Hello everyone, Thu Dau Mot is the old name of Binh Duong province before 1956 and has existed for 87 years, that is, from 1869 to 1956.
First, I will present the name Thu Dau Mot, how it was formed in terms of its historical and natural history.
But many other writers think that Thu Dau Mot originates from the word Thuong Viet, which means a Vietnamese adverb, formed from the combination of the two cities.
The word Thu is a Vietnamese adverb, which means to keep or defend, because this place has soldiers to guard and control.
And Dau Mot is read in the Khmer language as Dau Miet or Miet Dau, is a place or a whole area of oil trees.
It is like the name of some other places in Binh Duong province, such as Bung Cai, located in Thu Dau Mot commune, is a lowland area in the middle of the field, growing a lot of vegetables.
Or the place named Bung Cau, located in Tuong Binh Hiep commune, 5 km from Thu Dau Mot, is a floodplain in the middle of the field, so you have to catch a bridge across, on the bridge is Quach Lo 13, now is Dai Lo Binh Duong.
Thus, according to legend, because there are soldiers guarding in Binh An district of Phu Cuong ward today, lying on a hill with a large oil tree, commonly known as oil tree 1, so the name Thu Dau Mot has originated from there.
Here I would like to present the history of Thu Dau Mot and Binh Duong.
Binh Duong is a remote area, a desolate land and forest mountainous area.
Through archaeological sites excavated in Vuong Du, Go Da, Co La Ruo and Gop Chua, archaeologists have confirmed that Binh Duong today used to be the birthplace of the ancient Indonesian tribe.
It was the birthplace of the ancestors of Chau Ro, Chau Ma and Mo Nong today.
Since then, these indigenous groups have gradually formed and developed their land, living here.
Until the early 17th century, Vietnamese settlers from the north, central, went to the southeast, including Binh Duong, to find land to settle.
They included various social elements and left their homeland for various reasons.
Especially during the period when the war was fierce between Uncle Trinh and Uncle Nguyen, the conflict between the landowners of Phong Kien and the farmers became more and more fierce.
Therefore, the migration process of Vietnamese and southerners, including Binh Duong, occurred regularly and the number increased.
Until 1685, when the war lasted more than 40 years between the two Uncle Trinh and Uncle Nguyen ended, the political and social situation was relatively stable and the foreign trade was developing very high.
Therefore, some areas of the territory extended from Thuan Quang to Ca Mau, the source of labor of people from all over the world.
Therefore, the migration process of Vietnamese people took place throughout the 17th century to formalize a realistic situation for resettlement and travel in the spring of 1698.
In 1698, Governor-General Ngai Nguyen Huu Canh, in the territory of Phuong Nam, established the territory and built the administrative structure of the Phuoc Long District and Tan Binh District,
Phuoc Long District with the name Trang Bien, including the entire southeast today, and Tan Binh District with the name Phien Trang, including Tay Ninh, Ho Chi Minh City, Tien Giang and Long An today.
Phuoc Long District is also the first administrative unit established on the newly-opened land of Vietnamese people in Phuong Nam.
Since then, the land has been growing and developing rapidly, the population is getting more and more crowded, and the land is getting more and more pushed back.
At that time, the names such as Tinh Duc, Tinh Lang appeared with a separate style, such as Lai Thieu, Cho Bung, Cho Phu Cuong, Cho Tan Ba, Cho Tan Nguyen, Cho Thi Tinh and Cho Chau Dien,
are a sign of strong life and momentum in the production and exchange of goods in the newly-opened area of Binh Duong.
Until the French invasion of our country, the name Thu Dau Mot appeared on the documents since 1867, when the French occupied all of Nam Ky and divided the provinces into 27 coastal provinces.
Among them, there is a coastal province named Thu Dau Mot, and 22 years later, on December 20, 1889, the French invaded, divided and upgraded these 27 coastal provinces into 20 provinces, including a province named Thu Dau Mot.
Thus, we can conclude that December 20, 1889 was the first day the province Thu Dau Mot was established.
In 1956, the Saigon government divided Thu Dau Mot province into 3 provinces and named them Binh Duong province, Binh Long province and Phuoc Long province.
To put it simply, he kept the province name as Thu Dau Mot, because during the anti-French struggle, the name Thu Dau Mot province has changed several times. For example, it was merged twice with other provinces and was named Thu Bien.
Then it was separated, once divided into Phuoc Thanh province, once added Tan Phu province, then also merged Phuoc Thanh province in 1961 to 1965, then merged Tan Phu province from 1971 to 1973 to return as Thu Dau Mot.
And there was also a short time as Thu Dau Mot province, also divided into a part is Phan Khu 1, the other part is Phan Khu 5, in 1970, until the end of 1972 to 1973, there was no Phan Khu anymore, but back to Thu Dau Mot province.
After April 30, 1976, the National Assembly of the Republic of Vietnam decided to enter 3 provinces, the first is Thu Dau Mot, the second is Binh Long, and the third is Phuoc Long, to become Song Be province.
The name Song Be commune and the name Thu Dau Mot commune is the center of the province's cultural, economic and political culture, and is also the city of Thu Dau Mot, which is gradually becoming a modern and artistic city.
Thus, within 20 years of the existence of Song Be province, the name Binh Duong province, Thu Dau Mot province, of course, no longer exists. But by 1997, the story of the province changed again.
This year, the Republic of Vietnam decided to separate Song Be province into 2 provinces, Binh Phuoc province, which includes Binh Long and Phuoc Long, and Binh Duong province.
Goodbye everyone, see you again in the next video.
