In a quiet village, nestled in the foothills of the Himalayas, there lived a young boy,
named Anorak. Anorak was a kind-hearted guy and had many friends. He would trust everyone very
easily and share his secrets. Often, his secrets were being revealed and everyone would gossip
behind him. It was making him very sad and disappointed, but he didn't know how to deal
with such people. One day, he heard that there is a monk near the village who is known for his
profound wisdom and ability to bring clarity to the minds of all who sought his guidance.
He was so troubled by gossips and negativity around him that he decided to talk to the monk,
hoping for some help. One sunny morning, he left the village. He went to see the monk to get advice
and found him meditating under a tree. The gentle breeze was rustling the leaves of the tree.
Anorak was silently looking to the monk meditating, without disturbing him.
When the monk opened his eyes, Anorak greeted him and said,
Oh master, my heart is heavy with despair. In my village, everyone is gossiping about me.
I have many friends, I trusted them and shared my secrets, but even them talk negative about me.
I find it increasingly difficult to stay in the village as the atmosphere is filled with toxicity.
The monk listened intently to Anorak and replied,
Son, I understand your trouble and I shall reveal to you the path to dealing with such people.
There are three types of people you should never share your secrets with,
because they will always hurt you. The first type are the gossipers.
They enjoy spreading rumors and talking bad about others. Gossipers have too much idle time on their
hands and usually don't have any hobbies or activities they could be doing instead of
rumor-mongering. Anorak nodded, realizing the danger of trusting secrets to such people.
The monk continued, The second type are the manipulators. They learn about your weaknesses
and use it against you or exploit it for their personal gain.
They show that they want to help you, but their purpose is to control you.
Once you let manipulative people in your life, they can be extremely hard to get rid of.
So avoid such people and ignore everything they do or say. By setting your own beliefs
and holding onto them strongly, you will prevent manipulative people from affecting your life.
Anorak's eyes widened after listening the monk, as he realized, indeed, there are many people
with manipulative behavior around him. Lastly, the monk concluded, Be aware of
jealous people. They harbor bitterness and hatred. You should know that these people's jealousy
is usually caused by their insecurities, and they will always try to upstage you.
Your secrets can be their ammunition to criticize you and undermine your happiness.
You should set boundaries, to distance yourself from jealous people.
Anorak had a newfound feeling of caution. He understood that not everyone could be trusted
and promised to be careful about whom he would confide in.
From that day, Anorak became selective in sharing his secrets. He learned to differentiate between
those who cared for him and those who would take advantage of his weaknesses.
He focused on people that truly supported him and started actively pushing against all the
boundaries that others tried to set for him. By keeping his secrets, he shielded himself
from unnecessary sadness and maintained his confidence. Monk's words remained in Anorak's
memory, warning him that some secrets are best to be kept within one's own heart.
