another day SKIING at SNOWBIRD! :D

Good morning squad.
Welcome to another episode of season four.
We are back up here in Little Cottonwood Canyon.
They've opened up so much terrain
since the last time we were here.
The last time we were here was the powder day
and there was 18 trails open
and now there is like 94 trails.
So all of Mineral Basin is open.
The Cirque is open.
They just opened Gadd too.
So you guys asked me where's the best skiing right now
and it is by hands down up in Little Cottonwood Canyon.
We don't have a ton of time today
and I'll have stuff to do
and you know how it goes.
Just get a late start sometimes coming out here.
So it's gonna be speed run at the Bird
but I am out here with Joe
because every time I say I'm going to Snowbird,
he's like a bloodhound
and he starts to get this scent.
Like, wait, you're going to the Bird?
And the next thing you know, his stuff is in the van
and he's sitting in the passenger seat.
So hopefully get around some more gnarly terrain.
It's kind of a beautiful day, Friday.

Enjoy this beautiful day and thank you for coming to Snowbird.
I really do feel like the top of Snowbird here
is such this interesting place
because I feel like it's either
A, an incredible whiteout, extreme winds,
the fact that you can't even see,
or it's just like this incredibly beautiful
visibility for days place.
It's like either one or the other.
So it's pretty, just pretty incredible.
And today is definitely the latter.
So the fact that you can see all the way down
into the valley and then some, just doesn't get old.
So I think the plan is to go over to Gadd too
because they just opened that today.
So we're going to see if we can score some soft snow
and then maybe do some circle laps.
I don't know.
It's kind of same old stuff.
So my favorite mountain in the entire solar system.
Oh, is that anticipated Snowbird day?
I guess.
Great.
It looks like it's going to be great coverage.
I think we should go hit something that's recently opened
and find some soft snow.
Want to try it?
Yeah.
Oh, it's soft as though.

We should go over and try to see that tree island.

Just like kind of right.

Okay.

Okay.
See that little cliff there?
See the cliff on the left?
That series of rocks.
How far?
Oh yeah, yeah, yeah.
Oh yeah.
It's like a little suite in there.
Yeah, for sure.
Whoa.
Oh my God.

I almost took a tree out, then I almost took Joe out.

we were going to look at that knob, you know?
Yeah.
What's it looking like over there?
I mean.
Shit.
I mean, it's doable.
It's just kind of what type of ski method do you want?
Yeah, no.
This is like a straight drop.
I'm going to cut over through those tracks to your right
and into that other gully
and maybe come in below it a little bit more.
And I might cut, jump turn, jump turn,
and then in that little gully.
I mean.
Yeah.
Not saying I'm not going to ******* fall,
but I think I can do it.
It's soft.
All right.
I would, I would go the other way.

Very rocky.

See, I don't know if you want to hit in the trees
a little more.
You just got to make your mind up.
Cause if you go too far straight,
you're right in line with the tree down there.
So that's why I jumped harder right and went in between them
or you got to go a little bigger
and go more to the left of that tree.
What about if I, what if, what if you,
you saying what if you cut left in the high
between the little tree and the big bark?
Yeah.
It's just big.
It is?
Yeah.
And there's, there's like three more boulders
are over there.

It's more like a pillow stack.
I mean, we should go down one more.

It does pretty, pretty gnarly from here, doesn't it?

I think, I mean.
Oh, I see.
See what I mean?
I mean, you could.
Yeah.
You just got to be really precise.
Yeah.
No, I don't.
Make a turn and then jump in.
That rock is still sticking up really high there
on the high side.
So I think I might kind of jump
and almost kind of not go into the pit,
but just to the left of the tree.
That's good for you.

I don't want to deal with that tree up above.

Here, they opened GAD 2 today.
Like as we were driving up,
I got the alert from the app.
Feels like we have another mini pow day on,
yeah, when it's not supposed to be a pow day.
And we didn't really get out to like 10 o'clock
and there's still, I mean, it's not like fresh tracks,
but there's still plenty of big soft spots.
And as I feel like I've been saying lately,
just really enjoyable to ski.
And I think the 116 JJ is a great ski for stuff like this
because the 106 I think would be a little too narrow
for me, in my opinion,
and a softer ski like the White Walk or the Kruba Core,
I feel like struggles sometimes in the inconsistent clumps
and the JJ, because it's a heavier, more dense wood,
it just really does a great job
of really pounding through a lot of this.
And so it kind of gives me this bulldozer type ski style,
but still very fun.
Joe, how are the 110s holding up?
They're okay.
I got to get my center a little bit better,
but I like these skis a lot.
They have some rocker in the tip,
but a little more conventional through the rear.
So they work well.
I just need to get my legs moving with the ski
a little better and trust it some more.
And I'm looking for a good afternoon
that we should rip for a bit here.
The conditions are excellent.
I will say that.

Gattu is one of my favorite go-to spots
on this mountain.

STH and the woods in between the lift
are also right up there in the top, my top selection.
So all good.
It's very steep.
Not like the longest shots,
but it's very steep trees.
And the only thing I guess I don't really love about it
is that the run out is kind of wonky.
Like once you ski the face,
you have this sort of kind of be awkwardness run out,
but it's kind of the tail with a lot of lifts.
So anyways, more skiing.
Can we not just go down?
