Hi there! Today we are going to walk through the Italian town "Manarola", which belongs to the five lands of "Cinque Terre".
On this tour we will see the most interesting points of the town and learn about its history.
Today, we are going to walk around the small town.
We will see the church of San Lorenzo, and we will go through the entire center of the town until we reach the marine area, where people bathe and jump into the water from the top of the rocks.
We will reach the highest part of Manarola to see the panoramic views and we will end up immersing ourselves inside these crystalline waters of the Cinque Terre.
Hello, my friend. Today we're going to leave the van here and we're going to visit "Manarola." I'm glad you're joining me on this stroll.
It's difficult to access Cinque Terre by car, but we have found this peaceful place that is located about a 20-minute walk from "Manarola." So let's start our way.
This dirt path is great for letting the dogs roam freely, and they really enjoy it!
We are in the middle of the mountains, and this ancient path has been used for many years to descend the entire valley to the coast.
Both the ground and the walls are made of stones... How old do you think this path must be?
We're about to arrive, and this entire area is a paid parking zone.
Welcome to Manarola!
It's almost 11 in the morning, and this is a great time to enjoy this place. There are tourists, but it's not overcrowded yet.
Manarola is one of the five villages that make up the famous Cinque Terre. It could be said that it is the most famous one.
It gets quite hot in the summer, but luckily, there are many cold water fountains around to cool off.
Look at this soccer goal! Here, young children play in the street at dusk...
This square was built in homage to Pope Innocent IV, who was elected Pope in 1243.
Nowadays, it is a popular spot for both tourists and locals due to its stunning views.
Manarola is part of the Cinque Terre National Park, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Have you noticed the shape of the mountains?
In this square, we also find the Church of San Lorenzo. Let's take a look inside and see what we find...
The sign asks us to make a donation to contribute to the restoration of the church itself, as it holds sentimental value for the residents.
The Church of San Lorenzo has a strong connection with the sea. During the festival of San Lorenzo, a procession takes place where the statue of the saint is carried by boat from the sea to the church, followed by fishermen and locals.
Here you can breathe an atmosphere of tranquility and serenity. It is a good place to have a moment of peace and reflection. And now let's continue our walk!
The stepped shape of the mountains is due to the planting of vineyards. Manarola is known for the production of Sciacchetrà wine, a sweet dessert wine unique to the region.
It is made from local grapes, and its distinctive flavor is attributed to the particular growing conditions on the steep terraces of Cinque Terre.
These ancient containers were used for making and storing the wine of this land.
It's beautiful to see how people appreciate these objects and keep them as valuable decorations in their gardens.
Have you noticed the curious way of opening windows in Italy?
If you look up there you will see people walking up the mountain, and there is a path to reach the other lands on foot. Although it is a path that has an entrance fee.
In Manarola, the local dialect spoken is called "manarolese," which differs from standard Italian in its softer and melodic pronunciation.
They also use unique expressions. It is a dialect influenced by French and is used in daily life and informal interactions among the residents of Manarola.
We can still see this preserved mill, which was important for daily life in the past.
The population of Manarola is around 400 to 500 residents. However, many tourists rent apartments to live in Manarola for a few days.
Can you imagine how lovely it must be to inhabit one of these ancient houses for a few days?
In this store, you can find hiking materials because the Cinque Terre is connected through a long dirt trail that allows visitors to explore the area on foot.
Hiking is one of the activities you can enjoy in this natural park.
Italy is famous for its pasta and pizza. They are iconic products, and you can find a wide variety of them in many places.
Let's go!
This is an important point in the village. The train station. About 100 meters through this tunnel, we'll find the train that can take us to visit the Cinque Terre.
The price for a 2-day ticket is 33€ per person, and if we want to travel with dogs, they also need a ticket, which costs 5€ per trip.
Here we have a sample of the seabed of Manarola, and later we will also verify it ourselves.
Have you seen how amazing it is? The boats are stored right on the main street of the village! They are part of the beauty of Manarola.
We are about to reach the sea...
Here, some boats also arrive to take tourists on tours through the Cinque Terre via the sea.
In Italy, it is challenging to find sandy beaches. That's why this ramp and the rocks are highly valued for enjoying some sun and sea, just like the friendly seals do.
Now we're going to find a good vantage point to see the famous view of Manarola.
It's very cool to look at this landscape in this impressive natural environment!
Over there, in the distance, is a small beach where we'll go for a swim after our walk. It has a seabed full of fish! But that will be a bit later.
In this area, there is a bar, a picnic area, a playground for children, and also a restroom facility.
Manarola is small and straightforward to explore. Wherever we go, there are always beautiful views to enjoy.
Some people use cacti to leave messages.
The origins of Manarola date back to the Roman era. Archaeological remains have been found that date back over 2,000 years.
Manarola and Cinque Terre have faced the challenge of floods and landslides throughout their history.
These natural events have required restoration and reconstruction efforts from the local community.
Fishing and agriculture were the main economic activities in the past in Manarola, but now, tourism has become a primary source of income for the village.
Cinque Terre is mostly car-free. Due to their steep topography and narrow streets, vehicle access has been restricted, creating a peaceful and pedestrian-friendly environment in each village.
We are climbing alongside the houses of the residents of Manarola to reach the highest part on the other side of the village.
From here, we can see the interior of the train station. The train is undoubtedly the most convenient and fastest method of transportation to get around the Cinque Terre.
These streets are picturesque and lively. Many people are encouraged to come up here to discover all these authentic Italian corners.
This lady who is coming is a superheroine who doesn't want to reveal her identity.
One of the peculiarities of this village is the brightly colored houses painted in pastel tones such as pink, yellow, orange, and green.
However, if we stroll through different coastal towns in Italy, we will see that almost all the houses have the same style.
Don't forget to leave a LIKE 💗👍 is very IMPORTANT for us! 🙌😮✨
The grape harvest in the vineyards of Manarola is primarily done manually. Due to the difficulty of accessing the terraced fields, grape growers work carefully to hand-pick the grapes, ensuring precise selection and the highest quality.
