Oil Painting Time Lapse Ocean with calm waves
Hi guys, thank you for joining me today for this painting video.
In this video, you're going to see me painting that ocean piece.
It's an oil on canvas, 18 by 24 inches, so it's larger than most of my work.
It's inspired by a beautiful local beach where I live.
Weirdly enough, the most challenging aspect of this painting was getting the horizon to be perfectly even.
So I ended up measuring it out and then taping a little string to the canvas to get it to be even and painting it that way.
But that was probably the most challenging part of the painting for me.
I've been trying to go to the beach more and take in all the good things about where I live.
And I felt compelled to paint the ocean.
I also decided to create this piece as something to hang in my home and not to sell.
It was painted on a canvas that sustained some minor damage when I was moving, unfortunately.
For that reason, I'm not going to be selling this original.
I like my originals that I have for sale to be in more pristine condition.
And because of the fact that it did sustain a little bit of damage, I'm not going to sell it.
I'm going to keep it for myself.
I'm probably going to hang it up in my living room.
As far as the timing goes, I spent about a week on this painting, working on it on and off gradually throughout the days.
I think towards the end of the piece, once I was applying more details, that's when it started to come alive for me.
And that's usually my favorite part of any painting, although I love every stage of painting.
But my favorite is the detail parts where you can really just breathe life into the painting and make it realistic.
From far away, it looks almost photographic, but the closer you get to it, the more it dismantles itself.
And the more painty it looks until you're so close and it's just a bunch of paint smushed together.
And that's really all a painting is.
When you look at a painting, you're not looking at an ocean.
Although you see an ocean back there, that's not an ocean.
It's a bunch of paint on a canvas.
It's creating an illusion.
That's something that I've always found super fascinating about painting ever since I was a kid.
Was that I could look at this painting and it looks like flowers or a landscape, you know, trees or an ocean.
But it's not.
It's actually just a bunch of paint that's been arranged elaborately in order to trick your mind into seeing the object that you think you're seeing.
So that's it for this painting.
I hope you enjoyed watching me create it.
I do have a color mixing demo for this piece coming to my Patreon page and ocean references that you can paint for yourself if you're interested.
Also, I'm doing a major summer sale in my art store right now.
I have new original paintings and prints that are available.
I haven't had new original paintings available in almost half a year.
And I probably won't again until November when I have my art show.
And you can also get 20% off of prints by using this discount code.
And that's going to be expiring on September 8th.
So all throughout that time, that discount code will be valid.
So thank you so much for watching, for joining me for this video.
I love sharing my art with you guys.
And I'm so thankful to have the chance to talk to you and share my paintings and share my art journey with you.
So thank you for being here along this journey with me.
Be sure to follow my Instagram.
I post a lot of art on there as well.
I love you all.
I hope you have a beautiful week.
And I'll see you next time.
Bye guys.
