David: King of Israel

Well, we're on the City of David, which is this escarpment ridge that runs right down
the hill behind me.
You can see the valley over to the side.
This was a mountainous country.
And the City of David is the original Jerusalem.
David captured this city, conquering it from the Jebusites up a water shaft.
And then he took this ridgeway as a very, very well defended rocky outcrop.
And behind me are the ruins of his palace.
That's what's thought to be around 1000 BC, the palace that was built for King David to live in.
So this is where the king had his home.
And this is the small rocky outcrop that was Jerusalem, a very well defended hill fort.
And we're going to explore it a bit through the Hezekiah's tunnel and Warren's shaft.
An amazing complex of tunnels and caves.
The City of David, just outside Jerusalem.
