far that Fort wraps around this Headlands there's a lighthouse on that side I think it still keeps going a little bit around there too so you can see it's massive complex here beautiful Headlands I think I might call this video how to get sun poisoning in India so I feel like that's the path we're headed on I really like this neighborhood behind the fort that like I was saying at the top that I think it was part of the fort like stuff like this I think is remnants of the Old Fort and there's this Temple over here lots of old old trees and just like the vibe in this little this little town here Shady relaxed people just passing through to go to the go to the for well I have to say I really like these little back streets behind the fort in between like the main downtown and the and the fort all these trees and shades beautiful banion tree is beautiful self selfie selfie self selfie jind all right got to get the selfie in with the boys so just had to pop in the AC and cool off mewani pure veg food very good it was already forgot how how much I paid less than 700 that's right less than 700 so it was 680 I think which is more expensive than a lot of the foods I've been eating lately so that's like around 8 bucks something like that most of the food I've been eating lately has been like under 200 a lot of daa and uh Cho places like uh little corner Shack stores and little chot stands little snack stands so that's the first I think the first like proper like fancy it's fancy definitely by Indian standards anything with AC is going to be fancy but I don't think they cater to like foreigners cuz I don't see a whole lot of foreigners coming through here but if you come to the Fort definitely check that place out food was real good super spicy just the way I like it and now I'm just going to check out this little park over here here really just look like a Chill Spot hopefully I don't interrupt these people nice little Chill Spot beautiful [Music] trees yeah nice Royal Palms there this is is like a good place to come and relax meditate hello or just hang out with your girlfriend just just hanging out this is where you come with your girlfriend I guess I maybe I shouldn't be here it's only if you bring I should have brought my wife she would love this she would love this spot for sure yeah it's a good spot yeah this part of rat niri I really like this closer to the Fort when we get back to the main definitely more interesting than where where I came in on the main road as well but I think this leads back out to it people probably see me holding this Leaf thinking what is he doing with that leaf couldn't go in the cave or couldn't get to the secret way up the fort you know everything worked out in the end had a beautiful experience in a beautiful little city here on the coast of India south
