this 1956 Volkswagen Beetle a Canadian
standard ragtop Beetle slammed down this
past week on bring a trailer for over
$50,000 guys pretty damn good price for
that yeah you probably could not still
restore that car for that money uh maybe
if you did it yourself that is a
possibility uh but I wanted to Showcase
this vehicle today along with another
vehicle that's also on bringer trailer
right now that's uh got a little bit of
a conversation going on and that is this
66
Volkswagen uh the issue they have here
with this car is is that it's Brazilian
and they really don't state that in the
title nor do they really state that in
the
description before we get to the 66
let's go back to the
56 and what's really funny about this
car is that it's a beautiful piece no
question about it uh it is a standard at
first I thought there was something up
with the car they were showing some
standard features but not all standard
features now in some
countries when you say
standard there is no bright work on the
body so you got no trim the hub caps and
the rims would be pretty much the color
of the vehicle along with the chrome
bumpers they also would be the color of
the vehicle so very you know basic
looking
Volkswagen this one is a Canadian
standard so the Canadian standards
actually had a little more bright work
going on uh to my understanding uh I did
have a Canadian standard at one point in
my collection and now that I look back
at that they Al it did have Deluxe some
Deluxe features on it but we'll go
through the car and I'll show you
quickly
um why this car probably did
well uh topnotch restoration no doubt
about it color combination really nice
that's one thing about the car is
probably uh the car pops when you open
those doors you see what's going on on
the
inside and there you have it and I've
said this before in the past that you
know when you have a a color contrast
going on with your Volkswagen I always
do color contrast you know if you have a
cool outside you got a warm inside or
vice versa and when you do that it gives
the vehicle that so-called pop and
Volkswagens because they are a cartoony
looking vehicle to in in my opinion when
you go the pop
route these cars attract eyes I can't
tell you how many times I go to car
shows even high-end car shows and where
there's Maseratis pulling up and there's
Ferraris and Bugattis and
duesenbergs all cars that are pretty
much out of reach for the common man and
I show up in my Volkswagen wagons and
part of my French it's literally like
flies on
where people start walking over to
your vehicle here to your Beetle and why
do they do that well because the beetle
the beetle is relatable it is has got
such history the common man had it the
stories behind the car so this
vehicle uh now what's really funny is
that I mean the the restoration is
beautiful correct engine all the engine
components uh have the correct features
on it it's got the correct Canadian uh
badge here on the rear passenger fender
the Insignia there and the black three
spoke spe uh steering wheel is the is
the giveaway for standard along with uh
the black knobs on the and the black uh
buffers on the the window crank and the
door handle there's no piping the piping
is also Alo the same color as the seat
along with no piping around the door
panel and also really no uh stitching on
the bottoms and faces of the seats so
that's kind of a giveaway
there so if we scroll down some more
this is absolutely beautiful now you
know by Factory the floor pans were
never this
glossy uh I have clients that you know
they can go either way with this some
clients want a really shiny glossy
undercarriage and some want more of the
satin matte
look uh these are
probably painted I would think in a high
gloss I mean you can get these
powdercoated as well in high gloss so
that is a possibility but this is way
more than what the factory did you can
eat off the bottom of that that's very
attractive to some people some people I
deal with they just want a truck bed
headliner on their floor pans which will
prevent from Rock chips if you're going
to be driving the car and it also does
some insulation as well to a little bit
of sound deadening for
you so now here's what's really funny
they're calling it a 58 Beetle here in
the video so the dealer that bought
this you know that's I guess the one
thing with the dealers they don't know
every car of course they dealing with a
lot of different cars so they're not
so-called experts on particular models
so he completely got this wrong and
called this a 58 I mean a dead giveaway
for 58 Beetle as you guys should know
once it hit 58 the rear back window went
from oval to square uh you know the
oval that you see here I mean that's
very really should know something like
that um for this this video so you have
even a discrepancy in the ad which is
really funny I thought you know so uh I
