live look now across the river where the
battleship New Jersey is currently
docked as it has been for a long time
now in Camden but it won't be there much
longer that historic Battleship will be
on the Move tomorrow part of a project
to make sure it'll be on display there
for generations to come New
Jersey Trish Hartman live now in Camden
with more on that Big Move tomorrow
Trish that's right Brian tomorrow
morning is the ceremony and then at 1210
sharp the battleship is scheduled to
depart here from Camden on its way for
restoration it is the first time this
ship has moved from this very spot in
more than 20 years we're ready to go uh
it's has been a year in the making uh
we're prepped we're ready the most
decorated battleship in US Navy history
is about to take an overdue trip down
the Delaware for some much needed
maintenance most of the work will be
done to the part that you you don't see
here uh you know just visiting us in
Camden but that work is really the most
crucial work in making sure that we're
staying here we're AF flat the
battleship New Jersey is about to go
into Dry Dock at the Philadelphia Navy
Yard where the ship's hole will be
inspected painted and repaired the
battleship cannot move on its own so
four tugboats will pull it Harbor
docking pilot Joseph Benton will be at
the helm making sure the ship makes its
Journey safely we use the tug boats in
place of the ship's propulsion system so
one tug will be made fast to the side of
the ship to act as the engines and the
other tugs will be in place of the
rudder Help U lift the ship off the dock
and then turn her around and sear her
down river the ship will cross under the
Walt Whitman Bridge around 1:30 and the
bridge will be closed to traffic during
that time the ship will arrive in
Paulsboro around 400 p.m. there it will
receive final preparations for dry
docking at the Navy Yard public viewing
areas include the Camden Waterfront
Redbank Battlefield in National Park and
the River Winds complex in West depford
the last time the ship was dry docked
was in 1990 officials expect thousands
of people to watch the famous ship make
her journey tomorrow I've been on it
before and uh you got I was in the Navy
my dad was in the Navy it' be nice to
come see it come down
yeah now once the battleship New Jersey
ends up at the Navy Yard it will go to
dock number three and that is the same
exact dock where it was built in the
1930s and 1940s now officials hope to
have the ship back here in Camden back
open for tours as usual in early
June
