Welcome back to day six of the Japan vlogs. On this day we traveled to Nara on a day trip from Kyoto.
It was a packed day starting with a visit to the viral mochi shop Nakatandiro and then we made
our way to Nara park to feed the deers some biscuits. After that we unexpectedly stumbled
upon Okumura commemorative museum while we were looking for lunch. With our bellies filled we took
a stroll around Todaiji temple. We wrapped up our day in Nara splurging our money at the local arcade
shop and lastly we ended our day in Kyoto eating some delicious food for dinner. Early in the
morning I stopped by a local bakery shop next to the train station to grab some breakfast
while the others went to 7-eleven to get their food. We made our way to Kyoto station and after
a quick hour train ride we arrived in Nara. We were greeted by a cute and lovely deer statue
in Nara station. Before leaving the station we stumbled upon an umikuji where the fortunes
showcases different special characteristics of Nara.
23. Did you take this too? Oh I just took out the top one. It's an air pocket in there.
Are they all the same? No yours is different. Oh okay. It may take time but the results will
be favorable. Enjoy sake tasting at a historic brewery for an unforgettable trip. As sake is
brewed earnestly so must you polish yourself. Yeah you guys should do one. Okay go Ian.
Shake it and then turn it upside down. Cooking no ha sushi will bring you good luck.
Being honest with yourself is key to good fortune. Getting a taste of kaki no ha sushi
handed down over 150 years of tradition is sure to ease the fatigue of your journey.
Have a taste of meticulously wrapped local delicacies representative of Nara. That's a good
Armika.
Then shake. 17. Oh today's the day. It's alright to stumble on occasion. The important thing is
keeping yourself back up again and affection and care will bring you. Buy some deer crackers today
and feed them. Ready to see some deer. We are Nara today for a day trip coming from Kyoto.
First thing we are gonna go to a the mochi pounding or baking shop right and uh I think
after that we're gonna explore Nara park and feed some deers and IG for a little. On our way to the
mochi shop we shopped for sunscreen and umbrellas at the local convenience store. After a quick 10-15
minute walk we finally arrived at the viral mochi shop Naka Tanido. This was definitely one of the
most popular attractions in Nara with a long line at 9 a.m in the morning already.
Any except for the girl. There's none of the girl. It's the same girl. It's the same girl.
Where's Luffy? Luffy's right here. Where's his hat? Okay let's see give me a sec. Let me put my
change away real quick. Okay let's see. Oh okay. Who'd you get? He is I think Beckman.
Mr. Beckman. That's him. Oh nice. I think that's one of the better ones. Yeah. Better than this dude.
Nice. Good. My first gachapon.
Okay. Okay. Right when we found a suitable spot to enjoy our mochi the mochi store started their
regular show where they pound their mochi. This drew a big crowd of tourists including us
and it was absolutely stunning to watch the speed and precision they need to pound the mochi.
After enjoying our delicious mochi snack we slowly made our way to Nara Park.
On the way we bought some souvenirs and walked through the local shrine Kofukuji Temple. So we
just finished watching some mochi pounding and now we're walking our way to Nara Park.
They'll follow you. Oh you gave him one anyway. There's one behind you.
He's coming. He's got antlers. He bowed. He bowed. Good. He bowed. He bowed too.
Yeah you gotta subscribe. Subscribe. Like and subscribe.
I don't have any more. You gotta walk away. You gotta walk away.
Oh now you have two followers. Uh-oh. Uh-oh you have more followers. You have three followers.
Oh this one's chasing. How was your first Nara or second Nara deer feeding experience?
I was gonna give some back to Joey but the
those like three deer started following me and they bit my clothes so I just like threw them
at them. Now we're getting some more to start over.
Oh this dude's ready. This dude's ready. Joey he did it. Watch out Joey. That one's gonna bite you.
Which one? Which one? Oh this one. Oh I did not see that one.
They want biscuits.
Step on mommy.
Oh this one's biting me. Okay.
They're smart. Yeah. They're like oh this guy ain't got none. Look at all this.
Yeah.
After spending some quality time with the lovely deer we explored a nearby shrine. While we were
looking for lunch we stumbled upon Okumura commemorative museum and we took a quick
rest break inside. This was an interesting experience where we got to learn about
the unique seismic isolation system incorporated into some modern architectures and building.
I also got to experience different magnitudes of earthquake from their chair simulator.
This building doesn't. I see.
So all the new modern building all have seismic isolation.
I see. Yeah they have this in San Diego too. Like for all. This is the cut model and the smaller
model. Okay. And this is the black line is the natural rubber and this is the stainless steel
and lamination. I see. Like this. Oh. And the actual earthquake is
this way. And this is one kind of the slider. Okay.
This is like this. Oh. One kind of slider.
And this Okumura corporation building has the seismic isolation system. This building? Yes. Oh
you can see. Oh.