don't know but beautiful color I don't
know if that's a true color it might be
it might be that diamond gray
or maybe Nile not Nile Bay maybe it's
probably a polar
silver
so most likely polar silver there so
look on the Swatch yeah that kind of
looks like it so
now I was under the impression too
that you know the standard models have
metallic uh I wasn't under that
impression if anybody wants to correct
me on that uh leave it in the comments
section below I pretty much thought that
standard models pretty much had a flat
color but very pretty car and slammed
down for 50 over
$50,000
now just about a month or so ago I was
is highlighting this
53 that crossed the Barett Jackson block
now to me a
53 is still more
rare than a 56 even though that is I
mean a Canadian standard
ragtop that's pretty rare as well I mean
where you it's tough to find something
like that but I still believe a 53 in my
eyes is more
valuable and this car slam down at
Barett Jackson for
50,000 so both cars went for pretty much
around the same price when I do feel
like this 53 should have went for more
for sure um again could have been timing
it's the auction or is it just that
bring a trailer is kicking ass uh
they're really doing very very well you
got a lot of people on here now and if
you know you ever wanted to sell
something I mean I would I would
consider them uh just because whatever
kind of car you have really um so very
interesting to see that this car did
very well here uh this 56 um pretty car
nice color
combination I definitely like that uh
the three-spoke wheel is just
killer that is just a killer wheel I
mean even if you wasn't true to your car
and you wanted to put it on it it it
really looks sweet I mean that's an ex
killer accessory there if you wanted to
put onto a deluxe model Beetle uh so I
don't know if anyone wants to chime in
if this car is a true standard or not or
what did he just make it look standard
um that's the that's a question I have
so part of the standard models too is
that they don't do a headliner all
throughout the inner cabin of a beetle
so uh if you had a a hard top
Beetle um it would just be the Center
Square section that would get the
headliner around the back window and
such you would not get that but uh they
got the correct German Square weave
carpet here's the rare uh little ashtray
that they had on the shifters back then
and the shifters were also like painted
black so uh the steering column also
painted black on a standard
model now I had a standard 53 at one
time and the really cool thing about
that was that had cable brakes not
hydraulic brakes and double
clutch and the cable brakes actually
weren't bad I mean I'll be honest it was
very interesting to drive that uh I did
not see any fault uh in that and and any
sort of you know I mean maybe he's less
failing with those I tell you these
wheel cylinders that are on the market
today uh that are failing very
quickly but you know they got all the
characteristics here to make this all
look right the right distributor here
with the vacuum advance on it it's got
all the right features for sure
so just wanted to point this out to you
guys I mean it was a uh a really good uh
find on auction um you know I get these
updates on a weekly basis with what cars
cross The Auction Block so it's always
good to watch the market so um I'll say
it again you know it's still alive and
well um like I said we we did see a dip
a little bit uh but
overall um it's maybe it's kicking right
back around again so if you read the
comments here apparently this was
restored by
this fella I
think and he bought it back I think he
regretted selling it kind of like what
I've been talking about over these past
these past few years um I wish I had
some of the cars back that I restored I
mean gosh they just some of these cars
just hit home with you guys and you know
when you remember the Blood Sweat and
Tears that you put into them the cursing
and the the throwing of tools maybe but
in the end when the car is all
finished uh it turns out to be a
beautiful piece uh so uh 56 standard
really nice color nice combination of
course I love White Walls I thought it
would look good with white walls but
again it's a standard model probably
would not be the option to choose when
you're going for a standard model
because you're trying to keep cost down
if you are the customer going into the
dealership correct
so very nice car great presentation this
is how you present and if you want to
sell well this is how you do it now I I
did notice this is a uh Square rear
Square U rack top so you got rounded
Corners in the front and square in the
rear so this is an early 56 once they
went to uh once they started moving
along 56 then they got rid of the square
uh rear on they head on the
top if I can find a shot of the top um
and then they went back and then they
