you know probably six months ago I would
have never seen myself speaking in favor
of this bill speaking on this bill at
all frankly
um I'm not an expert on education I'll
be the first to tell you that uh I'm
learning a lot right now with a
six-year-old in
kindergarten however what I want to
bring to your attention today is the
importance of the life skill related to
cursive
handwriting um and and why I chose to
stand up today and speak on on this
legislation because in the last 6 months
I was in my office at the bank and I was
working with a young man in his
20s who was borrowing money for the
first time to buy an
automobile and I produced the loan
documents for him and I handed them down
to him and I asked the young man to sign
the documents as we walked through the
package of documents to get that loan
and that young man says I don't know how
to S
my name I was never taught cursive
writing in the entire time I was going
through
school and so I stand up today not
because I'm an expert on
education but cursive writing is the
foundation for a real world skill that
each and every student in Kentucky needs
to have when they go out into the real
world to borrow money to sign contracts
and all those types of things and so I
think it's a extremely important that we
have this requirement just like I
thought it was extremely important that
we had this requirement to do financial
literacy a few years ago when we did
that in Miss body and so I would urge
the members to support this bill uh and
I because I think in in the real world
this is an important skill thank you Mr
Speaker