Oh wow.
Yeah. Oh very cool. That is very cool. Wow.
Dude. He has good. Nice. Oh this is cool.
After a scrumptious soba lunch we made our way a few stores down the block to enjoy some dessert.
At the dessert shop I was also curious what the burgers taste like in Japan so I had a second
meal. Oh these are not the fluffy pancakes but they do look pretty good though. Get it?
It's warm. I wonder if I should eat it or wait for Mika to finish. You should get a taste there.
I don't know how much time it needs to take. I'll taste the chocolate sauce.
But also she said she couldn't eat it all so if you ate half of it I think you'd be happy.
Arigato gozaimasu.
With our hunger satiated we made our way to Todaiji temple.
We explored the incredible architecture as well as the calming gardens and scenery.
What are you doing? I'm sorting the. Oh nice. Where are we right now? Todaiji.
Do you want to talk about it? Yeah. Okay. We saw the deer. Uh-huh. They're pretty aggressive when
you don't give them the senbei. Yes. They're like give me the biscuit. Yep. We're in front of
Todaiji. We're about to enter. Uh we did lose Mika and Ian so I don't know. They're here now.
Oh wow we somehow. We had a two-hour food break. Yes we had a two-hour food break.
I bowed at the deer. Did it bow back? No. But it bowed back to Ian though.
Oh yeah Joey got slaw roll. Yes. And Ian's butt. We still have mochi. It chomped on Ian's butt.
It'll be fine. It'll still taste good. Like I got rid of all my truffles. I need to throw
away some more. Is this combustible? Who knows. I mean the cardboard is. Maybe just like go like this
and toss it. Okay. We gotta pay again. Oh we have to pay for entrance again. I think so.
Anyways we'll figure it out and we'll go inside. You don't want to go. It's okay. I've been here
before. Okay update. We decided to not go in because it was not free and it was a whole thousand
yen. So uh. $7.50 a person. Yeah I agree. So it was not not the most uh economical choice today.
So we're just gonna walk around and uh explore Nara Park. How you got through the fence.
Oh yeah I shot a couple pictures uh in between some spots to make it seem like I was there
but it was okay. I don't think I missed out too much. Yeah zoom zoom lens.
On our way back to the station we stopped by the arcade and had an incredible time playing
the different crane games. But we were slightly disappointed that we were unsuccessful in winning
anything. What color do you want? Pink. I want pink. Blue, green.
Basically I want them in the order they were behind. Oh my gosh it's yellow. Oh my gosh I
told you it was yellow. Oh my gosh you guessed right. Yeah. Oh let me see. You gotta get the
black one from the mesh before we leave. Yeah. We should stop by that other building.
Do you think Happy will wear this? I'll try to make her wear it. Just for the grand. Then you
can take it off. Then I'll inherit it from my future kid. Okay. This would be so cute. She
would get, she would go viral. Huh? She would go viral. Yeah. The Instagram. Try again. Yeah try again.
Okay let me try two more times and if I don't get it then. Okay it's for the vlog. Yeah I
think you tap once. Some of them you tap again so it like it clenches again.
Oh she's hooked now. She's hooked. Okay I know you're hooked. I know you're hooked now.
Okay. Okay. Too fast. Too fast. Okay. Okay. I wasted 200 right there. Are you sure? Yeah.
Should we be greedy and try to get two? Yeah. Yeah go for it. I gotta try one more. I gotta
try one more. Okay. Okay one more. Last one. This is my last coin. Dang. It's a machine. Oh well.
You only get one try. So I have three tries. Yes.
Yeah. You gotta be like very precise. There you go. One more try. One more try. Yes.
Okay what else do you want to keep doing? Also barely. I'm gonna let you go. We're addicted.
Okay from this to you. Oh my. Do you want to keep this? I'm very close. I'm very close.
I feel like I'm very close. I'm sucking up all my money and I like it. It's good.
Entertaining but it's so funny. Yep time to go home.
What are you gonna do to him? There's no joke. Ready? Let me see what they look like.
It's okay. That's why I liked it.
After the photo booth, that wraps up our day in Nara.
We took a train and made our way back to Kyoto and look for some dinner there.
Give us an update of what what we're going through now. We're in a fancy restaurant.
We're in a fancy restaurant. And we just ordered a lot of food. Yes. We were walking around the
streets for like I want to say 30-40 minutes. Yeah trying to find dinner. Yeah. Everywhere
was full and they won't let us wait. Yeah the wild thing is even if you want to wait they
they're like no you can't wait you got to go somewhere else. Like four tables. Yeah.
Yeah. Unfortunately we have finally found one. We found this spot. Yes. Very excited. Yes. Fancy.
It is very fancy. At least for American standard. For American standard.
It's probably pretty expensive for Japanese standard. Yeah.