went round eventually on all four
corners so this is actually that's
another rare piece about this car is
that you have uh you know square corners
in the back and round in the
front so that's pretty interesting so
yeah it is a rare car for sure um a
standard model very cool in in general
in the past I haven't seen standard
models do you know super well uh just
because a lot of them they look kind of
uh boring and dull you know they don't
have the bling they don't have the pop
you know even like you know getting a
badge I don't even believe the badge was
on a standard model so or the like I
said any of the bright work so most
people who want a beetle they want the
bright work they want the the contrast
and they want the
pop but uh congratulations to this this
is a good sale um maybe last year the
year before maybe would have did a
little bit more money I don't know uh
just speculating really I'm just uh
looking at things how things are going
lately but you know again if you were to
hire someone to restore this to this
caliber I mean guys in today's day
you're you're 80 to 100
Grand so uh 50 Grand is a pretty good
deal if you bought this
uh pretty pretty cool but I definitely
thought the 53 here with the metallic
blue uh should have did a little bit
better uh but you know
again things uh you know things are
mysterious sometimes the you got to just
take them to the right auction houses or
the timing has to be right so uh now
let's get to the 66 real
quick um I just got this forwarded to me
by a friend of mine just questioning
this my name actually popped up in the
comments section too so they're saying
66 now some people are asking me is it
worth it to buy a Brazilian
Beetle h i mean as time goes on if the
real Beetle the old you know the real
Beetle that came out of the German
Factory starts going you know getting
Out Of Reach which a lot of them are and
even the type twos the micr buses
they're getting out of reach for to many
of the common buyer just somebody that
wants to have a goodlook car a good-look
Volkswagen to toodle around with and
they're getting Out Of Reach they
getting it to the six figure marks or
we're getting close to 100,000 something
like that the Brazilian option might be
your option because they're always
they're worth less and they're a little
more affordable
uh so looking at the 66 they say it's a
66
but someone mentioned down here that
it's a
68 now I did say to you guys in the past
that a 70s something looking Beetle from
Brazil would look like a 66 or 65 you
know they were late they were slower on
the characteristics and the
transitioning that the American Market
had so you still had low back seats you
still had a hard Dash so you still had
the characteristics of the you know pr67
Beatles on a 70 model bug but always the
dead giveaway to me with a Brazilian
model is the horn
button um if you see this horn button
it's not the wolburg crest it's their
their Brazilian Crest and usually if you
look at the fuel gauge it says Gasolina
on it uh and also their speedometer
would be in kilometers so you know
there's some quirky things about the
Brazilian model that's just a little off
from the American bound or german-made
uh factory made
Beetle so something to keep an eye on
there uh they like I said they are
saying this car is a 66 but somebody did
mention below that it's a
68 but this car also looks lowered in
the back there's something up with the
rear uh but right now this car is around
I don't know around 10 grand I'm missing
the emblem in the back
Hood it's got the an aftermarket bumper
set you know cuz it's got the grommets
on the end of the towel
bars yeah see the car is really sagging
in the
rear uh so I don't know what's up if
they have something lowered here they
have a lowering kit or something wof I
don't know to me that's I don't like
messing with the rear end like
that but you know again this car is at
10 grand and if it stayed around there I
mean yeah that's not kind of affordable
and if you go driving around and you
know most people are just not going to
care you know what year it is or where
it came from you know as long as it
looks like a cute bug so these are your
options here but I just wanted to point
this car out this is still live I'm
bring a trailer right now as of this
week it's uh SE it's February 29th
2024 and let me see how much time this
car's got got so it's got another four
days and it's currently at
$10,000 so Brazilian options are out
there that are a little more affordable
for you guys so all right that's a quick
video I hope you enjoyed that I was
definitely intrigued by this 56 oval rag
uh Canadian standard rag top Beetle
which is pretty rare these days uh to
find something like that to fit your
fancy and uh all right guys leave uh
comments in the comments section below
love to hear what you guys think I'll
see you
later
