in the movie The Pursuit of Happiness
Chris Gardner goes from living on the
streets with his son to owning a
multi-million dollar stock broker firm
how mindset through all of the struggles
he faces Chris remains determined and
never gives up on creating a better life
for himself and his son this is the
power of mindset
after watching today's video you'll have
new tools to help you shift your mindset
become the best version of yourself and
feel fulfilled so here are three
powerful mindset shifts that will change
your life
number one
the abundance mindset let's start with a
word of advice from brene Brown a
renowned author in the self-help space
and a research professor at the
University of Houston we can't ask
people to give us something that we
believe we are not worthy of receiving
do you believe that you're worthy of
receiving the things you want in life
whether it's building a successful
career or having fulfilling
relationships opening yourself up to New
Opportunities and believing that you are
worthy of them can be life-changing
a powerful way to do this is to build an
abundance mindset in his popular book
The Seven Habits of Highly Effective
People Stephen Covey described the
abundance mindset and the scarcity
mindset if you have an abundance mindset
you believe there's room for everyone to
succeed and you're grateful for what you
have on the other hand if you have a
scarcity mindset you're focused on what
you lack you believe there are limited
resources and only room for some people
to win
to build an abundance mindset practice
gratitude daily you can become more
content with your life and focus on
working towards your goals rather than
stressing about what you don't have
reflect on what you're grateful for and
focus on the amazing things that are
happening in your life even just the
fact that you woke up today is something
to celebrate you might even form better
relationships with your friends or
co-workers because when you believe that
there is enough to go around for
everyone there's no room left for being
jealous or bitter when you see other
people win also try to be cooperative
instead of competitive when possible as
Oprah said if you look at what you have
in life you'll always have more if you
look at what you don't have in life
you'll never have enough
number two the growth mindset let's do a
mini quiz to see what type of mindset
you currently have which statement do
you agree with more a my skills can be
developed with time and effort or B my
skills are innate and can't be changed
or improved
if you agree with a you probably have
what is called a growth mindset if you
agree with B you probably have a fixed
mindset these terms were originally
coined by psychologist Carl dweck people
who have a growth mindset believe that
if they work hard enough they can
develop their intelligence talents and
abilities people with a fixed mindset
believe that everyone is born with
certain abilities some people are
naturally good at things others aren't
and there's nothing we can do to change
it
shifting to a growth mindset can greatly
improve your well-being and quality of
life this is because people with a
growth mindset have an internal locus of
control in other words you believe that
you have control of your life as opposed
to believing that your life is
controlled by external factors
a study conducted by researchers alacha
and Suri showed that having an internal
locus of control is positively linked to
several well-being factors including
self-acceptance purpose in life and
personal growth a growth mindset can
help you feel encouraged that you can
grow and improve with time and effort
catch yourself when you're having
discouraging thoughts like things will
never change for me or I'm inherently
bad at this and I'll never be good at it
and if no one else has told you today
psych2goers we are here to tell you that
you can achieve anything you put your
mind to We Believe In You
number three progress over Perfection
would you consider yourself to be a
perfectionist maybe you try to make sure
that everything is 100 Flawless and
don't feel comfortable submitting an
assignment or work project or sometimes
even sending a text before it's perfect
you have a huge fear of making mistakes
this slows you down because you spend so
much time perfecting things if you can
relate this quote by Cheryl Sandberg
former CEO of Facebook might help you
shift your mindset done is better than
perfect
the idea behind this mindset isn't that
you should stop putting in any effort or
submit low quality work rather when
you're working towards a goal it's
beneficial to shift your mindset from
Perfection to progress focus on enjoying
and learning from the process
you might find that you're a lot happier
and more productive when you have this
mindset because you're not spending a
ton of time stressing to ensure the
outcome is perfect besides mistakes
aren't failures they're opportunities to
learn
we hope this video helped you learn
about the power of mindset and reflect
on your own thoughts and beliefs
remember that mindset shifts don't work
without action you can't just change
your mindset without changing anything
else in your life and expect results
acting on your positive mindset is what
creates real change did this video help
you recognize any beliefs that aren't
serving you that you'd like to change
