Hey Tom here, in this video, I share with you 3 need-to-do stick and knife drills from Filipino Martial Arts. Take your time with these. Go slow and have fun!
welcome back collie Warriors to the
colli center YouTube channel today we're
looking at the all powerful and
versatile aspa Yaga Training Method I'm
tom head coach here at col Center some
of you have seen me on the channel
before and some of you are training with
me inste of our online school at
center.com whether you're a total
beginner or you're a seasoned veteran of
asaia Daga I hope this drill these
drills we're going to cover are really
going to help you skill up into your K
performance let's train all right my
friends first one is going to be the
open four or our X striking we be
integrating the high jab and also the
low jab with the training knife make
sure this is with a training knife not
with a real knife so we come out from
here we're in our open position on the
DGA we want to open the thumb at the
chest the only two positions we're going
to work in this video are going to be at
the chest where the edge is out and the
tip is away at 45° thumb is open at
chamber
second position you're going to see is
where the left hand will slide to the
hip where the thumb is open it should be
right at the belt line so you have
clearance don't leave it low and don't
point the tip down we want to keep it
out and the tip away where we keep it at
the plexus okay from here we have the X
striking where we go one two
jab 3 4 Low jab so the knife is going to
transition from plexus to hip hip back
back to plexus that way we don't run
into that so we come out one two see out
slides back jab three four low jab one
two jab three four low
jab little pointer on the
jabbing make sure the tip is up on the
high jab the tip is low on the low jab
we want want Targets in mind the jabbing
High Line we usually Target the eyes and
we're flicking that with the flat of the
blade and the corner of the blade as a
very powerful attack on the lowline
Striking we want to Target primarily to
the groin where we are jabbing with a
tip facing down toward the Earth High
Line jab up to the eyes low line down to
the groin there's to the
eyes and then down
to the
groin drill number two is the circular
two so now we're working with the broken
striking and also the circular striking
quick pointer on this other than
absolutely know where your knife is at
all times either in first position or in
second position make sure on the
circular to that this is covering the
the eyes and make sure that you're
moving it from the shoulder and a little
bit from the elbow that way we have a
versatile strike this can turn into a
lot of different combinations of of
striking as well you can even come into
the wies the circular is so powerful so
just keep that in mind keep that a very
wide circular two and Broad for coverage
and versatility let's take a look at it
open position Daga at the plexus have
the stick in the three position next to
the
we strike the three broken four you see
how the Dogg is switched to the hip to
get out of the way now we go circular
two thrust this thrust is a transition
to get us to the backhand side I come
out with a second two and then I jab up
to the eyes setting that up I bring it
back to the the plexus and then the
stick is at the hip three slides to the
hip completely out of the way broken
four circular two thrust
two jab and then we're
back one
more all right adding some footwork that
way we can get a little bit of movement
forward and a little bit of movement
back on the center start off in the open
position strike the three
broken four now as you strike the
circular two with the thrust pass with
the left foot forward that way you're
attacking with that Daga bring it back
three broken four circular two two and
Jab it takes a little bit to get it
coordinated that's
okay keep that thrust high so the jab
comes out
High one
more all right so now we play with our
open striking we played with our broken
and circular striking let's see how
we're now in drill three going to attack
the

three drill number three is our most
technical let's smash this and knock
this out of the park and Crush our espa
Daga training today we're going to start
working the broken striking the
integration of the jab and our fluid
striking for our last combination where
we attack the Dogg hand let's do it
facing the camera first rest strike the
one broken two we're bring the tip down
away as we bring the high jab on top now
this is different than the umbrella if
we on umbrella the umbrella will be up
top raising above the head as a
countering strike if you you want to
learn more about umbrellas and counter
offense in Filipino martial arts check
out our double stick combinations video
where we go over the umbrella into the
deflections and all the other counter
offenses that Filipino martial arts has
to offer check out those videos on our
channel for this one we want the Dogg on
top though so we have one broken tip
goes down away doaga attacks gets a
little bit more technical here on the
Dogg hand we're going to pinch their
wrist and clip secure that hold that as
we thrust to the back of the neck on a
high forehand thrust we bring it back up
real slow one
two
three four back up from here if we want
to do a little bit of movement with it
got one two 3 four and back one two
three capture four and back we can add a
cross step here on that thrust that way
were flanking our opponent you attack up
the center push on that broken two
attack the dgg up cross step on the
thrust we bring it back one 2 three 4
and back one two three four and back
nice and slow with the
footwork one two three
four and back this one gets a little bit
more technical
but I know you'll get it for drill
number
three that's it colie Warriors for our
spotty Daga session together we've
carved out some time to hone our martial
arts skills and our busy schedules to
learn something new develop coordination
