This is a giant train we designed and built.
Of course, it can take off, too.
I've flown tanks, carriers and bikes before.
This time I've added flying trains to the list.
But it's not really that easy for a train to fly.
The whole car can't generate lift on its own.
This is another challenge to our design skills and aerodynamic fundamentals.
The first option I came up with was to add a wing to each carriage.
But slowly it didn't feel right.
Isn't that a centipede?
It's a pass.
The second option is to put all the power and control systems in the front of the car
The carriages act as an unusually long tail.
And slowly I realised it was becoming more and more like something else.
It's a kite.
I've decided to change my mind.
Let's try it with a kite.
We can even dock at the Weifang space station
I shouldn't have much trouble flying a train.
The kite could be more restorative in size and length.
Build an unmanned aerial vehicle.
I'm good at it, but I don't really know how to fly a kite.
So this time I took the plan and went for outside help.
Help me Master Weifang.
This time first go to learn the technology
I might be able to do it myself next time.
There's a master on board.
I decided to just go straight to the whole biggest car length of 10 metres
A giant train with a height of 1.8 metres.
This size is not the limit of the teacher
It's the limit of my wallet.
If you zoom in a little more, it'll look exactly like the real thing.
Can we get two more on either side of this tyre?
It looks like a railway track when it's lit.
It's okay.
It's just a little complicated.
Well, then it's still possible.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
I thought at first I'd need 3D modelling.
Make a construction drawing or something.
The master took two pictures and started working straight away.
I was stunned.
The first step in kite making.
The main frame of the flying train is all bamboo.
I was just starting to wonder if carbon fibre would work.
And then I realised that some of the details are only can be bamboo.
Otherwise, the curvature of the details won't come out.
Tying up a small frame
Splice them into the larger body.
Make a complete train
Head and tail wires running through
Kevlar is used to connect the ropes.
There's no mistaking it. It's body armour.
The same Kevlar.
Giant kites fly with hundreds of kilos of tension
It's not something you'd expect ordinary materials to be able to withstand.
The whole frame is ready for gluing.
This time we use the printed fabric.
You can skip the colouring process
Reduced working time
Covering the entire train still took over a week.
The size is just too large.
Plus, there are many detailed pipes.
Finally, it's time for the exciting launch phase.
A 10-meter-long train is hard to transport,
so we split it into two sections.
We assemble it on site.
Here's a lock that allows detaching into two parts.
that allows detaching into two parts.
Otherwise, at 10 meters long,
it wouldn't fit in most vehicles.
You might think it's ready to take off,
but it's not that simple.
All the kites were lying on the ground, basking in the sun, waiting for wind.
The train head alone weighs nearly 200 pounds.
Some might wonder,
how can the train head
fly without wings?
In fact, most kites without wings require something called a pilot kite.
They rely entirely on the pilot kite to lift them into the air.
Of course, the trailing carriages can also provide some lift.
We spent the whole day testing under the sun like this.
We replaced one pilot kite after another.
Finally, at 4 PM, it successfully lifted off.
But it only lasted 60 seconds.
Then the wind died down,
and it never took off again.
The train is too heavy.
For wind speeds,
It has high requirements.
But taking off is still achievable.
We'll amaze everyone at the Weifang Kite Festival.
Directly going to amaze the scene.
Okay.
We can prepare for takeoff now.
This kite weighs over 100 pounds.
I don't know if it's the largest one here,
but it's definitely the heaviest.
Are you ready?
Initiate takeoff!
How do you like the effect? Will you give it a like, comment, and share?
How many of you saw it live?
It looks amazing flying,
but it's really heavy.
You wouldn't know we spent days flying it for just one minute of footage
To achieve the visual effec
the size was made too large,
resulting in a significant weight excess
making it very difficult to take off.
It takes at least four people to lift it.
We took the train out seven times,
only three times it successfully flew.
Those three times made this one-minute footage.
Thanks to the masters who helped build and fly it.
It took over a month to build.
I couldn't have done it alone.
That's all for the flying train this time.
Thank you for your likes and support.
Your support is my biggest motivation.
I'm Pudding,
see you in the next video. Bye.
