Today's makeover is one I actually wasn't fully planning until the beginning of this year! I created an office space for myself that I found myself not using as much as I thought I would.

hi everybody welcome back to my channel
Drew here from Lone Fox and today we are
making over another space in my 1929
home if you happen to be new here
welcome we have been making over so many
spaces throughout my 1929 Spanish style
home and it has been so much fun to
document it here on the channel today
we're working on a space though that
kind of was never actually supposed to
be what it is until I sat down at the
beginning of the year and I kind of
roughly brainstormed some of the
projects I wanted to work on throughout
2024 one of the projects I wanted to
start off by doing was is actually
creating myself a new office space and
so many of you have already watched me
create an office space in my home but
something I will tell you guys is I have
only sat in that office space twice
since creating it months and months ago
I don't know what it is but I think
having a room dedicated to being an
office makes me not want to go work in
there even more if that makes sense and
in my previous apartment I had a little
office just kind of Nook in my bedroom
and I used that religiously like you
could find me there 9 to 5 every day
unless I was filming I really love that
little office Nook and I realized in my
current bedroom I have the perfect
opportunity to create a office Nook so
similar to my previous apartments that I
absolutely loved and then in the future
we are going to be turning the office
space that is currently here at the home
the one with the green Walls the
stunning desk and the light fixture we
are going to be transforming that into
something else which I have ideas for it
will come sometime this year sometimes
things just need to change up you know I
haven't found myself using that space
and it's not because of the design or
like the practicality or functionality
of the room at all I really think I just
find myself not going over to that area
of the house to want to work and before
diving into this project I did want to
let all of you know that over on my
website lone fox.com where we sell a
bunch of different HomeGoods Decor even
vintage furniture which some new pieces
are coming they're right there I
literally store everything in my home we
are having a buy more save more sale
throughout January I'm going to pop up
the details on the screen this is just a
great additional kind of savings on top
of our already free shipping over $99 so
if you are in the market to kind of
spruce up your home for the new year so
many new products I finally got around
to shooting them posting them on the
site so they're currently all active and
there's just a lot happening over on the
site so if you haven't been in a second
take a look and buy more to save more
but let's dive into this closet turned
office
transformation this right here is the
little pass through that essentially
goes from my bedroom which is the room
that I'm in and when you walk through it
leads into the bathroom now the bathroom
door we actually accidentally threw away
a while back when they did the floors
they had to take the doors off and this
one somehow ended up making it into the
pile of trash so it is now missing
however I don't really want a door here
anyways so I need to find something or
figure out potentially something to do
here don't mind not having a door here
but if I could find one that is an
option in here is where we're going to
be doing the wood paneling over on this
left side there are these cabinets these
are really large and they are newly
installed and they're great they're
really large and nice however I've been
living here for a year and I have just a
few random Blazers in here I've never
opened this since I mean there's a cup
in here lovely there's some shoes down
here I haven't even opened this up since
also adding the item so clearly you guys
can tell the only reason that I opened
this is I have my socks and underwear in
these nice drawers the only drawers that
I have so I'm going to be converting
this little area into my office and I am
so excited about this it just feels so
much like the previous apartment if you
guys remember I had that little office
Nook in my bedroom that was formerly the
closet I'm just going to pull out the
cabinets and create my own little Nook
so then I'll be able to put a built-in
counter I'm going to have a chair that I
can put in here there's Justin we're
about to get started waiting to demo
waiting to demo I haven't pulled out
cabinets this large before so let's see
how this
[Music]
goes so when it came to removing the
built- tins I started off by removing
the tracks and drawers the bar at the
top and the crown molding and then I
really wanted to be able to remove these
all as one piece the top and and then
the bottom piece that way we can like
reuse them or repurpose them or even
donate them however that was not the
case with the bottom piece we actually
got the top piece out pretty well it
took us like 20 minutes or so to budge
that out it was a super tight squeeze
but I will tell you that they actually
installed the bottom one and mounted all
the sides to the wall as opposed to
constructing it together maybe it's a
