hey what's up Paul Ingram here today
we're going to be working on some ground
fighting techniques some movements from
caot martial arts in Southeast Asian
martial arts now a lot of these
movements what I like about training
this stuff is that not only is it good
for martial arts but it's also really
good for developing our mobility in our
hips our strength and also working that
core and our shoulders it's a whole body
workout that's really good for Fitness
as well that's one of the things I love
about training the martial arts you kind
of get two bangs for the buck right you
get the martial arts stuff of it but you
also get that general fitness health
benefit of it as well so what we're
going to do is we're going to work some
ground kicks from cot martial arts are
also known as penx seot this is from the
har Mau the ground fighting the the
tiger type of uh fighting and Strikes
and stuff and we're going to take this
sawah kind of position right here and
this is a great position to be sitting
in we should be sitting in this position
daily at least throughout the day you
want to get on the ground and sit in
this position and it's really good for
our hips because we have some internal
rotation in the hip going on we have
some external rotation in the hip going
on and we get to be stabilizing our core
we want to spend as much time on the
ground as we can because you know in our
modern kind of more convenient life
we're spending less and less time on the
ground humans we got to spend more time
on the ground okay very very important
so for our first combination we're going
to be using this internal rotated leg
this back leg here and we're going to
come across and we're going to go into
our round kick just like this then we're
going to look over other shoulder other
leg is going to come around with what we
call a sickle kick spinning sickle kick
and then we're going to post the foot
I'm going to raise myself up two points
foot and opposite hand and go into
What's called the Naga kick and then
we're going to sit this down and now
we're on the other side sitting in sawah
and let's repeat the same thing going
the other way I'm going to wipe my hands
I'm going to go into my left leg round
kick this time look over my right
shoulder there's that spinning sickle
kick post that foot you got a foot post
and a hand post opposites of each other
lift up and Naga kick and let's go ahead
and work this let's do H five
repetitions together right now and then
we'll progress to comination number two
nice and slow we have round kick
spinning sickle kick and Naga bring it
back round kick spinning sickle kick and
Naga don't worry about how high you're
kicking and as you're working this out
you can gradually speed it up and try to
get your kicks higher and all that but
this is really good for you know not
only obviously the martial arts skills
but opening up our hips getting some of
that hip mobility that youthfulness back
into our
body and working some good stabilizing
strength throughout our body as
well you see we have to support hold our
body up core is activated shoulder hand
really using the whole body
here and work on getting the combination
to
flow become a little bit
smoother okay let's go ah and do two
more speed it up smooth it up just a
little
[Music]
bit okay last one last rep both
sides round kick sickle Naga back the
other way round kick
sickle and Naga right there
okay combination number two we're going
to follow the same order of kicks so
this time I'm going to start off the
same way I'm going to come out with the
round kick then I'm going to do a sickle
back I'm going to just bring it right
back post the foot and Naga and when we
go to sit down you're going to see that
we just returned to our original start
position so we're going to do a switch
we'll just do a nice simple seated front
switch for now I've got some other
videos here on the YouTube channel that
that uh goes over different types of
switches that you can play around with
and then we're going to work the other
side me a round
kick sickle it back post and Naga
kick and again we'll just do a simple
seated front
switch and if you want more ground stuff
like this if you want to really explore
even more combinations then head over to
my website at Marshall flex.com and you
can check out my seot starter course got
a bunch of ground stuff stuff in there
and a whole bunch of other standup
drills that you can work as well so we
have round kick sickle it back post and
Naga and let's
switch round
kick sickle it back and Naga right there
and then switch let's get three more in
so we got a total of five again one two
three kicks boom sit and
switch if you practice this probably in
about one or two
weeks maybe even just a couple of days
you'll start to uh feel that difference
in your
hips you know as I've been also you know
always working to improve my hip
mobility my hip strength cuz it's always
a work in
progress but what I have found see we
got what we'll do two more two more reps
here what I have found is that just
working my kicks whether I'm standing
whether I'm on the ground like this this
has been the most beneficial
exercises for my hip
mobility right there and
switch all righty we got one more
combination I want to make sure I share
with you let's do it together we're
combination number
three combination number three on our
caot ground kicks again we're following
the exact same order round kick sickle
kick and Naga kick this one we're going
to start off with the round kick but
we're going to stop it halfway want you
to pretend like uh somebody your
opponent blocked your kick and you're
going to bring it all the way around and
come back to the sickle kick on the
other side same leg there post up and
Naga kick
and from there we got a switch so we'll
just stick with the same seated front
switch keep it simple for now and again
on the other side I'm going to go into
my round kick stop my opponent blocks me
I spin all the way around same leg
there's that Sickle kick from the other
side post and Naga kick right there and
then
switch y let's get a couple more reps in
on that round kick boom it gets blocked
bring it around there's the sickle kick
and Naga right there and
switch other
side there it is gets blocked I come
back around boom I sneak them on the
other side Pop there's the Naga we got
what three more
reps let's rep it out nice and
[Music]
smooth
there
switch gets blocked come back around
there's the sickle kick boom there's
that Naga that Dragon kick snake strike
two more
pop boom
pop
switch other side it gets blocked come
back around there's that Naga or sorry
the sickle there's the Naga kick let's
switch it let's get one more repetition
in blocked come back around there's that
Naga or is the sickle kick there's the
Naga right
there and let's go come on man don't
make a mistake on the name of the kicks
here round kick gets blocked coming
around sickle kick and then there's the
Naga I apologize I don't want to I'll be
messing you up there and then we come
back
around so again there we have some Basic
Ground kicking techniques from seot penj
seot Southeast Asian martial art that
comes from the Malay archipelago that's
kind of what I've trained for a long
time is Southeast Asian martial arts
Filipino martial arts sea lot stuff like
that and uh if you've never done
something like this before try it just
try it and just have fun with it like I
said we get that martial art benefit out
of it it's fun to practice the martial
arts but there's so much health benefit
out of it martial arts is a great
Fitness it's good for our health it's
going to really help to work that hip
mobility get your hip movement back get
your hips healthy again but it really
does work the entire body you know all
that stabilizing maneuvering all that
good stuff it's very good for us to be
doing this so again if you want to check
