Okay. Cheers, babe.
Last night in Alaska.
Six weeks.
I think we did
Alaska just right.
Yeah, I would agree.
I think to do Alaska this way
you have to have
a course, a lot of
spare time,
the funds to be able to travel
and do the
adventures.
The adventures are very expensive.
If you figured it out
then you have to
be really healthy because if you're
not able to use your
two legs to get places.
Yeah.
So
what were your favorite things?
I definitely love
seeing the nature
both
the plant life and especially
the animal life. We were
fortunate to be able to take some
excursions
in our boat.
We saw bears in the wild.
They were fishing for salmon.
That was tremendous.
We saw bears
and moose along the road.
Absolutely enchanted with
just so clean
and pristine there.
So you have to kind of adjust when you come back to the U.S.
But then you get
readjusted to the U.S.
and then it's just this marvelous wild
frontier land
with a lot of history.
The native history.
Victor
sorry but that's kind of what impressed me
is the history.
So
what were your highlights?
So I thought that
Denali
was breathtaking.
It was so gorgeous.
And we were so
lucky to get a clear day and
do the plane flight around
Denali. And if you haven't
seen it, the whole
plane flight was recorded. It's on
YouTube. Look for
Breakaway Adventures
and
you'll be able to watch it.
But
all of the little fishing
villages and seaports
Saldatna
Homer
Seward
Valdez
was beautiful. Here we are
in Skagway and it's
equally
beautiful and just so
rich in the
Klondike Whirlbrush history.
History again?
Yeah. Well, I mean one of the
things that really excited you
was to be able to go out
salmon fishing. Yeah.
That was really a big part. Oh, halibut
fishing, yeah. I mean those were
those were things that were
just objectives of this trip.
I wanted to go salmon fishing
and have a
salmon dinner that was caught
that day. And likewise
I wanted to go halibut fishing
and have a halibut dinner that was
caught. And we got to do both.
Salmon and halibut.
Yeah. Prepared different ways by
Chef Adrian. Yeah.
And you are
eating fresh stuff wherever you are
and just hunkering
down in the places where there's really
not much.
Girdwood was a
pretty cool place.
Why was Girdwood so
fantastic? Because Toby
made arrangements for
us to have a spa day at Girdwood.
The Alieska
Resort, which is probably about
the most high-end place you can
go to here in Alaska.
We just
got to go to
their hydrotherapy area.
So this whole outdoor area that had
hot pools, cold pools,
steam rooms,
saunas.
An exfoliation
room. Yeah.
And then their
Nordic massage.
That's what I'm saying.
We paid for it.
Toby paid for it.
It was great. Thank you, Toby.
And then there was a tram ride
that you could take up
the Alieska Peak.
Yeah, the peak there.
Snow on the ground.
So, what else?
We got to go
on
a glacier and wildlife
cruise, Valdez.
Oh yeah,
with Captain Fred.
What a character.
This guy has been doing these
trips with non-stop
narration of
stories about the area.
So it's eight hours,
so it's not short, but he brings you
with his boat
that can go through
the ice and get you
a quarter mile away
from the
resort.
And there were parts
of the Columbia Glacier
that were so
deep blue
and that's caused
by
it's called ancient ice
and it's so old
and it's been so compacted
that
it just is a
it's almost like ink.
It's beautiful.
We got to go
on a
cruise
of
Seward as well,
right?
And that took us to
a different glacier,
I can't remember what the name of it was.
Yeah, but we were also in the
Kenai Fjords.
And then you could hike
in this.
The cruise in the
Kenai Fjords,
we came across a pod of
humpback whales
that were bubble
feeding. So,
they swim around,
they blow a bunch of bubbles, it
birds a school of fish
into the center of the bubbles
and then the whales all come up
together
and have lunch.
And it's just
wild to watch all of them
pop up out of the water at the same time.
That was pretty cool.
And then there was orcas,
which were really cool.
They didn't jump out of the water,
which it would have been easier
to get a picture of, but there's the fact
that they have their dorsal fins
and you can see the white marbled puffins
are the cutest birds.
We went to an aquarium,
which helped you really see
what the sea life is like.
Kayaking,
hot springs.
Yeah, we've done a lot of hot springs.
A lot of different experiences.
Definitely know which
things were the best.
So,
if you come back,
what things would you
do that we haven't done
this time? I think it's a matter
of visiting places that we couldn't
get to because it didn't
fit our schedule.
It would be nice to go up to the Arctic Circle
and see some more
of very hard to
get to, so it's usually
by plane or boat.
I'd like to go up to Dodson City
the other end of, but you know
Alaska is such a big state
and you would just have to
break it up into different trips.
Yeah.
I think the other thing that I would like to do
is to be able to see Kodiak
Island. Yeah.
I think it would be really great to see those
islands. Yeah, some of the Aleutian
Islands. Right. You know, it would be
fun to, we've
been listening to James Michener's
Alaska on the
way up here and
it talks about
the history
of Alaska
and
you know, the natives
the Aleuts that lived on
the Aleutian Islands
and with their volcanoes.
It just would be
incredible to go see that.
With fishing
and contestant lives
and the rest of the world.
Don't get me started on that.
So,
you know, I think
we have a little bit of laundry to do tonight.
That's part
of the trip. I mean, there are things that
we learned on this trip.
One of them being that
you've got to be a pretty good
mechanic to repair
stuff on the road
because there's been
a lot of breakdowns. We've had
flat tires. We've had airbags
that wouldn't inflate.
We've had
lines fall off the wall.
We've had a toilet
that wouldn't hold water.
There's just been all kinds
of stuff.
Somebody could fix
it all. Well,
I mean, I think we were fortunate
that way. I
learned a lot on this trip
about do-it-yourself
mechanics.
I learned a lot about making
reservations kind of on the fly.
Yeah, very little of this trip
was pre-booked.
Yeah, we had to book everything that was going to be popular.
That's amazing.
I think one of the things that's done for us is it's allowed
us to be pretty flexible.
When we find someplace that we want to be,
we can always stay
an extra day or two
because we know
that we can take something else
off the list and just not go there.
So we've done
a fair amount
of that.
Hello there, buddy.
Okay, well, I think
it's a wrap for now.
Yeah, so we're going to be
tomorrow.
We're going to take off and we're going to head to
Watson Lake, which we stayed at.
That's where the Stein
Forest is.
And
then we're going to be heading down
the Cassiar Highway
through
British Columbia.
And I'm really looking
forward to that.
We still have a month left to go,
so there's lots more adventures
to be had here.
But this is our last night
in Alaska, and
it just has been so
happy that we actually
did this trip.
Yeah, it is.
It's been gorgeous.
So, alright.
Catch y'all later.
Did I tell you about losing
the drone today?
That was heartbreaking.
I don't know what happened, but
it just decided to go off on its
own.
It might have something
to do with the cruise ships
and the helicopters and the airport.
It might.
