it's just something I've just got to put
my back into a little bit
[Music]
more good morning guys welcome to
another allotment Vlog on this beautiful
January day I've woken up again to Blue
Skies hi Einstein just fed Einstein so
he's happy chirping away um yeah such a
lovely gorgeous day so I couldn't resist
getting down here again and just doing a
few jobs and just working on the plot um
I just wanted to quickly add here that
if you're not feeling up to go into your
lotman and you're taking it slow in
January that is absolutely fine like I
don't want you to watch these videos and
feel like stress that you're behind or
anything that is absolutely not the case
and if you are just taking things slow
in January and just having a really slow
relaxed start then that's absolutely
great there's not much you can plant at
this time there's not much to do other
than clearing and just sort of building
your plot and if you've already done
that take a break chill yeah just um you
know take it slow like Einstein does
every day of his life um but yeah I'm
down here today I can't believe what I
did last time I'm actually super
impressed with myself that Christmas
break must have done me so much good
because I seem to have done quite a lot
so I think what I'm going to do is go
and grab some wood chip and just start
wood chipping those new Pathways because
why not I mean we're halfway there with
them let's finish them and then I think
the rest of the plan is going to be just
to start clearing some of the back of
the uh the plot down there because like
I said there's not much else to do um
before we get into it I just wanted to
show you quickly my purple sprouting
broccoli because it's the one thing
that's been planted here that hasn't
done anything like in the year 2023
we're now in the next year um and it's
still very much alive the storm didn't
damage it um it's a little bit fallen
over but it's all right it is just it's
just such a beautiful crop um I remember
growing this in my first year I just
whacked them in didn't expect anything I
haven't grown them since until now um so
the broccoli should come well any week
now really and with purple sprouting
broccoli it kind of sprouts into little
broccoli heads everywhere and but these
plants are so gorgeous and they've
stayed standing throughout the storm and
look how vibrant and green they are they
just make me feel so happy at this time
of year they're fantastic plant what
I'll do when they start producing
broccoli is I'll pick some and eat it
and I'll probably leave a couple of
plants to sprout into flowers and
because the pollinators love it and it
makes a great early flower for them um
and that keep them happy but look how
lovely and vibrant and green they are
know it's just nice to see something
green on the plot you know just
something green and growing um and alive
uh right okay let's go on with the uh
the wood chip before everyone arrives SE
is my dodgy wool
[Music]
Barrow
I think this pathway is going under that
isn't it so I need to pull it
up so if you move that way for a
second this is what I mean about the
pathways being really good to make like
this because you can change
them so you just move it
over and then all you have to do is pull
up the ground
sheet pull the pegs
out and then we sort of fold the ground
sheet shorter and make the path a little
bit shorter so how much shorter are we
[Applause]
making just fold it over and redo
it
right I didn't actually film that
because it's a little bit boring but I
basically cut a bit ground sheet filled
this bit here so now we can use the wood
chip around here it should make a big
difference as you can see it's made a
difference over there so logic says if
it's made a difference over there it'll
make a difference over here um it always
just makes it look a bit more put
together do you know what I mean so I'm
going to get my rake for this cuz it's a
bit wet and um not dry it's a bit wet
not dry oh it's been a long break guys I
don't know what I'm saying
[Music]
anymore what is that bit string oh my
gosh where's the r
from where in Earth did that come from
it's the longest bit of
[Music]
[Laughter]
rope
[Music]
right that felt pretty good actually
getting those Pathways in and stuff um
it's always good to get some more
Pathways in and some more wood chip down
because it just makes the plot come
together a bit more it's time to do the
job but I don't really want to do which
is to start tackling the back I think
I'll start by collecting all the rubbish
and putting it in a pile and then we're
just going to tackle it we're just going
to dive in sometimes when you don't know
where to start or what to do best thing
to do is just to dive in Just Do It um
so rubbish first I think I'll make a
pile over there right let's just dive in
like I literally just said the rubbish
situation is becoming a real stress in
my life right now I'm really I hate
it
[Music]
right we're just going to dive
in how do you dive into that I don't
know I don't know either
[Music]
[Music]
do
it's a Paving
slab
oh it's a Paving slab that is
[Music]
useful to cut it
[Music]
out oh my God it's just stuck to the
ground cuz all of the stuff all of the
bralls are grown through it so I'm left
with these roots that's just rooting
into the ground and they seem to have
like double rooted probably because
they're so desperate to survive so it's
just a
nightmare right it's just something I've
just got to put my back into a little
bit more um right I'm going to get this
up this is going to make a huge
difference I know
[Music]
it
[Music]
I have to stop because I'm so exhausted
I did find these which is a very
exciting discovery not every Discovery I
make is ex in but these are I think they
are like not I want to say tiles you
know like the patio slabs but they're
thinner they're sort of supposed to go
over the top of patio slabs but these
would be really useful um I did Smash
one of them but the rest of them are
okay so this is a really interesting
[Music]
discovery
[Music]
this is how far we got so the ground
sheets all up up to there and then this
is starting to be cleared now you can
see there's a clear difference in what
I've done but the ground sheet here is
like cemented to the ground it's just
really difficult to get it up but
luckily now I've got my Spade I'll be
able to dig out all of these and um all
of those canes there and hopefully start
to just yeah just make it really clear
and then there's going to be raised beds
here and I was thinking in front of that
bit there you see where that little
ground sheet is I might build a fence
along there and kind of have like the
wildli kind of like like compost the
area behind it cuz I don't know what
else to do with all that to be honest
that is a lot of stuff to get rid of
think a nice fence there and then maybe
some like chicken wire across it or
something and then you kind of put all
the sticks behind the chicken wire it'd
be quite nice like Wildlife Area like a
bug area um do you know what I mean so
it's just along the back of my plot here
probably losing maybe like a meter just
along this line we build a fence with
chicken wire and they just everything
there s goes over the top so it becomes
like this but it won't fall down or
anything that's the best I can think to
do with that that's the best that my
brain can come up with to be honest I
mean I do have an awful lot of plot to
work with so I'm not worried about
losing that little bit of space and it
will rot down over time anyway so in a
few years it' be mine again um I hope
you enjoyed my Vlog today if you have
subscribed to my channel I'll be back
again on Friday so have a lovely rest of
your gardening week see you later see
you next time bye so
