Many people are looking for an alternative to ibuprofen to tackle inflammation.
Are there any herbs that can help achieve the same effect?
Here's Gina Marie with StrongMindedBody.
Ibuprofen is effective against inflammation, but it has adverse effects and can lead to
long-term complications. There are several well-studied anti-inflammatory herbs that you
can consider trying. Of course, talk to your doctor first, but these are two of the most
Turmeric accounts for the yellow color of curry and American mustard and has a distinct,
sharp flavor. Turmeric is often used to address inflammatory disorders such as arthritis,
tendinitis, and autoimmune conditions. Turmeric extracts are available in tablets or capsules,
but whole turmeric is more effective than isolated curcumin, its major constituent.
Don't use turmeric if you have gallstones or bile duct dysfunction.
Pregnant women shouldn't use it without their doctor's approval.
In rare cases, extended use can cause stomach upset or heartburn.
You won't get the full effects for two months, so be consistent.
Make sure the product includes black pepper extract.
This helps to ensure optimal absorption from the gut.
The second option you can try is ginger.
Powdered dry ginger is an effective anti-inflammatory agent.
A 2020 review found that ginger could lower blood levels of C-reactive protein,
high-sensitivity C-reactive protein, and tumor necrosis factor alpha.
This sounds complicated, but to put it simply, these are all markers for inflammation.
As with turmeric, be patient. The full benefits also take two months to develop.
You can take these two herbs in combination.
In addition to herbs, you can also take dietary steps to reduce inflammation.
The specific fats in your diet affect the way the body makes certain hormones that regulate
inflammation. Eliminate polyunsaturated vegetable oils, margarine, vegetable shortening,
all partially hydrogenated oils, and all foods that contain trans fatty acids.
Instead, for your main fats, use extra virgin olive oil or avocado oil.
Also, increase your intake of omega-3 fatty acids.
These are found in oily cold-water fish,
freshly ground flax seeds, expeller-pressed flaxseed oil, or walnuts.
