Going to Phillip Island was a special experience. Being away from what I was used to, opened my mind to another perspective of myself.

Feeling foreign and experiencing new changes help shape the person we are today.
I realize growing up in an established society entails some adaptation in the human mind.
Sometimes we get so influenced by our surroundings,
we forget who we are or what our goals once were, or we take our surroundings for granted
and lose the humility and compassion that were once the anchor in our hearts,
but upon venturing the island and observing others' actions, I notice how everyone comes
for a purpose, whether that is going to see the penguins as a tourist with the family,
escaping the city life, or fulfilling a duty of taking care of the wildlife
amongst many other things. This unveiled a new perspective which opened me up to the idea that
everyone is striving to fulfill their roles, enduring setbacks and challenges,
and although we are imperfect individuals with flaws, upon learning and understanding others
and applying what we've learnt to practice, we set ourselves apart.
When viewing the penguins, the hosts mention not to take any photos or videos of the penguins
as a means to protect them, yet on site, there were still many who had,
disrespecting their wishes. Upon seeing this, I felt that as individuals, the importance of
etiquette and respect for others traditionally has been forgotten and buried underneath the
priority of self. Still, having this mentality of judging others in this manner is also unkind.
As I mature and grow, I am continuously rediscovering my compassion within,
and how to express it. Recently, I've been quite harsh in myself, to a point where I realise that
I may hold a bit of resentment towards my being. Perhaps the standards I've put forth for myself
have stolen my qualities of rest and value, or feeling like I'm alone in shouldering
responsibilities, when upon taking a step back, there are actually many who are supporting me.
