Apostle Philip
Welcome back, good day. This is Peacemaker's production, The Life of Felipe, Philip.
Alright, so Philip was born in 3 AD in Bethsaida. He died in 80 AD in Hierapolis, Turkey. His place
of burial was in Basilica del Santi VII Apostoli, Rome, Italy. And here are his characteristics.
He was a curious man who wanted to learn everything he could about Jesus and his teachings. He had a
willingness to be ready to serve the Lord. He was an evangelist and a fisherman, and probably
a fisher of men as well. Alright, Michaela. Alright, so in John chapter 6 verse 5 through 9,
NIV says, When Jesus looked up and saw a great crowd coming toward him, he said to Philip,
Where shall we buy bread for these people to eat? He asked this only to test him, for he already had
in mind what he was going to do. Philip answered him, It would take more than half a year's wages
to buy enough bread for each one to have a bite. Another of his disciples, Andrew,
Simon Peter's brother, spoke up, Here is a boy with five small barley loaves and two small fish,
but how far will they go among so many? So this is where they're talking about how Jesus performed
the miracle. Alright, so Philip recruited the skeptical Nathanael Bartholomew as an apostle,
leading Jesus to reveal that he supernaturally saw Nathanael sitting under a fig tree even before
Philip called him. John 1 verse 48, How do you know me? Nathanael asked. Jesus answered, I saw you
while you were still under the fig tree before Philip called you. That is so awesome because
since Jesus is God, the Son of Man, God already knows how things are going to go from beginning
to end, and so that's why he was able to see that and know that. God is so awesome. He is.
But here are some important acts and events that happened. In John chapter 14 verse 8 through 9,
Philip asked Jesus to reveal the Father, receiving the answer, Have I been with you so long? And yet
you do not know me, Philip. He who has seen me has seen the Father. Because Jesus is God in the flesh,
is God the Son, and so Jesus, him being God, already knew everything, everywhere, all the time
from beginning to end, and that's why. Okay, so tradition says Philip the Apostle preached in
Phrygia, in Asia, Minor, and higher up. Alright, so now we're going to go through the strengths and the
weaknesses of Philip. So, some of his strengths were, Philip fervently saw the Messiah and recognized
that Jesus was the promised Savior, even though he did not fully understand until after Jesus'
resurrection. And here are some of his weaknesses. Like the other apostles, Philip deserted Jesus
during his trial and crucifixion. Oh, so he was like Peter, and Peter denied Jesus three times.
Why did he deny him three times? Because Jesus said he was going to. Yes, that's true, but he
denied him out of fear. Peter didn't want to get crucified with him, you know. Which meant what?
It was, yeah, but it was a self-preservation. He wanted to live longer, and yeah, because he got
scared. He was like, I don't want to die, you know. Which, knowing, like, it's interesting because, okay, you're
hanging out with Jesus, and you know, you've already accepted him, but you're scared to die, even though
you know that you're going to go to heaven when your flesh dies. So, but it's still that being
in your skin, you know, being in your flesh, really, it still got to him. Because he's only human.
Yep, so Michaela, what can we learn from Apostle Philip? Well, we can learn to stand still and not
fall back from the Lord. We could choose to stand brave, bold, and courageous by his side. No matter
how things may occur in our lives, we must remind ourselves every day that we are never alone, and
he is with us through all things. In Isaiah chapter 41, verse 10, in the New King James Version,
it says, Fear not, for I am with you. Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you.
Yes, I will help you. I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. In Deuteronomy chapter 31,
verse 6, in the NKJV Bible, it says, Be strong and of good courage. Do not fear, nor be afraid of
them. For the Lord your God, he is the one who goes with you. He will not leave you, nor forsake
you. Yes, thank you, Father, for being with us. Yes, thank you, Lord. Everywhere, all the time.
Yes. Yes, thank you so much, Father God. Hallelujah. So, this has been Michaela and Gonzalo,
and we thank you for spending this time with us and learning about the apostles.
