Hey my friends, welcome back, in today's video we're gonna do this nice little water reflection painting here
So, we grab a set of colors, as you can see here
Seven, all together, and start to mix the colors for the underpainting
And, in case of the sky, I'm, yeah, doing the sky, the clouds here in one sitting
See, I start with the darkest blue color on the top
And get a bit lighter for the next blue color that we pre-mixed here
And then I blend it, more or less
First rough with this hard flat brush here
And then with the ox hair blender brush I, yeah, blend the colors so that we have a nice transition
And then I start to build up the cloud details here
They appear to be white, but again, of course, they are not white
They are far off from white
But in comparison with the blue, the background, it really appears to be white
And another important thing for you is to get away from this principle of thinking that clouds are white
And they appear to be white compared to the colors surrounding them, but they are really far off
You see we have on the palette this titanium white blob here
On the left upper part of the palette
And this is pure white
And the color we use for the clouds basically are very, pretty far off
It's a mixture of titanium white and a bit of lemon, yellow, straw sienna, a bit of a greenish touch to it
Some areas where we blend into this background color
But basically the colors are really not that white from the clouds here
I'm using this flat brush here
It's a bit of a stiffer one
And this really helps to get the color very easy
In a very blended way so that we don't have to
Rework the edges of the white part here
And it's again kind of a
You need to know what tool you have to use for getting in effects very quick
In a very effective way
On the left part we add some smaller cloud details here
Reworking the colors, remixing them, getting a bit more grayish
Get those bluish colors into it
And overall a bit of this greenish tone
I see we have a ton of details but we don't use too small brush
Therefore it's, yeah
Those brushes are really easy, really handy for
Painting those cloud details on a very small scale
The next part we do is the underpainting for the water part
It's done in a very thick way
As you don't have to, yeah
Basically try to really get the white of the canvas covered completely
On the left we have a bit of a more grayish, greenish color
Lighter one
That blends on the right side into the a bit darker one
So we already have some transition from the colors that we need to have
To make this thing look realistic
Of course blending the edges
Just a bit softening down and
Yeah, remix the next set of colors
Grab some fine brushes as you can see and
Yeah, start to build up those wave details
On the now dry surface that we paint on
And the water in this painting here was pretty greenish
As you can see here
Darker greenish tones, more lighter ones
And this bluish color is used for the shadow beneath this
Yeah, wave that breaks on this part here
This lighter bluish color is basically the reflection from the sky
And this is something you need to put in to make it look realistic
Then I grab some smaller round brush and start to build up the foam and the white water
In this area here
It took quite a while to get in those details
I mean, of course in this small painting here
Very small size painting you
Yeah, you need to get a bit overboard with those details
And this is done by using very small brush of course
And I'm also using here the dry brush technique
Reworking areas, getting darker, lighter
Also using the background color from the first layer
To let it shine through the white water part
Yeah, splashing around here
And then I start to build up also again the reflection
These purplish, bluish reflections we have on the wet part of the beach
This grayish, darkish color here
Because we still have a very thin layer of water here
And this also reflects the sky
And so basically I use this darkish, greenish color
To build up those breaking waves
And I'm using not that much of a color
Not that thick
And then I go over this whole thing
While it's still wet
And put on those white reflections that we have here
And they also need to be, at least in parts, kind of blended
Kind of a bit blurry looking
And now put on the reflection parts
The white water foam parts, the front part here
Also of course, a bit blending is involved here
Just to make those edges not too sharp looking
Not too edgy, not too cut out
And I think this is a key part here
That you just need to take the time to put in those very fine dots
I mean, you see my hand is...
Looks huge compared to the size of the painting
And I'm still trying to get in details that are really tiny
And also try to shift around on the reflection part that we have here
That it's not too...
Not everywhere looking completely like titanium white pure
It needs to have some variation to it
And then I'm building up the other breaking wave parts here
And then I start to put in the reflection from the sky
Between those waves that we have here
And this is now the final part
The reflection of the sunlight here
And you see those dots are really extremely tiny
And the more you step to the front
The more they need to be on the top of the wave that we have here
So make sure that you put in those reflections
Really on the upper end of this darker greenish color here
Yeah, we're finished
And don't forget to check out one of these two videos here
