Here are three giraffes standing on the banks of the Oelefants river
and they look like they might be about to have a drink.
They're obviously very nervous, perhaps it's crocodiles they're afraid of
and giraffes are always weary of being ambushed while they're having a drink.
Soon however it emerges that it is not a drink that the giraffes want,
rather they want to get to the other side.
Now the reason they are so nervous about this is, as I said before,
they're probably afraid of crocodiles but at the same time
these rivers in South Africa are seldom smooth below,
especially at the relatively shallow points like this one.
The giraffe will be walking on uneven rocks,
I've no doubt they'd be very nervous of slipping and falling over in the water
and if that did happen they'd most likely never be able to get up again.
So they have to be very very careful as they ford what is a very wide river
for this part of the world and quite strongly flowing as well.
In the end all works out okay and the giraffe have made it to the other side
where hopefully greener pastures await.
