from day one and babies are born
learning their brains are growing and
developing at an amazing rate in the
first five years faster than any other
time in life and how a child's brain
develops in these early years will have
a huge and lasting impact on their
future at birth a baby brain is only a
quarter of the size of an adult brain
but will double in size during the first
year by age 3 it will grow to almost 80%
of adult size and 90% by the time a
child starts kindergarten and while the
brain is growing in size it's also
forming billions of connections these
connections between brain cells are what
really make the brain work and as the
child grows and develops the brain cells
connect with each other in more complex
ways different areas are responsible for
different abilities but they're all
interconnected they all contribute to
the child's overall health and
well-being
these early brain connections set the
stage for higher-level skills to develop
later on like motivation
focus problem-solving in getting along
with others things that really make a
difference in a person's ability to
learn and do well in school and in life
