I still remember the first time you
walked into my Dojo I was 14 years old
with an orange belt you looked nervous
when I asked what school you were from
and for some reason you couldn't
remember its name we were paired
together as partners of sorts I was
supposed to show you the ropes even I
found this funny cuz you were older and
stronger than me and it was clear the
arrangement was just to boost my
ego you asked me questions I didn't know
the answers to like how to position your
elbow when you punched and you were
always so pleased when I Shrugged in
response like I lost a point on our
invisible
scoreboard this one girl Sarah tried to
pit me against you she'd pull my hair
and call me Cinderella he's genetically
stronger he'll win by default she'd say
even if you outtrain him you won't stand
a chance and remember the day you
finally beat me I watched you earn your
blue belts while everyone watched me
despite training here longer I was stuck
at Orange with stripes an embarrassment
to Nar Community though I didn't mind
falling behind that night after class I
congratulated you and you smiled proudly
on your way to the car that's when
everyone came to my Aid as if I hit rock
bottom and was permanently scarred Sarah
hugged me and asked if I was fine which
was weird cuz Sarah never hugged me
before even Sensei spoke to me privately
justifying your solo promotion with
backs of your devotion facts I didn't
need to hear cuz I knew you deserve the
belt more than me you were there to push
your limit while I was there to burn
calories it's been 5 years since I left
our Dojo so I have no idea where you are
this fall but I still wonder what school
you were from or if you were real at
