Tonson, Tonson fakes, fires, three-pointer.
Zane!
Played Tonson from down, down.
And the Warriors back up by one.
Bayne looking.
Brooks comes off the screen.
Bayne to Clark.
Clark to Moran.
Moran on the drive.
Scoop layup.
No good.
Golden State holds on and wins game one.
What a thriller here in Memphis.
What's up, all you sportsmen?
It's Lamont, and we are back with another podcast video.
Second round of the playoffs are here.
We got the Golden State Warriors and the Memphis Grizzlies.
I think this was one of the premier matchups that everyone wanted to see.
Over the last couple of years,
the Grizzlies have given the Golden State Warriors all types of problems.
And we know how electrifying Ja Morant is.
But the one difference here is Golden State comes into this series
where generally they have the home court advantage.
They're on the road as the road team,
and they must come in and steal game one to take the advantage.
And this is a game where the Grizzlies did not make this easy.
We see that Golden State was able to pull this game out by one point in the end.
Let's go ahead and get to the highlights very quickly to break down how they did it.
All right, we're going to jump straight to fourth quarter action.
Warriors getting off to the break right here.
Clutch passes throughout the fourth quarter.
Oversharing the ball is what helped them.
We see Gary Payton with the dunk right there.
Steph Curry with a tough step back three against Jaron Jackson.
Jaron Jackson was great all night defensively and offensively,
scoring over 30 points for the first time in his career in the playoffs.
But again, this Warrior team's poise deep in late game situations started to rear his head,
and they were able with this small lineup to get seemingly almost every second chance point,
and that's what kept them in this game.
Memphis up two right here.
Timely pass to Payton in the paint.
Again, this small ball lineup is what really gave them advantage here.
Clay Thompson, dagger three on a possession where they had multiple,
multiple attempts to get a good look at the rim.
They take the lead by one.
Steph Curry, clutch, clutch, lockdown defense to seal the game.
Memphis Grizzlies make a fatal error by not fouling in time,
simply allow too much time to run off the clock.
And this is the inexperience of this Grizzly team, and we see Steph Curry there,
much improved defender, doesn't get enough credit for it,
comes up with the clutch stop on John Morant.
Grizzlies got one more chance to win it right here.
Clay Thompson just missed two free throws, comes up with a great stop at the buzzer,
and the Memphis Grizzlies are stunned at home, down 0-1 to the Golden State Warriors.
What a game.
What a clutch performance by Clay Thompson and Steph Curry.
This is a game where they had to play the entire second half
without their defensive quarterback, Draymond Green,
who was ejected for a highly questionable flagrant foul that was labeled as a flagrant two.
We're going to talk about that later in the show.
But again, you have to give credit where credit is due because without Draymond Green,
this is where we've seen this Warrior team struggle the most.
And Jordan Poole, Steph Curry, Clay Thompson, even guys off the bench, Payton, Wiggins,
all of these guys came up big.
We saw Steve Kerr go to a small lineup by taking Looney out the game.
He went with Otto Porter Jr.
And again, that small lineup gave this Memphis Grizzlies team problem all night.
On the Memphis Grizzlies end, you can't get a much better performance from Jaron Jackson Jr., right?
33 points, 10 rebounds.
I mean, this is the performance that Memphis has been looking for, right?
And they get that performance.
And when it comes down to late-game situations, they don't execute, and it seemingly goes to waste.
Jamarant with a big game.
34 points, 10 assists.
Again, doing it all for this team.
You get a great game from Melton coming off the bench.
Clark also gave a very strong performance.
Some really, really big-time blocks that jump-started a couple of those Memphis Grizzlies runs.
But again, when we got to go to this Warrior team, again, intestinal fortitude.
Experience in late-game situations, and that's what separated these two teams.
The Golden State Warriors went into halftime down, really searching for answers on how to figure out,
how to defend a Memphis Grizzlies team that was playing fast with a lot of pace.
They came out in that third quarter.
They were able to slow the game down and speed the game up for themselves.
So while they picked up the pace and got in transition a lot more,
it seemed like the Grizzlies slowed down their pace, and they were playing the half court,
which didn't really favor them, but it was more of an all-around effort for this team.
Jordan Poole, the man of the hour.
Again, probably one of the most surprising playoff performers that we've seen this season so far.
Jordan Poole with 31 points.
Steph Curry with 24 of his own.
Wiggins with 17, and Klay Thompson with 15.
And you guys saw that dagger three that he put up to put them in the lead.
Big-time shots from big-time players.
Big-time defensive stops.
We talked about when Klay Thompson would get his legs back.
We know his jumper's back, but when would he be able to get his legs back to defend at the level we know he can defend?
And with Steph Curry and Klay Thompson having two really good stops on ball,
on one of the best finishers of the rim in the league, in Ja Morant,
that tells you about this Golden State Warrior team.
And again, all of that was done without the defensive presence of Draymond Green.
Now, a lot of people are going to say that that flagrant foul was bogus.
We heard what Stephen A. Smith had to say about it at the halftime of this game.
We're going to run it back really briefly here.
I want you guys, look at this play right here, and I want you guys to let me know.
Honest opinion.
How do you feel about this foul?
And do you believe that this was only labeled a flagrant two-foul because of who it was
and not because of the action itself?
Let's go ahead and run that clip really quick right here.
Green strips Anderson, and then Anderson picks it back up.
Clark inside is fouled.
And they're going to look at that one as Clark went down.
Draymond Green immediately went to look to help him up after the foul.
Official signal they're going to look at it.
That's going to be a flagrant foul.
Yep, I agree, no question.
On the floor, it appears they haven't announced it yet.
James Williams told them that.
And Steve Kerr's reaction.
Yep, he's going back to Lockwood.
Wow, that is a huge call.
