Rockin' VW SUPER Beetles Sell BIG on Bring a Trailer Auction

hey guys Chris again classic vwbug oncom and in this video I wanted to go over with you a few auctions that cross the block I believe last week or the week before some surprising numbers that I saw out of super Beatles can you believe it super Beatles uh I never thought I'd see uh supers do this kind of money uh in this day and age but apparently they are and they are coming into their own and I pointed it out in the past I mean some of these supers that are 78 79s that have never been restored been in dealership since new hardly driven couple hundred miles on them maybe 1500 miles on them and they were doing 40 5060 Grand I think I even saw one go for $70,000 a 7978 Super Beetle fuel injected model which would have never thought so I'm going to go over a couple with you today and also show you some prospects of what's coming down the pike RM Auctions is coming up down here in Florida in Miami in the beginning of March and I want to show you a micrus that is crossing the block so let's get to it okay so first and foremost I wanted to show you here's bring a trailer again and uh this site has been coming into their own I've spoken about this in the past and you can see they do have here's the here are the Beatles that are for sale currently there's five live auctions and if you do take a look at the numbers um like I've spoken about in the past in the past couple weeks couple months rather um the market is is a little down I would say it's just kind of leveled out right now nothing crazy going on but if we scroll down here here are some of the past auctions uh that just ended recently so this one ended on the 13th of February 62 Beetle nice Beetle GF blue uh that's a really cool car and it it did 10 250 so 68 red beetle here 8600 a 70 convertible or 14,000 a 64 beetle with the ruby red and white walls only 165 so if you look at some of these numbers you know again they're I would say they're average they're maybe even a little below average to some respects but I'm going to show you a couple right now that did really well uh so this red 67 this did 21250 so pretty good there for sure um I like I said probably a year ago that car would have went for maybe 25 maybe high 20s that ruby red so you can scroll here go to bringatrailer.com just do a search for Volkswagen Beetle and they'll have results at the bottom towards the bottom of the page but they auction off a lot of Volkswagens on this website and I do think bring a trailer is you know really starting to dominate the scene I mean even giving Barrett Jackson and those big auction houses a run for their money so it's a good idea to come here and see what the market is truly bearing on these vehicles so the one Cars I wanted to uh show to you are these here is a 79 super be convertible that was restored um I do believe it was a Volkswagen color they're saying a minty green color if I go to uh Wolfsburg west.com into their color charts they did say that it is let me just get myself out of here it looks like it's maybe this River blue metallic it's tough Swatch to look at to see there I mean it's tough to say but that kind of looks close to what this vehicle is um if anyone wants to chime in on that you know please do so but beautiful car and it went for 30 grand a 79 Super Beetle Volkswagen I should have sold this car it was in Florida I wish it went down down to go see it in person and it was only in pompo Beach I mean that's only about a half an hour for me I totally miss seeing this car but um what you can see here is the very nice minty color now like I said even if it's not the original color it looks period it's got It's got a striking combo color combo and like I've said to a lot of people before as long as that Beetle looks really killer they're going to go for good money um this you know green piping or gray piping that they have here on the on the seats that would have never been true in 79 so but apparently the new buyer really didn't care too much about that the fact that the car looked really nice is what made this thing sell now they also converted it to carburation so they got rid of the fuel injection which could be problematic and we're working on a lot of fuel injected cars right now in my shop in New York and that's the stuff that's coming in now these are the cars that are coming into their own so um pretty interesting so it's even got AC unit on there and if we look underneath at least they're showing the VIN numbers here they have videos showcasing the car but 30 grand I mean I'm seeing some 60s models convertible struggling even to get that which is uh to me they're more valuable so you got the right bit I mean look at even the Chrome is off the hood here it's missing a clip so little things you know you can spot but very pretty car and that's pretty much why it most likely sold it's pretty definitely Florida car summer weather you know Springtime California car that kind of thing got a new top so it had a fresh restoration so that's appealing super convertible 30 grand restored next one I wanted to show you was this one a 74 sunroof with quote unquote original 23,000 original miles now sold for over $31,000 so 31750 and this is a you know just a sunroof steel sunroof Super Beetle orange color very common black interior very common and they're claiming it was all original the paint looks spectacular on it in these photos now I know it's in a studio so that helps