4th episode since our departure from Switzerland on August 1, 2021. We travel along the south of France, from the Camargue to Sète, before stopping in Balaruc-Les-Bains for a few days. It's a storm and we're braving some floods and bad weather. From there, we discover the magnificent city of Montpellier before taking the road towards the South-West. Our Tom Tom Rider 550 GPS takes us again and again, through increasingly smaller roads, where our motorcycle has difficulty slipping through with our travel gear. We stop at the “death” bivouac at the Couleuvre belvedere, located near Narbonne. We spend a terrifying night with people who come to shoot next to our tent, others who come to frolic. On the other hand, we received a positive response for our first exchange of services via the Workaway site. After this night of horror, we leave in bad ass cinematic mode, passing through the village of Gruissan, then driving to the Pyrénées-Orientales 🤩 We land in La Taillède for 2 incredible months of exchange and sharing with the wonderful Cooper family. After this timeless experience, we hit the road again towards the Ariège Pyrenees to meet a friend. We ride through incredible landscapes in the middle of autumn! The trees are multicolored and mingle with the snow which is just emerging on the Col du Puymorens! Sylvain welcomes us to his magical yurt and after a few days in paradise we continue towards Andorra! But all that is another story. / - On August 1, 2021, we began a new stage in our lives: the discovery of this world aboard Falkor, our BMW GS 800. Traveling slowly, simply, without a return date and meeting inspiring people/organizations, who live in symbiosis with our planet. Carry out volunteer work and exchange of services by offering our skills or our time for projects that speak to us. The main thing is to let ourselves be carried away by the spontaneity of the trip and bivouac under the stars in harmony with nature.
After these adventures through mountains, valleys, gorges, rivers, waterfalls, and finally by the sea, here we are along the Mediterranean coast.
The year of Nata is coming to a close and we want to rest for a few days without having to carry all our stuff with us.
It's time for a drink!
We walk along the sea passing some nice spots and we decide to land in Balaruc-les-Bains, located just north of Sète.
Indeed, arriving in this small Venetian Venice, we feel the right vibes and we fall under the charm, despite the heat.
We land in our AirBnB and the luck is that the next day it's stormy.
The times we have to go out, we transform Balcor into a submarine.
We are very happy to be dry and to know that if we go out, we can dry all our stuff easily.
The day of Montagny, we decide to discover Montpellier and we don't regret it for a second.
The city is beautiful and we walk in its small streets full of history.
This city is so beautiful! Long live Montpellier!
We find ourselves again on a big sanitary antipass.
We go from the hustle and bustle of the center to the calm of the oriental parks.
After these few days in Balaruc, we get back on the road and we cross the southern coast of France.
As in the last episode, we became a bit nudist, we quickly pass by the Cap d'Agde.
More for the joke than for the beach.
We set up our GPS so that it avoids the main roads.
But sometimes we have the impression that it exaggerates a bit.
And with our load, we barely pass the small alleys that we encounter.
Or even the stone paths for hikers.
Our itinerary to the southwest continues.
And one evening, while we are looking for a place to sleep in Narbonne,
we pass in front of a magnificent hill that catches our eye.
We tell ourselves that this will be the perfect place to sleep and we start the search.
We are on a small paved road with superb views of the plain.
And little by little, the road turns into a dirt and stone trail.
It's sure, we must be in the right direction.
From time to time, we reach hard trunks and finally we reach the top of the Belvédère de la Couleur.
The location for the night looks perfect.
No one around, no rain, hidden from the road.
A flat space for the tent and Falkor next to us.
We cook a little dish.
And to top it all off, we get a positive response for our first experience of exchange of services with the Workaway site.
We are going to eat quinoa with pomegranate, tomatoes and small olives.
But they are not nuts.
We just talked to Ali and Matt, who are our future first hosts of Workaway.
They are mega, mega cute.
We can't wait to meet them.
I feel like it's going to be a great experience.
Ok, the tent is set up.
Falkor is here and the rain is coming.
In short, the hosts are aligned for us and one thing is certain, tonight we are going to sleep well.
Once again, our poor protagonists were wrong.
Just look at their heads when they wake up to understand.
I think we didn't sleep very well.
No, it wasn't a good spot at all.
I'm going to go cut some cucumber slices right now.
I think the prophecy that every time we say something, it's the other way around was more than correct.
That's true.
