all right today we're going to go over
knife
attacks so this is something
that I hear all the time from people
right oh I can stab a dog no you
can't not a well-trained dog you can
right so here what we're going to do is
we're going to show three different
versions of knife attacks we've never
done this
before so I always want to test my dogs
before they go out to their new owners
to make
sure that they're doing knife
stops okay and understand the game
before they go to their new homes all
right so few things before we get into
the video and show the
examples
one
if I see somebody with a knife okay I am
not going to send my dog to
attack I am going to put the dog in a
really bad
situation running into a knife I'm
giving the advantage to the person that
I'm sending the dog on okay so
especially the further the distance the
more that
person can set up and time this all
right so just not a good idea seeing
somebody with a knife sending your dog
on the attack okay because now the
person sets up the dog comes running in
they can turn and out of the way and
stab the
dog right or frontal
okay so don't want to send a dog when
it's obvious that somebody is holding a
knife already
okay so what would we do we do the rever
this is the importance of a rever okay a
real life rever so I see the knife I
want to keep that person at a distance
with that knife I send the dog into a
barking hold which we call
Riv and they will go right up to the
person stopping right before
them and barking at the
person and attacking if the arms come
into an attack position
okay
nice here
now what does this do for us oh and for
the dog so as a dog shoots
in they slow up and hold a little bit of
space okay by doing that and hold
slowing as they come in they are able to
see things
clearer knowing that they're going to
slow in and hold up before the person
all right so even if the dog slowed in
and as they were slowing and the person
went like this it's easy for the dog to
catch that arm that's coming out towards
them and stop it
here oh damn good
goodam because of the slowing the pace
down knowing that they're not going in
for the attack attack they can see
things a lot
clearer okay instead of missling and
just thinking about the hit okay so it's
much easier for a
dog this way and to protect themselves
all right so dog comes in stops here is
looking at the situation
okay and a trained dog is looking at the
arms because it could be left it could
be right we teach both arms because you
never know what it's going to be okay
most people are right-handed so we know
90% of the time it should be in the
right but you never know even a
right-handed person may not have shifted
the knife to the right hand yet when
they pulled it out and it ends up in the
left hand so the dog has to be prepared
for both things right or
left
here so as the dog sits there they're
scoping the person barking at them just
making sure all their arm movements are
staying in
place okay they're hyp
sensitive to any fast movements okay so
when the person goes like this the dog
automatically goes after that movement
and is gonna stop it before it ever gets
around all right so just saying it is
very difficult right to stop a knife
attack on a well-trained
dog very it's it's so I laugh when
people say oh I'll stab the dog
I'll
so we're going to show the three
versions of Jose trying to come here
around and from this position okay okay
okay right and try to come over the dog
and stab it from above all right which
would be the three position that
somebody would try to do it and also
guys we're going to be using a
retractable knife of course not a real
knife plastic knife so will
not hurt the dogs at all if it makes
contact
so we want to see if there's going to be
any contact at all if Jose will be able
to touch them at
all and see if we have to alter our
positionings here
oh nice
here
Point
good here
o nice
oh come
here come here
oh dogs stopping knife
attacks excellent now I have heard this
stuff and especially from military or
whatever and this this is not going to
happen either so I have heard yeah but
if the knife is back here in my
pocket right well it's worse right the
further back you are the worse you
are I hear this as if it's an advantage
to the person right so if you move your
arm back here the dog is already
suspicious of this arm that moved
already now you're even going further
back and you got to load more as you
come out for that attack that's even
worse for you all right so now that you
put them on alert here the moment you
come out from a behind they're already
going to hit you over here because of
this movement coming from behind this
arm is not getting anywhere around that
body okay and if you had a knife holder
here and you were doing this and started
to do this the dog is already alert to
this slow movement and you to come out
like this it's going to be it it's
almost impossible with a good dog okay
with a well-trained dog on this even
though
Jose is an expert Knife Guy
trying to catch those dogs on an attack
in and get the right timing when you
don't do it
ever right what you could see was
difficult the dogs were running in he
was trying to time it and this and got a
little delayed sometimes right in that
knife out to try to stab on the way
in oh damn good good because the mind
and eye the hand I coordination with
this it's not like Jose has done it ever
and has practiced you know dogs going
attack and with knife attacks trying to
get them on the
entry so with somebody in the public you
know that they've never been practicing
knife attacks on dog coming in to attack
them right so they're going to be
absolutely clueless and the Deering
headlights what do I do is he gonna
actually attack is he going to hold off
is he really they have no idea the dog
training game they don't know what the
dogs are supposed to do what the
exercise is so you have somebody
actually in the public who's clueless to
what's going to
happen and has never had any experience
or practice with hand eye coordination
on trying to stab a
dog all right so it it makes it very
difficult for somebody to get this right
all right
so all's good
can't be
caught wasn't even
close so we're good so the positioning
of the dogs are good I don't have to go
switch things and alter things now
because I
know that they're pretty safe okay that
it wasn't even really close right any of
the shots Jose gave at trying to stab
him so
that's what you want to see and for
people who think you know that they're
just going to stab a dog now a trained
dog we're talking right that understands
bite work and targeting arms and all
that kind of stuff very difficult with a
good skilled dog
okay
so see you next time dog Forest one