of course uh with the making the car pop and giving it that appeal you know this is like magazine esque photos that we're seeing here now the only problem we have of course is with these low mileage cars they got to have the documentation to back that up I mean I get people tell me all all the time oh I got a 18,000 true mile car 12,000 true mile car do you have documentation to back that up no not really and you know but the engine was rebuilt and you know did have a respray at some time I'm like all right hold on you know why was the engine rebuilt for 18,000 miles 20 something Thousand Miles you know so I mean this car looks spectacular as as it sits in these pictures the interior does look very original and and kind of untouched the only question I came across was you know even here like you can see like there's no overspray on the on those apron plugs and the uh the stop here the bumper here for when the hood comes down a lot of times those are painted over so if you had any question about paint the other question I had was you know these Fender beads I know they did have the bodyc colored Fender beads during the 60s but I thought and correct me if I'm wrong guys because I do know guys that are in the the Volkswagen industry that work during this time period i pretty sure by the 70s I even thought by 6869 but by the 70s this beating went back to black so that was um my one question if anyone wants to chime in on that one leave it in the comments section below um and I also see here the heat boxes here are painted a different color than probably what they would have been painted it would have been more like that Ford gray look this looks silver like a metallic silver uh unless that was painted um the color from from Factory so they have nice videos here um the photo shoot was really nice some pictures here I'll point out so people are going out of their way here to do good photos for bring a trailer because it's become very competitive and they know the market is really nice right now on bring a trailer and things are selling well if you present it correctly so again the only question I have was with those Fender beads so if anyone wants to chime in on that but I want to show you a few photos here that they pointed out and you guys can go and see this car it's in it should be in the um results section so 74 73 they said this was 74 okay so last of the carburated engine 75 they went to fuel injection this has a sunroof and a wind deflector uh correct steel silver Wheels the thin white wall nice car but jeeper I mean over 30 grand for a super it's it's uh rocking my brain so if you guys got a Superman hold on to them and uh things are looking pretty good because they're coming into their own okay so a shot like this this is more of a stylized shot you know you got dark you got a completely dark side on the driver's side right uh yes that looks great for this looks great for a magazine this looks great for a video uh but is it good for selling um yes it's stylized it looks cool it looks great right in the picture but I want to I want the car to be represented correctly now really to me this lighting is it's Studio lighting I'd rather see sunlight lighting natural light because that's when we're mostly going to be seeing these vehicles right when they're in natural light so couple uh just little comments on my end there really far shot there again more of a stylized Volkswagen commercial shot again see super dark I don't know do you want that if I'm looking to buy the car I'm looking to plunk down 30 grand um but I think a lot of people eat this up and it brings it probably looks like oh you you put a lot of time and effort into these photos you know it's got to be legit it's got to be real so yeah that's dark so certain shots like that I don't know yeah okay and look totally different coloring right there look how nice and bright it is right there and then it gets dark so but just wanted to show you that um 30 grand over $30,000 for a 74 Super Beetle supposedly 23,000 original miles and that was the color swatch so here was the next car I wanted to show you this is RM soube they are coming to Miami with their auction and they got this 61 Microbus type 2 Deluxe 23 window micrus of course it's got the rag top it screams 60s it just screams the counterculture the hippies all that stuff and look at what they are saying in the book what it's going to go for $150 to $200,000 so those bad boys are still bringing in six figures and I've seen it firsthand a few years ago bus like this went for 26 something thousand 262,000 at bar Jackson and uh just a couple guys bidding back and forth so yep so Market in general like I said it's taken a little bit of dip but overall I mean there still look at this is still bringing in that's crazy money you know it's it's to to many people that's just crazy but you know it's what it is so I hope you like that short video I just wanted to point out a couple things of of course these Super Beetle is coming into their own now guys right I mean they're we're in 2024 so you're talking a 74 beetle is 50 years old and when they hit that 50e Mark I feel things start to change and the market Chang just for that year model it just starts to go up so if you want to relive your youth start saving your pennies and you might have to start looking a little bit later maybe at 75 76 77 something like that but uh those super beetles are really coming into own so love to hear your
