The southern coast of France is home to some incredible cities and villages
and surrounded by breathtaking limestone cliffs.
With water so blue and clear, no wonder why it's called the Côte d'Azur.
After a few days researching the best places to visit,
I came across a tiny village that sits 1400 feet up on the limestone cliffs
overlooking the Mediterranean Sea.
And today we are headed over there to check it out
and bringing you along for the adventure.
So let's explore as France.
Good morning!
So today we are going to explore a coastal town on the coast of France,
the southern coast of France.
And what better way to start the day than to hit up a French bakery.
So come with us, enjoy the day,
a day in France on the southern coast
and see what life is like and what things are like in France.
Okay, let's be real.
The bakeries in France are absolutely next level.
Each one I go into is filled to the brim with savory snacks
and beautifully designed cakes and pastries.
Honestly, it's always really hard to choose what to get
because literally everything looks amazing.
So what are you gonna get?
Me too.
She understood me.
All right, we are stocked.
Did our trip to the bakery.
Now we're ready to start the day right.
Ready for the road trip.
So poor Vaillant is suffering pretty hard from allergies today.
It's been really windy the past couple days, like really windy.
My eyes are about to pop out.
Yeah.
They're so red and watery.
So yeah, he's struggling pretty hard.
But for whatever reason, I don't really have allergies so I am fine.
But anyways, we're gonna munch on our croissants and pain au chocolat
and start the road and start our adventure.
Delicious.
Okay, I have Jessica sunglasses first so nobody laugh about me.
But that really help for my eyes.
But the croissant is amazing.
The French Riviera, known in French as the Côte d'Azur,
is the Mediterranean coastline of the southeast corner of France.
Côte d'Azur is originally a nickname given by France to the county of Nice
after its annexation in 1860,
because the climate was similar to that of the north of Italy,
even in winter with the sky as blue as the sea.
All right, so we are going to go attempt to get an iced latte,
which is something that's not very common in France.
And parking was an adventure.
Took us a good 30-40 minutes to park.
Finally, we ended up just going, I don't know if you can see behind me,
but down there because they have a parking garage.
Couldn't find any parking on all the streets that we did.
Yeah, and it's 1 euro for 15 minutes,
so we got to kind of like, hurry up, passe vite, right?
Go fast.
All right, coffee time.
Just a side note, it's a weekday and it is not the busy season.
So just think about that.
This is something rare in France.
We got it.
Can you see that the guy that made it was not from France, is why?
Yes.
The guy was really cool.
We are going to get some sunglasses for Vaillant
because it is too sunny because he's a vampire now.
For my Oregon eyes.
Yeah.
Can't really see because of this.
Oh, there's the tag.
Decisions, decisions.
Merci, bonne journée.
I'm good to be on Cannes for the festival.
So we're good, we have the iced coffee, we have the sunglasses
and that was pretty much good for our first stop.
Back to the car, back to the road.
All right, back on the road.
The Côte d'Azur hosts about 13 million tourists every year
and it's really easy to see why.
The water is incredibly beautiful and clear with a deep blue hue
and the area gets around 315 sunny days per year.
In the south of France, there are olive trees everywhere
and they put olives in everything.
Pizza, bread, tapenade, salad, etc.
So we have arrived at the village of Aise
and now begins the super fun part of looking for parking.
So we're about 10 minutes in looking to park somewhere.
All the parking garages, parking lots are full
and all of the parking is full.
So we basically just have to keep going back and forth
and drive around until we find somewhere to park.
Parking in Europe is complicated.
It's challenging for sure.
Yeah, but in the end, we're gonna go up there.
That's where the village is.
Right now, we're just gonna try to find somewhere to park.
As you can see, it's really busy.
All the parking is full and yeah, found some parking
but we are really far.
So one thing you should know if you guys visit Europe,
especially southern France or pretty much the French Riviera
or the Italian Riviera is you're gonna walk a lot.
But check this out.
How amazing is this?
Look at this view.
So we're gonna enjoy the walk to Aise.
We have actually kind of a while to walk
but at least we have a beautiful view.
So make the most out of it, which is all you can do sometimes.
Aise has been described as an eagle's nest because of its location.
Around 1400 feet above sea level on the French Mediterranean coastline.
All right, we made it at the beginning
but now we have to walk all the way up there.
Hopefully, it's not too hard
but the view from up there is gonna be exceptional.
Wait until you see it.
But first, a word from today's sponsor.
E-bikes are becoming more and more popular these days
but if you're looking for an e-bike with a super long range,
they can be hard to find.
The Engwi X26 not only has dual batteries
with a range of up to 93 miles,
it's also foldable.
The triple suspension,
which offers three times more shock absorbance than an average e-bike
and 26 by 4 inch fat tires
make this bike an absolute pleasure to ride.
With the 1200 watt peak motor,
this super e-bike can get up to 31 miles per hour
and the hydraulic brakes stop on a dime.
The Engwi X26 is a high performance e-bike
that combines comfort with durability.
And it's a great bike for taller people
with a weight rating of up to 330 pounds.
I love the range that the dual batteries give you
and the high quality details of the bike
like the rims, leather seat and leather handles.
The ride is so smooth and enjoyable
and the fact that it's foldable
means it's way easier to bring along
without attaching a bike rack to your car.
This e-bike is definitely a super e-bike
and ready to handle any kind of terrain.
Right now, Engwi is having a summer sale
and it's the best time to buy an e-bike
with deals up to $450 off.
So check out the details in the description of this video
for more info.
And don't miss out
because there are some great deals going on.
