Hello everyone!
Welcome back to my channel.
In today's video we're going to be talking about some surprising symptoms of diabetes
that can show up at night.
Diabetes is super common these days, but most people don't realize that it can cause some
strange symptoms while you're sleeping.
If you experience any of these nighttime warning signs, it could mean your blood sugar is out
of whack.
So make sure to watch until the end because this could save your life!
Alright, let's get into it.
First up - bad dreams and nightmares.
Studies show that diabetics are way more likely to have frequent nightmares and episodes of
night terrors.
One reason is that diabetes affects serotonin levels in the brain which helps regulate sleep.
So if you're someone who has crazy dreams every night, or you wake up in a cold sweat
from nightmares a few times a week, it could be a red flag for diabetes.
Let me know in the comments if this is happening to you lately!
Next, restless leg syndrome.
This is when you get tingly or aching sensations in your legs when you're trying to sleep.
It makes you feel like you constantly have to move your legs around.
This is actually a symptom of diabetic neuropathy which is nerve damage caused by high blood
sugar.
So if you can't sleep because your legs won't stop tingling or aching no matter how much
you move them, definite sign that you should get your blood sugar tested.
Don't ignore the restless legs!
Sleep apnea is another big one.
Sleep apnea causes you to stop breathing repeatedly while you sleep.
It turns out diabetics are way more likely to have sleep apnea.
And vice versa - people with sleep apnea often develop diabetes down the line.
When you stop breathing during the night, it causes your blood oxygen levels to drop.
And this stress on your body releases hormones that can cause insulin resistance and spike
your blood sugar.
So if you or your partner notices that you snore or stop breathing a lot at night, get
checked for sleep apnea as soon as possible.
Alright next up is cramps and charley horses.
The high blood sugar levels caused by diabetes can lead to more leg, foot and muscle cramps
while you're sleeping.
The medical term for these muscle spasms is nocturnal cramps.
So if you're someone who gets painful leg cramps that jolt you awake out of a dead sleep,
it could be from undiagnosed diabetes causing issues with your blood circulation.
Don't ignore those middle of the night leg cramps and foot cramps!
And finally, we've got excessive peeing at night.
This goes hand in hand with drinking a ton of water before bed and still feeling thirsty.
When your blood sugar is high, your body tries to flush out the excess sugar through your
urine.
This makes you pee more frequently around the clock, even waking you up in the middle
of the night.
So if you're peeing 3, 4 or 5 times a night, and guzzling water before bed, this is a telltale
sign of diabetes.
Alright, so those are some of the strange diabetes symptoms that can strike at night
while you're sleeping.
Now, here are some daytime symptoms to watch out for as well:
Being excessively thirsty and drinking tons of water is a big one.
If you feel like you just can't quench your thirst no matter how much you drink, it could
mean your blood sugar is too high.
Frequent urination goes along with this of course.
When you drink more, you pee more.
So peeing every hour or less is a red flag.
Sudden vision changes like blurry vision can also be a sign of diabetes.
High blood sugar fluid can cause swelling in the eyes and affect your ability to focus.
Slow healing of cuts and wounds can happen because diabetes affects circulation and blood
flow.
So notice if cuts are taking way longer to heal than normal.
Extreme fatigue or feeling run down and weak all the time can be caused by cells not getting
enough glucose for energy.
And yeast infections and urinary tract infections happen more often when blood sugar is elevated.
The high sugar feeds infection causing bacteria.
So in summary, keep an eye out for both the strange nighttime symptoms as well as the
common daytime ones.
Catching diabetes early is crucial to reversing it and avoiding the nasty complications like
nerve damage, vision loss and heart disease.
If you are regularly experiencing several of these warning signs, I recommend you get
your blood sugar tested.
Getting your blood glucose levels checked is crucial if you are noticing multiple symptoms
of high blood sugar.
The key is to catch diabetes early before it can progress and cause more serious complications.
Even if it ends up not being diabetes, it's important to find out what's causing these
disruptive nighttime symptoms and get to the bottom of any potential underlying health
issues.
The good news is diabetes is very manageable these days as long as it's caught early.
Through a combination of lifestyle changes like diet, exercise and sleep habits, you
can live a totally normal life with diabetes.
But you have to be vigilant with checking blood sugar, following your treatment plan,
exercising and eating healthy to keep it under control.
I'll be making more videos on natural treatments for diabetes you can do from home to help
out.
There are many options available beyond just medications.
The key is early detection and working with your doctor to find the right treatment approach
for your unique situation.
With proper management, diabetes doesn't have to control your life.
Alright, that wraps up this video on the weird diabetes symptoms that can strike at night
while you sleep!