little smaller towards the bottom and
then underneath that I had to remove the
tile that they had placed in here from
the
bathroom doing a little demo here oh oh
a
gorgeous purple a violet shade in a
beautiful bright red I don't know if you
can tell but this is the original
countertop it was just like a wooden
countertop and they added this
disgusting like gray fake Stone over the
top of it which just took away from
first of all the character of this so
we're going to bring it back isn't that
crazy to think that someone painted it
that color and had it like that all in
this entire room this is
cute
that worked far
[Music]
[Music]
better
under the demoed cat tree they just laid
some tile down as a foundation so I
pulled up the Hardy Backer board that
had the mortar on top of it because
we're going to be laying down some new
flooring all right everyone so there is
a lot going on here essentially this has
been in the process of being Stripped by
Justin and I all morning and I filmed a
little bit of it but it was not too
exciting it's just taking a while to
strip so we added some more same with
with the window yesterday we ended up
removing the tile and the Hardy Backer
with the mortar on top of it and this is
the subfloor underneath now none of this
on top of here which looks almost like
mold it's not just a little wet from
these towels we had sitting on top of it
so don't worry about that but we are now
going to be essentially taking these
planks which I picked these up at Lowe's
thankfully they had literally almost the
same exact plank as what's on the floor
it's the same size it's not Quon Oak
which is what this is this is just a red
oak but that do not matter at all
because this is going to look perfect
we're going to be able to like finish
the floor all the way back stain it to
match I'm kind of excited to see how
this patch looks so let's get
started when I found out that I had to
patch the wood floor in this room I was
a little nervous because I've never
patched wood floor I've never even done
wood floor in general so I've never laid
it at all however I figured if I had a
patch anywhere it would be under the
desk and I did a pretty good job I'm not
going to lie I found these wood boards
that were the same exact width and also
the same thickness so they just were
flush with the floor and it looked looks
great and just like that our patched
wood floor is done and that was honestly
far easier than I thought it was going
to be the wood looks so great we have
the tiniest micro I mean there's not
even a seam I was going to say there's a
seam but there's really really not we're
going to go ahead and stain this at the
very end so this is going to stay as is
for now now that we are at the point of
basically adding stuff to the walls I
want to share with you exactly what we
are doing in this space because I have
always always loved wood panel rooms I
was kind of into wood paneling the room
off of the living room the current
office space however I just ended up
painting that space and so I thought for
this smaller area since it is on the
smaller side kind of as a transition
between my bathroom and my bedroom maybe
having like kind of a moodier wood
paneling on here would be kind of fun
fully wood paneled with hardwood floor
because I was trying to think to myself
like what is an alternative that
everyone can do I want to share with you
guys how you two can take wood flooring
turn it into really beautiful wood
paneling here is said wood floor so I
actually picked up all of this wood
floor last week with Justin at Floor and
Decor and we headed there first I
actually went to Home Depot and Lowe's
to start but they didn't have any
hardwood floors that I love so I ended
up going to Floor and Decor and I found
this one here I will pop up the exact
one for you guys now because this room
is so small and we only needed under 200
ft of the material I did opt for a
little bit more of a pricier wood
because it's going on the wall it's
going to be so visual and I opted for a
really stunning solid red Oak because
when I saw it on the wall at Floor and
Decor you see it on the wall and it kind
of is in like flaps and it's going to be
on your floor in the future however I'm
going to Envision it on the wall so it
was nice to see it there I tipped over a
box to open it to share with you look
how pretty that coloring is and it's an
oak so it has such a beautiful grain to
it and I'm so excited to see this on the
walls I think it's such a beautiful wood
flooring I didn't want a wide plank even
though that would go quicker I really
wanted the paneling to look kind of more
detail and more kind of mixed matched
grain so that's why I went for the
smaller plank using a laser level to
Mark 29 in from our floor because that's
where we want the desk to go so we're
going to put that paneling up
first oh my gosh I fell hurt myself kind
of the amount of times he hurts himself
in a
day
so I used a few pieces of the wood
flooring and these clamps just to kind
of put together this little contraption
that allows me to then take the wood
piece put it in press it up against this
every single time I get the same cut cuz
currently we're cutting 28 and2 in
tall slide this
in the green tape on the wall indicates
where the countertop is going to be so I
