This episode wraps up our travel series as we make the 4,000 km road trip across the country to our new home on Vancouver Island
After spending the last few months living on the road, we can't help but think back and reflect
on our journey so far. Our trip began in St. Catharines, Ontario where we packed up most of
our belongings and began to head west. At this point we had just completed the Dempster Highway,
making it all the way to the Arctic Ocean. We now find ourselves back in Dawson City
where we begin to prepare for the long journey to our new home on Vancouver Island.
Thursday morning, we're leaving Dawson City. We feel like locals because we've been here
so long now. We were just kind of waiting for a package to come in. We went to the post office
this morning, you know, I asked if it was here. She checked and she's like, oh like the package
you've been waiting for, it's actually been here like over a week but the way my last name was
spelled was incorrect so when I would show them my ID they were looking for MAC rather than MC
which was on the package. So we could have left yesterday but we took the time to just like do
laundry, wash the car, shower, all those things, do groceries. So we're leaving today, we have
everything we need, we're super excited. We have a six or so hour drive ahead of us to our next
destination. We are on our way to Faro, Yukon where we have an Airbnb booked. We're gonna go
stay there for a few days, hang out in the Yukon for a little bit longer and then we are going to
slowly make our way back to BC.
Water's ready.
Why are you by yourself? Bye dude. Where are you going? To the hot spring.
On a hot day. With children.
Parents. You find like the little pockets, some are too hot. Have fun.
It's warm and now that I'm in it's refreshing in a way, even on a hot day.
It's our bath for the day. First hot spring experience. We stopped in at Liard Hot Springs.
We are in BC now as of today and what did you think? Loved it. It was so beautiful there and
super refreshing. It's just a bunch of people taking a bath together pretty much. Some spots
are... It's just a little gem like in the mountain. It's pretty awesome. Yeah you do like a little 10
minute walk down this boardwalk and it is, I have to let you know, an electric fence all the way
around and can you guess that of the two of us who had to find out the hard way not to touch the
electric fence? All yours. The people in front of us, the people behind us, both were like oh shit
like what happened? What happened? But I stuck my pinky out like a little bit too far and just
shocked my whole arm but it's not, it doesn't hurt. It just scares the sh** out of you but yes nice little
hidden oasis. We had to leave diesel in the car. It's kind of hot today. We just cranked all the
windows down and parked in the shade, got in, enjoyed it for a hot second and then got out
and now we're hanging out in the parking lot having a cucumber and a beer.
We haven't done... Name a better duo. Cucumber and a beer. We haven't done a real grocery run in a while
so we're kind of dwindling on our food supply. We are in BC again. I think we explored pretty much
all of the Yukon territory. There was like one highway that we just didn't do. I think the
Kanole Highway but everything else we spent a whole month exploring the area and it was beautiful.
It was awesome. Definitely worth checking out if you're doing a road trip up this way. So we had a
much needed break at the cabin this past weekend but unfortunately it ended in a little bit of a
tragedy. As we were leaving I decided to get some nice drone shots of Atlanta going through the
forest, on the road, you know just a nice scenic view for these videos and my last shot I started
backing up slowly about 50 feet up. It backed into a tree and if you can see this gimbal, the camera,
kind of the important part of the entire drone decided to
break so it's not functioning at the moment. Thankfully I have the care package so I can just
send it off and hopefully it's not an issue getting it back but unfortunately no drone
I don't even know the last time I wore like a real bra. It's either sports bra or no bra.
What are you doing dude? So this is a spare tire we got in Inuvik and why did we get this thing?
Okay everyone recommended to get a spare tire when you're going to do the Dempster Highway.
So we had originally completed the Dempster Highway all the way up north
and then just because on the way back I was like you know what I'll just get one I'll see if I can
get one just in case you never know. Of course we never had to use it so it's just in this
ratty tire bag but it's been carted along with us for the last I don't know how many thousand
kilometers or so and every day we have to put it outside either under the car or off to the side
and it just gets all wet and dewy. So we have to clean it off and shove it back there with diesel
which I'm sure he doesn't enjoy but yeah. If you know anyone that needs a spare tire
I paid 250 bucks for it I can't just get rid of it. It's a souvenir from Inuvik. And it's a winter
tire so if I put it on with the rest it's gonna sound terrible. But we have a spare tire. Yeah
Just in case. Just in case. So we ran out of water this morning so we're just filling up. It's always
fun trying to find your water source along the road. Sometimes it's a lake sometimes it's a
water fountain and sometimes it's the station here. It's the little things that you don't really think
about. We actually go through so much water between the three of us you don't really realize it until
you have it in these jugs. We're just leaving Fort Nelson and just got some water and that
and we found out that there was a Tim Hortons. So we got our wraps. It's been so long. It's been so long.
We think since at Vailmont which was just outside of Mount Robson. So that's like over a month ago.
It's delicious. It is. It's so good. Everything we expected and more.
Today was a lot of driving. We started in just outside of Fort Nelson. Parker Lake which is a
really nice spot. Pretty much had the whole lake to ourselves. It was super nice and calm and we
got on the road. We drove for most of the day. Made a couple little pit stops here and there. Went on
a nice little hike. But yeah we are just past Dawson Creek. Found a nice little spot. There's a river
just over there. Maybe we'll explore that in the morning. Gonna make some food
and probably get in to go to bed because I'm tired. We're tired.
Two hours later.
We are in Pemberton and unfortunately yesterday we called it quits for our vehicle. It's been
giving us too many issues. Sorry for the bus and the truck. We're on a main road. We're on the
just off the Sea to Sky Highway at the Visitor Center. So yes we called it quits. There's too
many issues with our car and we made the decision to get it towed to Vancouver. Get on the ferry
and then drive it straight on through to Campbell River. Fingers crossed things work out and we can
drive it. But it's not very safe to be driving it on this highway right now just because it's
a bit busier and it's more mountainous. So we're kind of going up and down and just because the
brakes and the steering are giving us issues we would just rather be safe. So yeah yesterday was
kind of a crazy day and a loss in the family as well on top of everything. So it's been a little
stressful. So we just relaxed yesterday and today we're just kind of waiting for our rides. My
cousin is driving up right now to pick Diesel and I up and then we have CAA coming to pick up Kyle
in the car and they're all going to meet in Vancouver. So it's uh it's been fun in a way
you know figuring things out. It's a puzzle. It is a puzzle and just problem solving and
it's the way of the roads. Although we hit a few bumps in the road everything worked out in the end
and we made the best of it. What an absolutely incredible experience this has been. After
watching this series we hope you can take away one thing. Whatever your adventure may be we
encourage you to take it. We're getting on this ferry about to start another chapter in our lives
and we are so excited to take you along with us.
