Hello and welcome everyone! It's me, Mrs. May from Wise English.
This is our The Fun with English series and today we're going to have a look at some phrasal verbs.
Are you ready? Let's go!
Everybody, listen and do it after me.
Sit down, stand up, turn around, carry on.
So we have sit down, stand up, turn around and carry on.
What are these words?
You're right, they are phrasal verbs.
What does phrasal verb mean?
Phrasal verbs are verbs that have one, two, three, or even more than one noun or word.
They create a new meaning and bring a different meaning to each word.
In the IELTS, phrasal verbs not only help you improve your speaking skills, but also improve your listening and reading skills.
Knowing this, today, Wise and I will help you understand the characteristics and usage of phrasal verbs.
Phrasal verbs start with a consonant and end with a vowel.
Phrasal verbs are divided into two types.
The first type is transitive.
The second type is intransitive.
Let's take a look at the following examples to better understand the difference between the two types.
Here we have throw, able, call, Alice and Della.
Here, throw and call are non-verbs.
So, contrary to non-verbs, verbs don't need adjectives to create a perfect sentence.
For example, walk to school, arrive on time.
Here, walk and arrive are non-verbs.
These rules are also applied to adjectives like in phrasal verbs.
There are two types of phrasal verbs.
The first type is transitive.
The second type is intransitive.
Transitive phrasal verbs are non-verbs and non-verbs.
Today, I will show you some examples to better understand the difference.
For example, take off your jacket or turn on the light.
Here, take off your jacket is a non-verb.
The reason is because after take off, we have to add a verb.
Your jacket is a noun or the light is a noun in the sentence turn on the light.
Contrary to non-verbs, verbs don't need adjectives to create a perfect sentence.
For example, the plant took off 2 hours ago.
Where did you grow up?
As you can see, take off and grow up are non-verbs.
They don't need adjectives to add a verb.
When using phrasal verbs, you need to pay attention to use them better than phrasal verbs.
As you can see, some non-verbs have strange nouns.
They can be divided into separate verbs.
For example, take off your jacket.
Here, you can use the word your jacket.
Between take and off, take off your jacket and take your jacket off have the same meaning.
Here is another example.
Turn on the light.
Turn the light on.
It, them, him, her, us.
You need to pay attention to this word.
Because they can't be separated.
For example, turn it on.
We can't change this sentence to turn on it.
We need to use the word turn it on.
But for nouns, it, them, him, her, us.
You need to put them in the middle.
To make you understand better, let's go to the first sentence.
She looked at the magazine and then she put it down.
To put it down, we have put it down or put it down it.
You need to pay attention here.
We use it like an object.
So we need to choose put it down.
We need to clear them up.
Right, here we use them.
We need to choose clear them up.
A third note, not the most important.
In some cases, phrasal verbs are used with nouns and without nouns.
Here, there are some words around them.
For example, you say
I woke up at 6 a.m.
As you can see, woke up here is a plural form.
In the second case, it's completely different.
We need to wake Mike up at 6 a.m.
Here, wake up is a plural form.
There are a lot of phrasal verbs.
How can we memorize and learn them effectively?
Don't worry.
I will show you 5 simple tips
so that you can memorize and learn phrasal verbs more effectively.
The first tip is about popularity.
For example, on the Internet,
you can see that a lot of phrasal verbs are learned from a plural form.
For example, here.
However, this method has a big drawback.
Instead of memorizing phrasal verbs,
you only learn them mechanically.
You can't memorize and understand them correctly.
Instead of that, what do you need to do?
Ah, that's right.
You need to learn the subject group
and the subordinate or subordinate group.
Why?
Because when you learn the subject group or the subordinate or subordinate group,
there will be related sentences.
You can imagine a big chain.
Up means up.
You can say dress up.
Dress up means to dress up.
It means to dress up.
Or you can say before.
You can learn phrasal verbs in different contexts.
Do you know why?
Ah, that's right.
Do you know?
Each phrasal verb has different meanings.
Here, you can read books, share videos, and listen to music.
So you will understand these words better than in other contexts.
Here, there is a word take out.
Ah, it's very familiar.
You often hear it like
Oh, can you please take out the garbage?
Right?
You can say that.
In addition to that,
take out also has another meaning.
Borrow something from some place.
For example,
You can borrow some books from library.
Number five.
Last but not least.
It's very important for you.
You can write a story with your own words.
Hmm, it sounds very strange.
But why don't I recommend you to practice?
As I mentioned,
phrasal verbs have many different meanings.
And if you write a story about phrasal verbs in different contexts,
you can understand this phrasal verb better.
Here, I give you an example of phrasal verbs.
Take out.
It has three different meanings in Vietnamese.
The first one is
Ah, Vietnamese.
Just like you Vietnamese speakers.
The second one is
You can leave somewhere.
And the third one is

more clearly and more effectively.
The first way is