actually ended up cutting some wood
pieces from our wood flooring down to
sides that fit perfectly underneath this
that also went down to the new floor
that we patched we are going to be
setting the tabletop on top of this
because it's supported on the left side
the right side and the back for a super
secure
[Music]
bond this here is the wood that I got
from Lowe's it's just a project panel
that you can use to create shelves or
benches or like DIY furniture pieces and
it was already 24 in deep so I just had
to cut it to the width that I wanted
which was 50 and 1/2
in I
mean ooh I mean that's a fa like I could
like lay on this if I wanted to
oh my gosh this looks so good this is
just our base for the desk oh something
else that we added Outlet yesterday I
actually had my electrician come and he
actually went all the way from this
Outlet here up around the door and down
so that we can have an outlet for my
computer in the desk area because I
didn't want to have to like string it
across trip on it going into the
[Music]
bathroom so in order to get the wood
panels on the wall you're just going to
place them on and then I used a brad
nailer to nail through the side of the
wood these are about 3/4 of an inch
thick so you can just nail straight
through the side and then into the wall
at an angle I used a hammer to tap the
tongue and groove together of the
hardwood it creates a really nice tight
Bond and it really also makes the
process go kind of like satisfying
because as you piece the piece together
the wall just gets really nice and
sturdy you can kind of see it come
together it's almost like you're
creating and finishing a puzzle
[Music]
[Music]
as you can see we are starting to work
on the arch here which is actually quite
a challenge um it's not like actually
like super challenging it was more so a
challenge to figure out how to start
doing it so what we kind of decided on
doing is just adding each panel as we go
so as you can see we've already done all
inside of here which is looking so good
kind of coming up a bit bright on camera
at the moment and then over here
hammering in just a few at a time and
then using just a little Sharpie to then
Mark on the back side transferring it
over to the jigsaw and just trimming off
these little bits
here
[Music]
something I think I forgot to mention is
that this hardwood floor is tongue and
groove which essentially means that one
side of the hardwood has kind of a
tongue on it and the other side has a
Groove so the pieces actually fit
together really perfectly you just need
a hammer or a mallet to just kind of tap
them into place I also used a brad
nailer to secure the pieces of wood to
the wall so I just placed the next wood
piece used the hammer to tap it into
place and then I shot the nails at a
sideways angle almost into the tongue
and groove siding and then went into the
wall so I used a long 1 and 1/2 in nail
I also on the desk or tabletop I ended
up using Liquid Nails on the back side
because I wanted this to bond with our
project panel that we used as the base
of the desk and really create a super
sturdy thick desk base so this ends up
being about 1 and 1/2 in of solid
[Music]
hardwood well hello good morning it is
Saturday and I thought I would share
with you guys kind of where we are at
and where we got to this week with the
office closet flip transformation so let
me flip the camera because I also have a
few questions for you that I would love
your comments or just kind of opinions
on totally feel free to give me any
ideas because I do have a few decisions
to make and I need to make them
something you might be able to notice is
that it is raining outside it's also
extremely gloomy so please disregard
that when kind of looking at this office
space but I mean even in the Rainy
gloominess how gorgeous is this looking
so far here is the amount we've done
it's probably a little grainy since it
is dark at the moment and then of course
down here we have the built-in desk and
just to give you a little look at how
clean and flush like all of this turned
out please disregard my bed in the back
because I am editing at the moment but
as you can see I also love this view we
are going to be doing the wood on the
ceiling I think the desk is here we
still have the floor covered and as you
work your way up the ceiling is not
covered yet and then as you kind of work
your way over to the left we still do
have to cover this entire section here
with the wood paneling I am considering
adding a shelf under here just because
this is kind of just like dead space you
can't really put anything under there
you can't really walk there either so I
feel I might add another shelf there and
something else I would also like to do
is add either one shelf here or two
shelves here it is a pretty tall area so
I wanted to know your guys's thoughts on
like two shelves and I'm going to be
wrapping them in the same exact wood
that way it really feels cohesive I can
put my books up here a lot of my design
books and then I can also add some Decor
elements my desktop computer we have the
outlet as well which is so great this to
me is warm it's inviting it's still
bright and especially when it's sunny
outside this room just feels incredible
I cannot wait to get the wood over here