We sat down at this place and we said,
Damn, it's so good.
There is no one.
There is no wind.
It's not raining.
And I say, our mattress is the minimum size.
It is too comfortable.
It's super good for long-term travel.
Result that you can see on our screens.
We didn't sleep at night.
There are guys who came to shoot next to us.
There are others who came to have fun.
And then the mattress on Vince's side, he knows where to put it.
Normal.
Not normal.
He emptied himself all night.
So sleeping on the hard one, it's relaxing.
So we stop talking, we don't say anything anymore.
And we live the moment without commenting it.
Otherwise, the opposite happens.
The rain starts to fall again and we decide to fold the camp.
Hardened as ever by this bad night, we go into badass cinematic mode.
Once the rain stops far behind us, we go to visit the strange village of Gruisan.
And its chalets on Piloti that make us think for a moment that we are in the bayou in the middle of Louisiana.
We pass between these chalets and then continue our road towards Perpignan.
We are about to settle down for a while in an English family living in the heights of the small village of Corsavie, located in the eastern Pyrenees.
We drive, we go up, we discover this small village with an intriguing look.
Because we know that if all goes well, these unknown places will become our new home for the weeks to come.
We find the road leading to La Taillade and follow it through this enchanted forest.
After 4 minutes of track, we discover this impressive residence and we are welcomed by the guardian of the places.
We watch out for the body and meet Ali, Matt, Oléa and Simi.
From there, an extraordinary life experience will be born with this magnificent family and their beautiful gilt project.
In less than 24 hours, we go from the hellish bivouac of the Couleuvre to the paradise of La Taillade.
This is also the beauty of travel.
You never know where you're going to end up and that's what's most exciting about the choice of life we've made today.
Spoiler alert, we're going to spend two months in La Taillade.
So we decided to release a full episode dedicated to this first great service exchange experience via the Workaway website.
A huge thank you to the incredible Cooper family for growing our family from the heart.
After these two magical months of sharing, we decided against our will to get back on the road.
We miss the trip and we want to go to softer latitudes to spend the winter there.
In addition, one day we have a crazy laugh telling us that we have been away from home for 3 months and that we are only 6h30 from our starting point.
But for us, it's not the distance that counts but the experiences experienced.
And we can say that with this start of the trip, we had some great experiences.
Our last stop in France will be in the Pyrénées-Arièges.
Sylvain, a friend-motorbike met in a travel film festival in 2018, offers us to see it before heading south.
On November 6, we make our longest step on the back of Falkor.
Almost all of our possessions are on the back of Falkor.
At the same time, we feel minimalist in view of the apartment we have left and the things we have sold or given.
And at the same time overloaded, so our business pyramid is imposing.
We'll see if we split up on the way. Only time and experience will tell.
More than 5 hours non-stop to ride in magical landscapes, all packed like sardines.
Well, less blabla, we let you enjoy the flamboyant colors of autumn in the Pyrénées.
The further we go, the more the thermometer goes down.
And here is a second record for this memorable journey.
The snow appears at the turn of a bend and we admire these landscapes of madness between white and sparkling.
At our arrival, we have a sore body, but a warm heart.
Sylvain welcomes us with his big smile and our curvatures disappear instantly.
We discover his cocoon and make our bed for a few days.
He introduces us to Pao, his acolyte, and Bernie, his companion.
We share great moments, meals and stories on the roads of the world with this passionate and exciting couple.
These shared travel dreams bring us closer and make a beautiful friendship.
Thank you friends and the pleasure one day to ride with you on this beautiful planet.
These few days in the woods allow us to enjoy the autumnal colors a little more
and to chill to the max in this yurt straight out of a Pinterest dream.
On November 9, it's time for us to set sail and leave France after 3 and a half months of beautiful discoveries and experiences.
By heading towards a new frontier, we feel happy with our choice of nomadic life on two wheels.
The bike gives us a great freedom to stop where we want and to go fast if we want to quickly change landscape or climate.
Before crossing the third frontier of this trip, Vince takes some drone shots while I empty my bladder at the bottom of the road.
As I go up, I notice a car throwing passengers on the same slope and leaves.
We will watch this little choreography three more times until Vince finally recovers our mosquito and cuts his finger with the propeller.
We reinforce Falkor and we see in the background these men trying so hard to cross the border illegally in order to arrive in this tax haven.
But all this is another story.
