We spent the day exploring a part of Provence, France, known as The Luberon. This wonderful, historic area is full of quaint villages on scenic hilltops overlooking the French countryside.
I make outdoor adventure travel videos to inspire you to take your next trip and get outdoors. Life is short and there are so many interesting people, places and things to learn about and experience. Join me on my journey, SUBSCRIBE AND become a part of Team Infamous.
My name is Jesse St Louis (AKA Infamous JSL) and I'm an actor that likes to go on awesome adventures between gigs. I've been called a "no frills Bear Grylls" but mostly I've been called an Actor. Traveler. Smart-ass.
Good morning from Cadenais, France. Here in the historical Provence region in southeastern France.
Just noticed this fountain built in 1806 across from the Airbnb we're staying at.
Look at this. Just walked out the door today and we're staying right over there.
Apparently the fountain was a major milestone for for women in this small village because before
the creation of these fountains they had to travel long distances to do the washing.
I just wanted to give you a taste of Cadenais today as we explore several other areas of Provence.
Yesterday was quite a rainy and cold day. Here's another fountain.
So you can tell this village was built long before cars were ever invented and they are
quite delightful to walk down but very stressful to drive through. So yesterday we took a tour of a
nearby truffle farm and so that was really cool to get the full history of how he ended up farming
truffles and got to see the dogs find the truffles and was a fascinating experience. Got to do
a little sampling tasting of some truffle little truffle hors d'oeuvres.
But this whole region of Provence which technically the actual region is Provence
Alpes Côte d'Azur it's like combines a couple other regions but historically the region of
Provence here southeastern France has a massive and varied history. The Romans came through the
so a lot of influences on the architecture and just such an amazing region.
Now we're in the small town of Apt about half an hour away from Cadenais hoping to find some
some lunch before we check in to our next place and do some more exploring around Provence.
All right. All right. Okay. Sam's very happy to eat lunch but they have limited options for me
so she will enjoy some kind of potato cheese pie thing and I will enjoy a salad.
We saw this maze remember in that other village and I thought it was a flower maze.
Yeah it's for water. You can put flowers in there as well. They really did make something
delicious for me though here. Mixed salad with rice and Sam's potato pie with cheese thing but
look it just looks amazing. See how it tastes.
So now we're at the ochre cliffs of Roussant which is an old area where they used to mine
ochre which is this reddish orangish pigment that you can see you can see they used to
incorporate in the building of the houses in the town and so that the outside the stucco the
exterior has the same color as this ochre. It's a very popular tourist attraction here.
Tons of tour buses. Tons of people. But you can get ice cream. You can get an ice cream cone
at the ochre cliffs and Sam is probably going to do that. But if you're Jesse you don't like
to wait in line for 10-20 minutes behind hordes of tour buses to see nature. But it is beautiful.
If you can ignore all the people. So we have seen the ochre cliffs and now we go see Roussant.
So far it's a little too crowded for me. I prefer Apt and Cadenet.
I don't understand why some towns in Provence seem to be a lot more popular. I guess this has
the cliffs the ochre cliffs so that makes it a a must stop for the buses and the masses.
But like Cadenet and maybe Apt gets crowded. It was a bigger town but when we were there for lunch
hardly anyone there. But I just... something about being overrun by tour buses and tourists
like steals the charm of these these quaint little villages. But the good thing is there
are plenty of other lesser known villages or lesser trafficked villages I guess that are
just as beautiful and have just as much character and charm.
We're about to check out this place called the Rock of Sagnon but it's starting to rain and
we don't know if we want to be in the rain. We just went shopping at an organic market called
Bayeux. We bought all that stuff and then Sam says she doesn't know if she wants to cook dinner.
And then proceeded to look at pictures and menus of local restaurants. So then she said
we could cook that tomorrow. I got these hazelnut things which are vegan but they do not taste as
good as they look and they are much smaller. So that's the update. It's asparagus season.
There's tomatoes. The bread is good. Some vegan yogurt for breakfast. But who knows if we'll be
eating this right now. Who knows if we'll be ending our day looking at the Rock of Sagnon.
Kind of looks like it's gonna keep raining. And we did persevere through the rain yesterday.
So should we do it again today? I don't know. Well the whole point is to climb to the on top
of this rock thing which now is going to be wet. So we're not going to be able to... I don't know
if you can climb. I read you could climb to the top. Oh okay. But obviously probably not a good
idea in the rain. I don't know. That looks good right? Is that pasta? That doesn't look as good
as what you can whip up with these amazing vegetables you have in the back seat. Infamous.
