Los Angeles Dodgers 2024 Spring Training sportsnet LA interview
Betts will play primarily in second base this season. He also talks about being teammates with Shohei Ohtani and how he spent the offseason.
I do not own this.
it is exciting um little change of pace
uh but we'll see how it goes you know uh
and I haven't trained to prepare at to
be a second baseman in so long so I had
to kind of jog some of those memories
but uh we should be all right is it easy
to jog those memories does it come back
to you like they say riding a bicycle or
at this level the big league level is a
little bit more difficult than that I
would say it's definitely a little bit
more difficult at that but the
principles all the same and uh we'll
have fun with I got Freddy next to me uh
Gavin um migy row I mean you know we got
we got a really uh really good group of
guys that'll make it fun for me I you're
so naturally good at everything you do I
can't imagine you really struggling
making the transition back to second
base but you've talked about this you
would like to actually win a go glove at
second base I don't think anybody's
everever won six go gloves in right
field then move to the infield in one
one there's got to be a first for
everything so uh that's that's what I'm
trying to do when you look at adding
show he Otani to this lineup and you
look just at the top three I mean the
the lineup is stacked from top to bottom
but what do you think about the
potential just of the first three guys
with yourself Freddy and now sh there's
a lot of potential there I mean you know
there's uh it should be a lot of fun um
you know again we just got to go play
make sure we take care of our business
and um we'll see uh kind of the
fireworks that that that happen but uh
you know I'm super excited really just
to to see the legend of shi you know um
up up close and personal yeah you had a
chance to maybe see him at All-Star
games in the past or when you guys
played against the Angels but what are
some of your initial impressions of show
now as a teammate with the doct he's
he's just super chill you know he goes
about his business take care takes care
of his business and uh I haven't had a
whole lot of interaction just yet I
think U you know closer to the season
when routines are you know really in
order and whatnot uh I'll get to
interact with him a little more but I
don't see him very you know right now
it's hard to it's hard to say cuz you
know he's taking care of his business
and I'm taking care of mine so we
haven't crossed paths a whole lot yet
when you hear the talk out there people
upset that the Dodgers signed shohi and
Yamamoto and were able to get glass now
and teoscar Hernandez and everybody that
was already here to begin with and oh
there's this new evil empire on the west
coast does it make you chuckle a little
bit do you Embrace what is being said
out there about this Dodger team I mean
yeah I think you have to um you know
that's uh that's why you sign with the
Dodgers cuz you uh get you're going to
get a chance to win each and every year
and they gave us a really good chance um
obviously like I said we got to go play
but uh you know you just embrace it you
know there's nothing really you can do
you know those are that you know things
on the outside that they that are put up
put on us and so I mean what do you do
there's nothing nothing we can do I
imagine it's all fun during the
offseason to to be a dad maybe on a
different level than you are during the
regular season in fact when they had the
MVP announcement you were doing
interviews from your car while you were
waiting in line to pick up kids at
school what is mooki the dad like during
the offseason man
uh this year was a lot you know we had
my son he's 10 months now um but you
know going through he was you know seven
eight nine months and really just kind
of spending time with him um we had him
during or during the season so uh my my
daughter I had during the offseason so I
really got to spend you know first early
months with her my son I had during the
season so I really didn't get to spend a
whole lot of time with him during the
season so I try to make it up uh through
the offseason and just a lot of taking
my little girl to school picking her up
from school and going going on little on
play dates who would who would think
thing now you wake up on Saturday
morning you go on play dates with a
whole bunch of kids and whatnot so uh
it's fun though it's fun
