The Monastery of San Jerónimo, in the city of Granada, in the province of Andalusia, Spain.
Built between 1504 and 1547 by the architect Diego de Siloé and for whom the Catholic kings gave all the Arab stone of the Puerta de Elvira.
It is the first monastery in the city of Granada.
Today only the main cloister and the church are visited, as another smaller cloister is part of a community of Jerónimo monks.
The cloister is a normally gardened courtyard, endowed in one of the side ships of the church and surrounded by galleries with columns that give way to the different rooms necessary for the monastic life.
It is also a place of gathering for the inhabitants of the monastery.
In this we find the dining room, which is the room where the monks gather to eat while they read the sacred scriptures.
The capitular room, where the issues related to the government of the monastery and its inhabitants were debated.
The chapter in this room was a convocatory assembly from which the rules to be followed by the entire community were emanated, which were read during meals in the dining room.
The profundis room is the ante-room to the dining room or dining room, a space for prayer and washing hands before each meal.
The Latin cross plant church presents a rich Renaissance decoration. It was the first in the world to be consecrated to the Immaculate Conception of Mary.