Face, impact to the face, to fall through to the jersey, and to throw down to the ground.
Wow.
Now you guys saw it right there.
Draymond Green, who was with the flagrant foul, ejected from this game after that flagrant foul was labeled a flagrant foul two.
He left the game after 17 minutes of action, six points, with three assists, three steals, and one block.
I mean, he was looking like he was on his way to having one of those classic triple-double types of games
where he puts up 10 points, 10 rebounds, maybe 12 assists with a ton of steals and a ton of blocks.
His activity was crazy.
He was all over the ball.
Even though early in this game the Warriors were down, it looked like at times it was his energy and effort that kept them in the game
with those small runs that stopped this Memphis team from blowing that lead up from 10 points to, let's say, 15 or 20 points.
But I really like how this Warrior team responded coming out of halftime.
I know a lot of people were wondering how would this team respond coming out the locker room,
especially with Ja Morant sinking a very, very tough shot to end the half, yelling out to Wiggins or at least Kaminga that he couldn't guard him.
I mean, all the momentum was on their side.
I believe that the Grizzlies came out with a little bit too much pride and confidence, and they weren't locked in on their assignments
because if you look at how this Golden State Warrior team was able to dismantle everything that the Grizzlies did,
they did it by oversharing the ball.
We saw extra pass after extra pass after extra pass, and they really put these young players on this Memphis team.
It really made them have to think about where to defend, how to defend.
And what I'm going to be looking forward to in game two Tuesday is how do they start to communicate on defense
because this team has relied on their youth and athleticism to make up for a lot of defensive mistakes all year.
Now it's time for them to activate their brains on the defensive side of the ball.
How can they use defensive IQ to outsmart this Golden State Warrior trio?
Because Jordan Poole has not cooled off yet from the previous series.
Steph Curry is still Steph Curry.
Klay Thompson is still pulling the trigger on some of the toughest shots in the game.
Draymond Green is probably going to come out next game with even more energy, locked in and laser focused.
And this Grizzly team can't afford to slip up and give up a game two.
Also at home and then going to Golden State down 0-2, expecting to win this series.
They've already put themselves in a hole down on one night.
They've given up home court advantage.
And I think the Warriors, this is exactly what they wanted to do.
They wanted to come in, steal home court advantage immediately.
They wanted to steal it immediately.
So now the series is in their favor and that's exactly what they wanted to do.
Just kind of going into this.
So, you know, Draymond Green has spoken about it all year long.
Steph Curry has spoken about it as well.
How they feel like they're the best team in the league.
They have not shied away from that.
They've constantly talked about it.
Steve Kerr has even alluded to it in his press conference.
But this Golden State Warrior team, they really feel as if they are the best team in the league.
And the onus is on these other teams to actually come out and outperform them and beat them.
And unfortunately for the Memphis Grizzlies in the playoffs,
it doesn't matter how many points you lose by.
One point or 20 points.
Once you lose, you lose.
And they've given up home court advantage in this one right here.
This has been a great day of basketball.
We also watched the Milwaukee Bucks give a thorough beat down to the Boston Celtics.
A game where I was really, really disappointed in how the Boston Celtics performed.
You know, after such an extended rest period, you're thinking that this team will come out a bit more focused.
But Giannis Antetokounmpo clearly looks like the best player in the NBA.
He separated himself.
The Celtics, who easily were able to slow down Kevin Durant, had absolutely no answers for Giannis Antetokounmpo.
So we're also going to be covering that series as well.
As we look to see how the Boston Celtics, who also gave up home court advantage,
how do they bounce back against a Bucks team that's missing their second best player in Chris Middleton.
But as you guys see right here, Golden State Warriors take this one home.
117 to 116 in dramatic fashion.
Wire to wire action came down to literally the last play.
And, you know, I want to leave you guys with one thought.
This playoffs, I feel like it's been dominated by refs who want to take over the game.
I've never seen so many foul calls.
I've never seen a playoffs where so many other star players are consistently getting into foul trouble time and time again.
Game after game after game.
And then in a game where they actually were allowing physical play, when Draymond Green makes a hard play on the ball,
we see that when he grabbed Clark's jersey on the way down, he made an attempt to hold him up.
We all know if you have two eyes, you all know that it wasn't intentional.
He didn't have any forethoughts or thoughts in his head with regards to hurting Clark.
Why would the refs dish out a flagrant two that could have easily controlled the outcome of this game?
But I think the refs in this particular case might have done the Warriors a service
because it activated the Warriors to that degree that we've seen them play, especially early in the year.
Steph Curry, laser focused, locked in on defense.
We see how he didn't shy away from that matchup against John Morant in the late game situation where he was able to get a crucial steal.
Clay Thompson, who has struggled to defend since coming back from these injuries all year.
Crucial stop on John Morant as John Morant went for the game winning layup right at the rim.
We watched the Minnesota Timberwolves lose in that exact same fashion.
So, again, I mean, a lot of tests are out there.
A lot of game within the game battles are happening.
And, you know, we're here at FYF Sports to discuss it all.
But we definitely have, again, big salute out to the Golden State Warriors.
Looking forward to see how this grizzly team bounces back after losing to the Golden State Warriors at home.
That's going to be key. And we have a lot more playoff games to come this week.
So make sure you guys stay tuned with FYF Sports because a lot of this NBA action, we got some NFL draft coverage coming soon.
All of this is going to be getting covered soon.
But it's FYF Sports, man. It's been another great podcast episode.
We will be back with more sports and news. But until then, it's FYF Sports.
Hey now, it's a new kid on the playground. So many bags on me, would've thought I would get spray ground.
Now they know I don't play around. I can hear what you're saying now.
I just doubled up my flight miles. Coast to coast, no they ain't in town.
