Little Wild Horse Canyon is one of the most accessible and most frequently visited slot
canyons in the state of Utah. With tight narrows and serpentine twists it's an awesome hike.
After just 100 yards the walls start to rise 50 to 75 feet overhead and the wash will start to
narrow. An interesting aspect about the narrows of Little Wild Horse is that some sections are
while others wind tightly back and forth showing the power of the flash floods that scour the canyon
after each hard rain. This loop trail is about eight miles long and takes approximately four
All right. Okay even looking up doesn't help much. There's an ankle breaker right down here.
Your feet don't even touch the ground. No. What does that mean? You really don't even fit in.
Halfway there. Four miles done. Four miles to go and the start of Bell Canyon.
The small settlement of Fruita inside the park has more than 2,500 fruit trees
some of which were originally planted by the Mormon pioneers.
So we stopped by the Gifford house to buy some fresh baked pies.
Dickman bridge is a huge natural arch spanning 133 feet wide and 125 feet tall.
Along the trail to the arch you'll find black basalt boulders if I'm saying that right. These
boulders were produced in volcanic activity more than 20 million years ago. The boulders
were then transported by flash floods and debris flows and possibly glacial processes
to their present locations.
I have to say yep rice is uh spectacular. I like the multiple layers. You can see one two three
But in the meantime we started down there on the lower left.
Can't really see where they go. A couple people. So we gotta get to the top of that.
We went up about four rows of switchbacks there and now looking at this is one two three four
about a dozen. I guess this is where we get another 600 feet or so.
All right you ready? Yeah the other thing is if someone's on a chain
wait till they go to the next chain so they're not yanking us in your hands.
Oh I didn't even realize we still have to go along.
So
I've been out looking. He wouldn't try to enjoy the view but figured it was too much.
I made it. Almost. Oh is that it? Almost. I know that's what I thought too. I looked at this flat
spot and I was like oh this is it. Then I seen there was more.
from the Wire Pass trailhead we can access one of the longest and deepest continuous slot canyons
in the world, Buckskin Gulch, which passes through roughly 20 miles of unique Navajo
sandstone formations, sometimes rarely more than 10 feet wide, and the corridor can be hundreds
of feet deep making it challenging to see the blue skies. There's a petroglyph at the
base of a large alcove on the right about two miles in.
So
that's like a 20 mile trail that way. We're not going to do that.
We're going to go this way on a six mile.
We're on our way to see some toadstools.
There it is. One, two, three.
Boy look at the, you got to come see this too. Look at the gap underneath there.
So it's not even sitting all the way on it. It's, it's got little pedestals that are left
and gaps in the sand.
You don't even know what a space movie is. Okay, true. Fair enough.
I have seen a couple.
you
