This is the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel.
One of the longest bridge tunnels in the world.
This is 23 miles.
There we see some ocean-going vessel off there on the horizon.
And here we are. We're traveling over the bridge section.
It's not very high off the water.
As we go into the tunnel section, it goes deep
so that large vessels can cross over the tunnel.
So here we're two miles from the tunnel entrance
heading out over the Chesapeake Bay.
Obviously the water at this point is relatively shallow.
Getting into deeper sections soon and actually passing under.
This is actually very early in September.
This is actually coming up on Memorial Day weekend 2021.
This is Thursday.
The tide is 72 degrees.
We actually see the tunnel itself.
There we see the two entrances there to the tunnel.
And obviously that large container ship is heading for that entrance
into the Chesapeake Bay.
Whether it's on its way to Gulf of Newport News
or maybe all the way to home.
This is a nice view of the bridge, tunnel bridge there.
Off on the right, apparently we're coming up a section of the tunnel.
I just reset the trip odometer so we'll see how long this actually is.
Here we kind of get a view of how deep the tunnel actually is as we look there.
Now this section of the tunnel is just a little over one mile, 1.1.
Let's see the trip underneath the section of the Chesapeake Bay.
Here we see another container ship over on the left.
Here we're approaching the second tunnel section
going north on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel.
Here we see a very large container ship.
They're getting ready to come through the tunnel.
You can see that container ship is moving rather quickly.
You can actually see its relative movement there to the bridge.
Here we see a large evergreen container ship passing over the tunnel.
We're very fortunate here to get this view.
Just as we're entering the tunnel, there we see this evergreen ship passing.
Quite a majestic sight.
We'll be able to see which ship that is if we can catch a view of the back of it.
We're passing underneath the tunnel and hopefully we'll get a view of the ship
from the other side.
I'm resetting the trip odometer and we are entering the Chesapeake Channel Tunnel.
Here we see the northern end of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel.
This section of the bridge and suspension section is really not high enough deep
so the ship is small in any size.
It's going to have to go north.
