Join us as we go bikepacking from Georgetown in the north of Malaysia all the way south to Singapore.
Morning. Morning. Bugs. Bugs everywhere. Was that the theme of last night? It was, wasn't it? Yeah.
Last night, just about to get into bed. I remember last night. And I see something
scurrying across the bathroom floor. A lizard. A lizard? Yeah. And then he says... No, they put
them in because they eat all their bad stuff, don't they? They put them in? Yeah, one lizard
each room. They name them as well. Lewis. Did you have one? Yeah. And then they all just get
together at the end of the day and be like, oh, what did you get to eat? Yeah. Careful, it's very steep.
Yes, the last day, mate. Well, not the last day, the last day
of riding. Yeah. Until a rest day. I'm excited for Kuala Lumpur. This is what it's been all
about, isn't it, really? Big city life. It's like Tough Mudder.
What did you get? Something good. On the menu today for breakfast, because Snake River did
not provide, two cold coffees, which I'm actually getting used to now, and some premium fruit cake.
Oh, good find. I can't tell you what's premium about it. We're like almost a week into this.
Look what I found, Francis. Cochlear cake. It's supposedly been getting cooler as we head south
towards Kuala Lumpur, but it doesn't feel that way, does it? No. I pre-watered myself, which means
putting water all over your jersey in anticipation of the heat. And it works quite well. It is still
early, so we're awaiting the full wrath of today's sunshine. You can see why people here, the locals,
ride at 5am and get back by night. We leave at night and go, why is it so hot? Getting Lawrence
out of bed at that time is quite tricky. He's not wrong. What is that? My little pony sour sweets.
Another packet you can't open. What's that? It looks weird.
So we've been making really, really good progress this morning. We are well over halfway. Pretty
sure there's a big tailwind, but we are getting some help from the draft of the lorries. 7-Eleven
here. I think we're going to make a quick pit stop. Ben singing about cats. Eric, he went to my school.
Air-conditioned. He's very interested in my bike. Hello. Oh yeah.
Chinese place here. We're getting a bit of rice. He's given us sauces on the side so we can try a
bit of each one. What a legend. We've got a tight schedule boys. We've got to eat fast.
Finished already mate. Yeah. It was good then. I've got to be fastest at something on this trip.
What are you fastest at? Getting ready in the mornings. He's faster than me. He is.
That's rare. Do you know how I do it though? I pack everything pretty much the night before.
I'm very bad at leaving stuff in rooms. Historically, I would just leave stuff
in every room we go to. What did you lose on the last trip we did together Ben?
Two pairs of Sungods. A phone charger. Two pairs? Two pairs. How? In a shop like this,
I put them in some fruit just to take them off. Wipe my brow. Just left them there.
You put sweaty sunglasses into a bowl of fruit.
Final climb of the day. Done. Was that a crocodile? A dragon.
We're on this lovely descent, which should take us right to the borders of Kuala Lumpur.
Luckily, we timed it so that we will arrive before rush hour.
Big crocodile. I don't know. ------- Komodo, dragon, crocodile, alligator.
I've got a puncture. Uh-oh. Put it at the bottom. It's not sealing. Put it at the bottom. Yeah.
I guess it was going to happen at some point, right? We've done pretty well to get,
what, 500 kilometers in without a single mechanical slash puncture.
Leatherman. Always. Only 20k to go, mate.
Mate, he's got his content and he's just left. He's just absolutely ditched us.
He's used his little pluggy thing, held his bike, pumped his tire up, and he's like, cheers boys.
See you in Kuala Lumpur then, yeah Francis?
All right, mission.
So we finally made it to the outskirts of Kuala Lumpur. Francis says he's booked us some really
nice accommodation tonight, right in the center of town, not far from the famous Petronas Towers.
Myself and Francis will be spending a few days there, saying goodbye to Ben and recovering,
before continuing south to Singapore. How are you feeling, mate? Are you pretty tired?
Yeah, I am tired and I've just started to get a saddle sore.
Really? Yeah.
After a week?
These speed bumps are a quick reminder every 100 yards.
We've got to the last day and I've had a few comments of people saying,
Lawrence, can you introduce your friends? We know your name, but who are you? What do you do?
Ben's a paid actor.
And where do you live?
My name's Ben Chapman, also known as Benjamin Le Chappers.
I'm from County Durham in the northeast of England. I ride bikes.
Some viewers might recognize this guy from many years ago.
Did you just make up a fake story about Ben?
He's a paid actor, isn't he?
Francis, friends of Lawrence for a long time. We used to race together.
Now I do videos on YouTube about cycling under the title Cade Media.
Where are you based?
Good question. Currently, Newcastle. But soon in the future, somewhere else.
You'll have to check both of them out on YouTube.
So you wouldn't eat my layer cake yesterday, but you'd eat that. What is it?
I think it's a black forest gateau sandwich.
Guys, guys.
That's exactly what I've been saying. I'm glad it's finally cracked.
Guys, guys.
Look at that building. It's got a bridge at the top.
So we arrived here at our hotel an hour ago.
Frustratingly, we've been waiting to see whether we're allowed bikes in the rooms.
It's been an issue at almost every hotel that we've been in.
It's not a bad view, right?
It's not. But I do like this view.
About two hours ago, you know, when we got here.
Lots of waiting. We got there in the end.
See, this is the problem, right? Last night we stayed in a really horrible place
and it took us 30 seconds to get in.
We could put our bikes anywhere we wanted.
But now we're in a condo in the middle of the city
and it's taken us two hours to agree a situation of where our bicycles go.
Apparently, that building there is the second tallest in the world.
It took us two and a half hours to get in the place because we have 30 bikes.
Ben wants a Red Bull hat because he wants to be a Red Bull athlete.
And apparently, you can't buy Red Bull hats because only the athletes get them.
You've done a very good job backing it up, haven't you?
Yeah, I'm getting pretty good at it now.
Yeah, you are.
So what I do is I take the frame...
I take the handlebars out of here
and the only reason I've done that on this is because the cables are too short.
And then I take the derailleur off and I wrap it in cellophane
and then I wrap the wheels so they don't rub on the frame.
And this is all stuff I've just learned from making mistakes.
Also, in cellophane, I used to just throw it all in
because it's the end of the trip, throw it all in, just get home.
But then when you get home, you've got more of a problem.
You're like, oh, where's the bolt for that?
So now that will go straight back in the loft until the next one.
Never ever sellotape it up before you know everything's in it.
What did we just find in there?
A passport.
We're going to miss you, man.
Cheers.
It's been a good trip.
You're going to miss us.
Yeah, obviously.
It's going to be painful watching you carry on riding whilst I'm stuck at work.
Thank you so much.
Thank you, mate.
Thank you.
See you later.
Mate, see you later.
See you back in Newcastle.
Safe flight, man.
Love you.
Catch you soon.
Bye.
Yeah, sad.
Sadness.
What are we going to do now?
It's like that bit in Dumb and Dumber where they leave each other, don't they?
