We leave everything for an endless journey on the back of Falkor, our BMW GS 800 🐉🏍 Follow our adventures in search of meetings and exchange of services 🤝
A few days later
Let go of everything.
Start on the roads.
No destination, no time limit.
And let yourself be carried away by the unexpected.
Because when nothing is planned, anything is possible.
This is the plan.
But before telling you more, let us introduce ourselves.
We are Vincenata.
33 years and more than half of our lives shared side by side.
Yes, we love life, travel and especially beautiful encounters.
Our passion? Travel the world in different ways.
Backpack
Sailboat
Tandem
And this time, it will be on the back of Falkor.
So we started a year ago to prepare and dream this new trip
that will allow us to combine meetings, freedom and adventure.
So yes, we know that this uncertain world situation is not very conducive to planning a trip around the world,
but we don't care.
Improvisation will be the key word.
But before we can set sail, we had to settle 6 important points.
Ok, it's nice to want to go on a motorcycle trip.
But first of all, we need a beast capable of transporting us both and our stuff.
A mount that would not be afraid of heat or cold,
that would love the dirt as much as the asphalt
and that would offer us a bit of comfort for our 30-year-old carcasses.
So we search the stories of motorcycle trips and YouTube channels
in order to find a reliable model for 2 mechanics novices
and we start to put alerts on the websites of small ads.
On August 1, 2020, I find a BMW GS 800 at the other end of Switzerland.
And after 5 hours by train, here I am in front of the beast.
After a quick test, the contract is signed.
The money is exchanged and the BMW is ours.
All that remains is to baptize it, equip it and learn to drive it.
The countdown begins.
Ah yeah, this step, we can say that we can't really escape it.
For the license, Vince already has it, so I have to get active.
I have a few months to master Falkor and pass my practice
because the rules in Switzerland are changing
and would force us to bind this poor beast that we are going to overload.
The beginnings are complicated.
The bike is heavy and especially super high.
From the top of my 1.68m, I barely touch the ground
and the balance during the maneuvers is intimidating.
But as the saying goes, if your dream doesn't scare you, it's because it's not big enough.
So I go.
Well, it's not won.
My first fall.
But it's not time to give up.
I get back on my feet.
April 20, 2021.
After a shock training prepared by Vince,
I pass my practice as usual.
Congratulations, you have received an A.
Woohoo, thank you!
With the license in my pocket, serious things can start.
So, we admit, on this point, we did well the psychos.
With an excellent board, with weight, width, height, folded size, unfolded.
Referring to dozens of different models of tents, sleeping bags and mattresses.
Finally, we come across a Swiss brand that charms us on all sides.
As we don't really know if we are going to very hot or very cold countries,
we choose our gear very carefully.
We unpack the shop and we are ready to go in autonomy to the end of the world.
We find our new house, our kitchen, etc.
Ah, they tell me in the pillow that we have nothing to carry this stuff on our motorcycle.
Falkor is unfortunately not yet equipped in the trunk.
After watching dozens of hours of videos on YouTube in search of the perfect model,
we come across an opportunity at the other end of Switzerland.
They don't close very well, they are not badly used.
But our positive mind tells us that it should be fine.
Like amateur floaters breakers,
we invent locksmiths the time of an afternoon
to change and re-code the locks of our suitcases.
There is no escape room that can resist us after that.
Well, we have both the license, the motorcycle, the bivouac gear
and more or less luggage for a travel test.
We leave only 15 km from home and despite the short distance, the adventure can begin.
Verdict, the UBM suitcases are a bit limited in size,
we still don't have enough to carry everything we want to take for a long trip.
We continue our searches on the net and trade our suitcases for larger ones.
The Romanian brand Heavy Duties sends us our new suitcases in a few days
and after testing them in skates, we really prefer to mount them on Falkor.
But hey, don't dream, it's not with 2x48L that we will be able to take our summer, winter,
kitchen, video stuff, etc.
This is where we discover the French brand Zulupac
and that we find in their assortment absolutely all the waterproof bags we need
to load Falkor like a mule.
We give you the details, but we were extremely hot with our order
because the bags were stuck in customs for several days.
Small setback!
So that after tons of calls, emails and back and forth,
we will receive them exactly the day of our departure.
So chance does things well.
But we will come back to it a little later during our departure.
We install with Sylvain an external 7L tank
to no longer fear breakdown and increase the autonomy of the bike to more than 420km.
A beautiful afternoon of DIY to make home-made parts in his Alibaba cave.
Thank you buddy!
In parallel, we continue to find boxed gear bought in the four corners of Switzerland.
We do the service of the 30,000 kg of Falkor at our Urfer partner in Sion
and we spend the morning in the garage where we learn a little more about mechanics
and the important points to keep in mind during our trip.
A beautiful morning of learning with exciting enthusiasts.
July 2021.
We set our official departure date on August 1 and everything speeds up.
The last pieces of the puzzle are in place.
We empty the apartment and continue to sell our useless things on a daily basis.
We move towards this voluntary minimalism,
symbol of a life less filled with objects and more filled with precious moments shared.
Finally, on July 27 in the morning,
the bell rings and our Zulupak waterproof bags are there.
Not a minute to lose.
We try for the first time to fill them and thus discover if what we had imagined works.
The bags are perfect.
And religiously, we charge for the first time Falkor with all his mess of junk.
We step on the gas and leave the valley towards Geneva to meet family and friends before the big departure.
The crossing of the Lavaux directs us right in front of us and we already feel like we are traveling.
We make the most of these last moments by making the most of love,
because we know that they will be the driving force behind this new great two-wheel adventure.
Then comes the moment of departure.
We are on the first road.
Our families and friends are by our side or in thought.
Around us and in our heads, it is the effervescence.
Our nephew turns this bottle compass.
And after a tour on the map, our first direction is indicated.
We will go west.
The rain falls, our heads turn and it's time to say goodbye to those we love.
At 3.15 p.m., we forge Falkor and in a mechanical rumble, we take off for new adventures.
No plan, no duration, just one direction, the west.
And like the knights of modern times, we disappear behind the horizon.
In this case, a bush cut to perfection.
The first quilles slide on the counter.
We cross the border and there, an ocean of possibilities opens up to us.
When nothing is planned, anything is possible.
But all this is another story.
you
