Mmm, this one is really sweet.
It's very good.
Hello everyone, I'm Linh and this is...
Konnichiwa, my name is Hinako.
I'm from Soka University in Tokyo and I'm 21 years old. Nice to meet you guys.
I'm Kaku. I'm 19 years old and I'm a sophomore of Meiji University student.
And I'm from Tokyo.
And today, we're very happy to introduce to you about the Mid-Autumn Festival in Vietnam
and the Hitsukimi Festival in Japan.
Let's go!
So, Hinako and Kaku, let's learn about Vietnamese Mid-Autumn Festival.
First, we will watch some videos and I want to hear your impression about that.
Yeah, you can see that Mid-Autumn Festival is the time when children and people in town
gather around to parade with a lantern.
It's very colorful.
Yeah, I can see a lot of children here.
Yeah, and they're dancing.
I'll show you soon how to sell the lantern and toys in the Mid-Autumn Festival.
This is so beautiful.
Yeah, and the music is kind of relaxing.
Oh, yeah, this song again.
The lantern.
Yeah, the lantern has so many shapes.
The fish, the star, and yeah.
Yeah, this one is Lime Dancing.
Wow.
Which is really popular in the Mid-Autumn Festival in Vietnam.
Oh, the juice!
Oh, yeah.
Amazing.
And how about in Japan?
Do you guys celebrate any festival at the Mid-Autumn?
Yes, we have.
Yeah, we have a similar festival in August and it is called Tsukimi in Japanese.
Oh, and then what is special about this Tsukimi Festival?
It's a special moon viewing day.
It signifies gratitude to God for a good harvest season.
Yeah, and what do you usually do in this festival?
We usually get together and make the gold-shaped traditional pastries.
It is made of flour and we make many, many, many pastries and put them on the tray.
Shaped like a pyramid.
Put the tray over the lantern so that we can see.
Oh, as far as I know, that is the dandelion.
Yeah.
What about you, Rina-kun?
We also decorate with items like suzuki, hagi, and autumn flowers near the window to enhance the moon-gazing experience.
Hinako, we just mentioned a traditional dish which is called dango. What is that?
It's called Tsukimi dango.
And dango is a cake made from glutinous rice and it's really sticky and sweet.
Oh, it's like mochi?
Yeah, mochi, mochi.
And there are various types of mochi and dango is one of these.
Oh, dango is one of those?
Yes, yes.
It has only one flavor?
Actually, we eat dango with a sauce and the sauce has a lot of flavors.
Oh, so by the way, what kind of food, pastries, does Vietnamese make in the big border festival?
We have mooncakes, which is bánh trung thu.
Bánh trung thu.
That's right. We have various types, which is bánh nướng.
Bánh nướng.
And bánh dẻo.
Bánh dẻo.
And actually, we have some of those here. Would you like to try that?
Yes.
No.
What is that?
It means, can we try it?
Really? So, yeah, let's go for it.
And let's go in Japan.
Let's go.
Go.
Let's go.
So, let's go or let's go?
Let's go.
So, 3, 2, 1.
Let's go.
So, there we have three types of mooncakes.
The first one is our traditional.
The second one is mung bean.
And the third one is sticky rice.
So, we will try the traditional first, which is this one.
Yeah, let's dig in.
I can wait no longer.
So, how is that?
Oh, delicious.
Explain.
It is mixed with a lot of things.
We usually use this with tea.
Let's try that.
And we use tea to remove the sweet flavor.
Yeah.
To refresh our taste.
And then, we move to the next one.
The mung bean.
3, 2, 1.
Cheers.
Let's try it.
This one is really sweet.
It's really good.
The mung bean is the flavor.
Yeah.
But I think it's a little bit similar to sweet potato.
But the flavor is completely different.
So now, let's dig in the last one.
Which is sticky rice.
It also has mung bean.
And in the middle, we have a salted egg.
This one is my favorite.
Cheers.
So, the outside of this, the flavor is really good.
I expect so.
I can taste the egg.
Yeah.
And the mung bean is not very sweet.
Honestly, I don't really like the tea.
But it has a sweet flavor.
I like the mung bean.
Yeah.
What about you, Cathy?
I'm very fond of sweet.
So, I'll try it.
To be myself, just the sticky rice.
But you have to do for one, so I do.
So, Gaku, Hinako.
We have introduced the Mid-Autumn Festival in Vietnam.
And the Tsukimi in Japan.
On 29th September, there will be a festival.
So, what would you like to say to the Vietnamese people?
We hope that through sharing about the Mid-Autumn Festival in Vietnam.
And Tsukimi Festival in Japan.
You felt the warmth and significance behind this special occasion.
Thank you so much.
