Hello, my name is John. And in this video I am going
to talk to you about our
15-day budget for Costa Rica.
We recently returned from a trip to Costa Rica for
a couple of weeks and the truth is that it has
been one of the best trips I have ever
taken. Until now, as I have repeated
many times, I have made several videos
on tips from Costa Rica,
car rental, clothes to
carry, and a lot of things, and in this one
you have all of that in the
playlist that I leave below. in the
comments as well as all the
day-to-day blogs of the trip in case you are
interested and here I want to tell you about the
budget we had and the
general expenses of what the trip to
Costa Rica cost us for about two weeks in case
Well Well, yes, you are going to have a more
or less similar trip, but to give you
an idea, I want to make it clear to begin with
that on our trip, it was quite normal
in that it was a luxury trip,
going to the best hotels, taking the
car on better car, eat the best
restaurants, nor was it a
super wasteful trip to save as much as possible,
instead of going by car, go and move by
bus, stay, as I know,
in tents and eat at the
supermarket, it has not been a trip in the
middle, the first thing It's the flights if you are going
to travel obviously This is going to depend
a lot from where you travel to Costa
Rica Because if you travel from Panama it
will cost you 5 dollars but if you go from
Europe or places like that it will be much
more expensive so well it depends a lot
from where you travel from In our case we
went from Spain, we took a round trip to
Spain and Costa Rica with a direct flight
with Iberia and the prices, to give you
an idea, were between
700 and 1000 euros, depending a little on the
advance notice and the time of year.
If you are going to travel, you can still
find it. Even a little cheaper, you
can still find it for up to 600
round trip. I am talking above all about
direct trips. Obviously, if you make two
stops and it takes you 47 hours to arrive,
you may find it for 500 or so.
But the Normally, that will be between
600 and 1000 euros around there, and if you go from
today to tomorrow, it can obviously
go up to 1200. But the normal thing should
be somewhere around there. I'm talking to you with
checked suitcases included, food on the plane,
the car in what is the renting the
vehicle for a couple of weeks the same
obviously depends on the
rental company the advance notice the type of
vehicle we took a car that
was a minivan it was not a 4x4 but
it was more than a normal car and for a
couple of weeks they were around about
800 euros more apart from the insurance, the insurance
was taken separately. This is what I
tell you about the tips for driving through
Costa Rica, that there the insurance was taken
separately because it was much cheaper
and it was around 45 or 50 euros for
these two weeks and Since we were two
people, well, the car plus the insurance did not
come out to about 450 or so euros per
person, then the hotels, I say hotels,
but really a hotel, a hotel, I don't know if there were
any, practically all of them were more
like accommodations because many were
like cabins, bungalows, and well, everything. type
of accommodation more nature-based, not
as if it were a city but also good
to give you an idea, the
accommodations are cheaper than
other other things in the country because well,
Costa Rica in general is expensive a trip to
Costa Rica but for example the hotels
Well, the average
hotels in which we
stayed were not so bad, I'll tell you that in cabins,
bungalows, some with air conditioning
and such are good, practically all of them
had a private bathroom, all in good
condition, some with breakfast
included, the prices were around
35 40 and up to 60 euros more or less per
night but normal it was about 35-50 euros
per night And then Well, if
two people go, it obviously lowers
the cost quite a bit. The most expensive hotel
we stayed in was the arena at the
observatory and the which is in the
Arenal area. And this is because, well, it was a
whim that we wanted, it was the
main hotel that I
wanted to stay in. For me, it is one of the best
hotels in Costa Rica and within that,
for me it was one of the Better, it's quite
economical In my opinion Because it was
160 euros per night it could be more expensive
depending on how you get it and the type of
room And so on But for everything it
offers it was like The Little Luxury of the
trip in total per person, two
people going It was about 25 euros per night on
average. Another point are the tickets.
During the trip through Costa Rica,
you will visit several national parks or
reserves that have an associated ticket
and some of them have a
fairly high price for what should be a
national park.
