Hello and welcome to the Pettigoat and Swashbuckler. My name is Marin and for the last
many months I've been making a capsule wardrobe for a domestic servant from 1929 and
I am done with it. It's been really fun. I'd never done anything 1920s before,
it was completely new to me. I had no idea how to kind of go about making those kinds of clothes.
I've made clothes up to like the 19-teens and then from like 1930s onwards but exactly 1920s
was just terra incognita for me. So I've had a lot of fun reading up on the period,
finding patterns and finding the fabrics and trying to like get to grips with how it works,
how does the silhouette work, how does the kind of fashion of the era work. So I've made loads
of stuff. I made some underwear, I made some envelope chemises, I have made a sort of
bandeau corsolette kind of thing with suspenders, I made some slips and I've made
some outfits. I made a blouse, I made a suit, I made a hat, I made an afternoon dress and an
evening dress. So it's, you know, if we take all of the kind of clothing, not the underwear,
but if we take the kind of clothing that you see, it's blouse, jacket, skirt, afternoon dress,
evening dress and then one very fancy evening dress but we don't talk about that because it's
not part of this capsule because it's much too fancy. I just found nice fabric and fell for it.
So it's really five garments and a hat and what I thought would be fun
would be to try and see how many outfits can I get from those five items of clothing
because that's the whole point of a capsule wardrobe is how much wardrobe do you get out
of very very few items of clothing. So that's what this video is. It's a little bit of an experiment
and I hope you enjoy it and yeah let's see how many outfits we can get.
Okay so that's already like 14 outfits with my five garments. That would do me for two weeks
but how much more can we get if we add like one more garment, say a second blouse? Let's have a
look. Okay so that was all the outfits. I feel like six garments and 20 outfits that's pretty
good. I'm very happy with that, with those stats. With that I have finished this project.
You can find all of the videos, everything in the playlist that I will link at the end of this video.
You'll also find the 1930s coat that I made last winter in that playlist. It's really weird, I
started this project in January. That's when I started to make the corset brassiere. That's when
I started making the chemise, envelope chemises. So you know January, February, March, April, May,
June, July, August, September, we're talking eight months. So it's quite a hefty project. I'm very
very happy, I'm very proud of myself and I'm very happy for like sticking with it. I'm also very
happy with the fact that I've been able to like up the frequency of my videos a little bit. So
instead of a video every month, I've been able to make a video every two weeks. I hope I'll keep
that tempo up but we'll see. I started a new job this autumn and it's a very very nice job but I
have got a bit of a commute so that might eat into some of my filming and editing time but we'll see.
So far so good. I don't think I'll be doing any 1920s again in a while
but I'm really really happy that I got to like get to know this period a little bit
and yeah I'm very, I'm very happy with it. I'm very content with like putting all of that in
the box and being like this is my 1920s stuff that I made that is nice and good and move on
to new things and I have some new things lined up I'm very excited about. It's still going to be
the 1900s the next time I see you but it's going to be very different, a very different 1900s
from the 1920s. So until next time, take care and goodbye!