With summer on the horizon,
your next adventure starts here
with the Engwi X26.
Travel without limitation
wherever the road may take you.
Special thank you to Engwi for sponsoring this video.
Now, let's get back to it.
Eze is a renowned tourist site on the French Riviera
and it's famous worldwide for its views.
The Jardin Botanique d'Eze,
which is where we are heading,
is known for its collection of cacti and succulents
as well as its panoramic views.
And just for reference,
this is where we parked the car.
Eze is known for its well-preserved
medieval buildings and houses,
cobblestone streets,
narrow alleys,
and ancient facades.
Other features include small stone lanes,
vaulted passageways,
restored stone houses,
old fountains,
craft shops,
art galleries,
and two watchtowers.
One thing about the village that I learned the hard way
is how crowded it can get.
This is what it's really like
behind the scenes.
I was definitely not prepared
for how crowded the botanical garden is
and it's not even the busy season yet,
so just imagine what this place is like during summer.
All right, let's see if it's worth it.
The garden was created after World War II
on a chateau's ruins
by town mayor André Gionton and Jean Gosteau
of the Jardin Exantique de Monaco.
Although the garden was really crowded,
its beauty definitely made up for it.
With incredible views
and really unique plant life,
the Botanical Garden of Aize
is about 1,400 feet above sea level
and was built on 12th century defensive walls
that were destroyed in 1706.
It's known for its impressive collection
of cactus and succulents
from the Mediterranean region,
Africa,
and the Americas.
The views are very impressive
and we stopped to admire them
every chance we got.
We could see so far out
across the Mediterranean,
it felt unreal.
Looking out,
you can see Chateau Balsan,
a villa built in 1920
for Colonel Jacques Balsan
and his wife Consuelo Vanderbilt.
You can also see La Tête des Chiens,
which means Head of the Dog,
which is a rock formation
far off in the distance.
These ruins are what is left
from what was destroyed in 1706.
So this is really cool.
The spot is absolutely magical.
The view is incredible.
The plants are really cool and diverse.
The only thing that sucks
is it's really crowded,
but trying to make the best of it.
The Botanical Garden
is like a cliffside labyrinth
with sculptures, art,
and unique plants
in every little crevice.
And with each turn,
there's a completely different view.
Going through the stone arch,
we started to venture
into the backside of the garden.
Each area felt like
a completely different place
with a totally different atmosphere.
This is probably
one of the most beautiful gardens
I've ever been to so far in my life,
and I'm really glad we made the trip
to come here and check it out.
Now, the garden is just
the tip of the iceberg,
and just wait until we start
to explore the village.
The area surrounding Ais
was first populated around 200 BC
as a commune situated near Mount Bastide.
The area was subsequently occupied
by not only the Romans,
but also the Moors,
who held the area
for approximately 80 years
until they were driven out
by William of Provence in 973.
The history of Ais became turbulent
several times in the next few centuries
as French and Turkish troops
seized the village under the orders
from Hayreddin Barbarossa in 1543,
and Louis XIV destroyed the walls
surrounding the city in 1706
in the War of the Spanish Succession.
Finally, in April 1860,
Ais was designated as part of France
by unanimous decision
by the people of Ais.
In the village of Ais,
there are tons of art galleries
and little shops like this one.
This is nougat,
which is a popular treat
in the south of France.
It was absolutely magical
walking around the tiny streets
of this village.
I felt like I was transported
to another time in history.
It was also way less crowded
in the village,
which was a really nice change of pace.
So we left the garden,
we sort of left the village up there,
and now we're gonna take some fast food
to eat for our next part of the journey.
So check it out.
Okay, we finished the super long hike
back to the car,
and now we are heading down
into Monte Carlo.
We are gonna grab maybe a cocktail
and a little something to eat
at one of the kind of resort hotels
that's really on the water.
So should be cool.
Normally, you have a lot of really
luxurious things in Monaco,
a lot of big boats,
a lot of nice cars.
So we'll see what we see.
And take you guys along with us.
So let's roll.
Monaco is a sovereign city state
on the French Riviera,
and Monte Carlo is considered
its unofficial capital.
It's a relatively smaller sized city
with a population of about 34,000 people.
Monaco is among the most popular
holiday destinations
for luxury yacht charters in the world.
Each year, the French Riviera hosts
50% of the world's super yacht fleet,
with 90% of all super yachts
visiting the region's coast
at least once in their lifetime.
Another thing the city is famous for
is the Formula One Grand Prix races.
And we just so happened to visit
as they were setting up the city
for a Formula One electric race.
So it was crazy busy.
One of the most notable buildings
in Monte Carlo is the casino
and the Hotel de Paris,
which we visited almost 10 years ago
on our way to Portofino.
So it was really cool to go back
after all these years and see it again.
Monte Carlo is sort of like
a French version of Las Vegas in a way,
or at least that's what it reminds me of.
We also happened to be in Monte Carlo
during the European poker tour
and our server asked us
if we were in the tournament.
I guess it must have been
the sunglasses or something.
So we enjoyed our drinks and food
at this amazing venue
overlooking the Mediterranean Sea
and talked about our favorite parts of the day.
Absolutely delicious.
Very good drinks.
Very good vibe.
But that's pretty much it for the day.
It was a really cool day.
Thanks you guys for hanging out with us.
Day in France.
And we'll see you in the next video.
Bye!
So after a long day of exploring the Côte d'Azur
and some of the most magical places
I've ever been to,
we did our own version of Formula 1
on the way back.
But not really because they have photo radar
like every 50 feet in France.