Poás Volcano National about 33 euros more or
less Tortuguero National Park
is also 33 La Fortuna Falls
are also around there about 34 euros
Tenorio Volcano National is about 26
Balla Marine National Park is a little
cheaper, it's 6 euros Although if you go
From I think it's 5 in the
afternoon they let you enter
the Naujaka Falls for free until nightfall, about
25-26 euros. And then, as you can see, there are
some that are more expensive than others, for example,
the Cahuita National Park, which is
managed by locals, does not carry it. the sinac
is free, the entrance is
through donations so well it's
good that you leave some money to
support the maintenance of the
area and in our case we left 10 euros
but well it's a little bit as you can see so
in total at the entrance We left about
90 euros And this is per person in almost
all of these national parks you will have
to leave the car in a parking lot today in
other parts of the country also when
you go to visit a point of interest And
these parks are usually
guarded as often as not, but They also charge you
an entrance fee that depends on the area,
for example a tortuguero that you pack the
car and go by boat, they charge you at
night to leave the car there in the
parking lot that changes a little depending
on the day because we go they take it I think there is
no Prices are very official, but it's
like having a bit of nerve that day and it
usually costs around
four or five
euros more or less in the normal parking lots in the national park, but for example,
places where you spend the night can
charge you about 10 euros a night more or
less. In total, we
spent about 40 euros on parking throughout the
trip. So about 20 euros per person
going on two boats, we also took a
few, for example to go and return from
Tortuguero, to go and return from
Corcovado National Park, those from Corcovado
are Fixed prices are about 12,000
colones per person per trip, that is,
24,000 round trip, which is around
40 euros, and those from tortugueros are
cheaper, around 3,000.
5,000 colones can be about 5 euros,
which is a trip for us on these
traveling by boat we leave a
total of 50 euros per person for
travel insurance, which is highly recommended that you
always travel with travel insurance,
each one will charge you a different amount
But good for about 15 days Well,
calculate that it will be between 60 and 80 euros
More or less the insurance of the excursions,
we book quite a few tours where you
go with a guide and they
give you a tour of
different national parks to do
night tours to search for animals,
daytime tours to explain a little about what
the own National Park And
apart from that, if you can see animals, we
also took a tour of a
coffee, chocolate and sugar cane farm, we
also did some
activities such as rappelling and rafting, we
also did zip lines in the
Monteverde area and then toured a
circuit of hanging bridges and then
also in the Corcovado National Park area
part of a night shift we
also did an adventure in an
excursion that lasts two days with one
night inside the National Park
so it is also more expensive because they
give you two days for one night
includes all meals, you spend the night in
some cabins in the middle of the
National Park, etc. So this one, for
example, is more expensive. Night tours
are usually around 30. Between 25 and 40 euros
depending on the area, rafting and
rappelling, which was a whole day.
The tour of the
chocolate coffee and sugar cane farm was about 16 euros per person, the
zip lines plus hanging bridges tour was about 36 euros per person,
which was also an
entire afternoon,
the adventure was around 100 euros or so. Two
days and one night in Corcovado was the most
expensive because it was 300 euros per person,
which in total, the excursions,
activities, etc., were 800 euros
per person, but that should take into account that
the Corcovado part of the zip lines and
rappelling and more rafting takes up
practically 60-70% of the budget
So if you are not interested in these
activities, well here you can
reduce a lot and then others that
would be for example the SIM card which in
my case cost me 40 euros with Hola
flight and but if the If you buy there from
local mobile phone companies it
will be cheaper it can be about 20 euros
for example gasoline we had
to refill the tank three times
including the final one to return it with
a full tank and we left 140 euros in
two weeks so about 70 euros per
person For food we left around
220 euros per person, this also
depends on what you like to eat out or
if you prefer going to the supermarket and
making sandwiches, obviously this
can stretch a lot but calculated
about 20 euros per person per day tolls
in the area Near San José there are
toll highways but they
are quite cheap we went through
quite a few tolls and in total I don't know if
they arrived In total I think it was four
euros So a couple of euros per
person so good it's not it's not very
remarkable Regarding souvenirs and such, what
you want to buy obviously depends on
you. You have a lot of stalls
everywhere that sell you all kinds of
things. In my case, I spent about 80
euros or so on various purchases. I
also bought coffee, chocolates, t-
shirts and things like that then more or
less an 802 But well, in the end
this is already very personal but so that you
can also get an idea of why
the Souvenirs there are really quite
expensive, I know a magnet they can charge you
five or seven euros for a keychain also 7
euros So they are not very very cheap
So the total of everything that I have
told you per person for a couple of
weeks so that you can make an
estimate is around
2,800 euros more or less So as
you see it is not the most trip cheapest in the world you
can make it much cheaper by
finding cheap flights by not doing
half of the activities that are the
most expensive eating from the supermarket and
food that you do by staying in
the cheapest hotels Well maybe
instead of for 2,800 you can do them for
1500 or There But well, that's why I
tell you that it depends on the type of trip
you are going to do. In our case, we
filled it to capacity. We
had few breaks. No, we didn't go
to the beaches and relax a lot, but
we packed in all the activities and everything
we could. put in to fill up well
because we like to go at a high pace and
do many things Well, well,
that means that in the end, by putting in a lot of
activities and moving,
the budget increases. So I
hope that all these videos that have been useful to you I have asked
